Ah jeez memories thanks ray. Spent the last two years in and out of that during winter though so nice with some sun lol. Didn't even know that rv park was there neither did the gf who lived there for like 15 years. You are in Willingdon now but if you get a chance hire a boat to savory island white sand beaches and also go into the tourist information in town and ask them about hiking trails etc. They are a wealth of knowledge and there is trail's everywhere including the sunshine coast trail. Powell River is still kinda a hidden gem.
I remember a small building near the top of the wharf that had the exterior walls covered with shingles in a pattern that gave an illusion not unlike 3D. And yes, Highway 101 goes a long way South from here.
The Sunshine Coast is one of my favourite areas on the West coast. It offers great hiking, biking, kayaking and spectacular scenery. Have stayed at Sunland also and was a great spot to stay to visit Lund. There are a number of provincial campgrounds but another of my favourites was in Powell River. It was along the water and great trails for hiking. The area is definitely a “must” visit area.
The other end of 101 is San Diego CA / Mexican border. The municipal Campground in Powell River is nice, but my favorite hangout is Texada Island. Texada campground is on the SW coast 1/2 way down the island. You won't be disappointed
The signs I read said the other end of the highway is in Chile. :) Yes, that's a nice campground, we day tripped over to Texada a few years ago to check it out called Shelter Point Regional Park. First come first serve though so kind of dicey to take a big trailer over on the ferry and maybe not get a campsite. There weren't that many large campsites if I recall. Cheers, Ray
Looks like a nice place. Hope they fix the electric. My surge protector would be constantly tripping. You mentioned Kayaking thru some of the waters; was Ann' wanting her boat? As a long time boater, not sure I'd trust the little outboard to get me out of trouble against the current or tide...
We didn't kayak ourselves, just mentioned it was a popular activity. :) Lund is basically the end of the road closest to the marina areas kayakers want to explore and camp. Lund has many parking areas for vehicles and also tour companies operating. In the summer season the waters are pretty calm and protected due to all the islands.
We've been to Lund and Desolation Sound many times in our boat over the years. Usually Lund is an overnight stop only. Guess we need to take an RV trip now since we've aged out of boat cruising (both in our 80s). We have an Arctic Fox 27-5L and a short bed F350 (about 46' overall).
The campground looked very nice but what grabbed me was the water access and the marina area. I love that whole scene!! I was raised near the ocean in So. Cal. and that vibe just speaks to my heart. I wish your country would lift the vaccine restriction so I could come up there and enjoy some of Canada that I visited as a kid and be able to visit new places like Lund. Thanks Ray.
"Canada will drop its Covid-19 vaccine requirement for visitors entering the country starting October 1, officials announced Monday, reopening the Canadian border to unvaccinated travelers for the first time since the worldwide coronavirus vaccination campaign began.: :) www.forbes.com/sites/brianbushard/2022/09/26/canada-lifts-covid-vaccine-mandate-for-international-travelers/?sh=65d07bae6576
Just got out of RV school, starting to set things up. Pretty hot down here in San Antonio, Texas. Do you know of any areas in British Columbia, Washington or Oregon that are short on mobile technicians? Thanks
I have a 38 foot Class A and wondering if it would work taking it on the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria and then Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay. Is there any problem getting such a long motorhome on and off?
We wait until around the first week of November. :) Exchange rate doesn't bother us much since most items are cheaper in the US, so I find it works out in the wash. Cheers, Ray
I haven't tried it yet but latest information says yes but only for two months. It will also be an extra $30 CAD a month to add portability feature to my residential Starlink or use an RV plan which is still about the same price. Here is what's on the Starlink support page FAQ: What are the limitations on portability? Best Effort Service: Portability is provided on a best effort basis. Stated speeds and uninterrupted use of services are not guaranteed. Starlink prioritizes network resources for users at their registered service address. When you bring your Starlink to a new location, this prioritization may result in degraded service, particularly at times of peak usage or network congestion. Service degradation will be most extreme in "Low Capacity" areas on the Starlink Coverage Map during peak hours. See Starlink Specification here. International Travel: Starlink can only be used within the same continent as the registered Service Address. If you use Starlink in a foreign country for more than two months, you will be required to move your registered service address to your new location or purchase an additional Starlink to maintain service. No In-Motion Use: We do not support Starlink use in motion at this time. Using the Starlink Kit in motion will void the limited warranty of your Kit. While our teams are actively working to make it possible to use Starlink on moving vehicles, Starlink is not yet configured to be safely used in this way.
@@LoveYourRV last time I heard Canada the US and Mexico are in the same continent. I wish there was a number phone you could call. It seems the only get a hold of them is once you have an account.
Being Canadian I found i couldn't use my starlink in the US. They did not allow transborder use. If you pay extra for roaming it will work.. but there is a caveat. If the "area" where you set up is busy then your bandwidth drops. In other words there is no guarantee of bandwidth when roaming unless you pay for the professional package. I found i did not have that great of success in densely wooded areas. Prairie's worked flawlessly. You had to pick and open area to work properly. I elected to use a T-Mobile hot spot which gave me 5g and 100 gb of bandwidth for 50 dollars. Not often was i without internet. T-mobile worked in Canada with 3g speeds.
