This video includes footage from an early September 2022 ferry voyage from Vancouver Island to the Sunshine Coast. Included are dashcam videos of boarding and unboarding and some spectacular ocean and mountain views from the ferry sundeck.
Of interest to RVers, our rig, including truck and fifth wheel trailer, is 45 feet long. We were charged around 200 Canadian dollars, including taxes and reservation fees. The clearance on the ferry was over 15 feet. Driving on and off was a breeze. Crossing time was about an hour and one half.

I’ve been on that ferry when it was on Pender and my favourite thing is to lie down on the outside deck and relax on a hot sunnny day

We made the same crossing in Sept. 4th, 2001. But we turned to the right after getting off of the ferry and headed toward Vancouver. It seems like about a half mile or so after turning right there is a beautiful RV park where we stayed for a couple of days. We were in our one ton 4x4 van pulling our 33 foot Wilderness conventional travel trailer. We crossed the International border south of Vancouver two days before 911.

Nice video, thanks! Hoping to get to that area one day along with Quadra Island, we typically stick to Vancouver Island. BTW, I "helped" name that ferry along with the Salish Eagle and Salish Raven ferries :-) Back in 2015 BC Ferries held a naming contest and I was one of several people that suggested those names. Got a nice runners-up package with a plaque and several passes, nice of them to do that.

I was surprised to see this video in my recommendations considering i NEVER see anything to do with my town or the surrounding area on YT without specifically looking for it, the sailing between comox and powell river is awesome for views and its not unusual to spot white sided dolphins biggs orcas, southern resident orcas, grey whales and humpback whales while on that ship! I'm pretty surprised at how few vehicles were on your sailing as thats a pretty busy route normally XD my favourite part of that ride has always been passing by texada, powell river also looks really pretty if your coming into Westview terminal during sunset

Ferry rides are such a nice diversion when your travelling. When I was a kid, we crossed the Saint John river on cable ferries. New Brunswick was one of the first modern users of such and was built by an NBer. Prior to the Confederation Bridge taking a ferry to PEI was fun over that 9-mile stretch. I was surprised at one crossing to find VLTs. This was when they were first introduced and I remember seeing them in fast-food restaurants and corner stores. That didn't last long. I do know that residents tire of ferries, long lineups in the summer and the extra cost. My friend once coming back from Halifax to Charlottetown had an hour crossing extend to 10 hours in the winter due to ice. He was supposed to arrive home in the evening instead he lost an entire night's sleep. The bridge was a blessing but also culturally changed the Island forever. That is the first time I have ever heard radar being so strong that it was picked up by a recording device. This is probably a case of your noggin acting as an antenna. Probably time to break out the tinfoil hat!😙🙃😉

We tool the ferry to Port Aux Basque NFLD in 2011 and a storm whipped up 5 hour crossing ended up being 10 hours because it was too windy to enter the harbor. PEI still has a ferry I remember crossing the bridge going to PEI but took a ferry back across to Nova Scotia. I think its my external mic that picked up the radar blip. It also picks up a buzz if I get close to some antennas like my wireless backup cameras. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV They still run a ferry from NS to PEI. At the time I understood it shut down during the winter months because they had no Ice breaker capability. Not sure about now. Never been to the ROCK as I had no interest. I hear the National Parks are amazing. That trip to Port aux Bas has some pretty big water to cross so I understand trip time is variable. The ferries on the Saint John River were cable ferries engineered by a local. (bad autocorrect). I have been to van. Island twice in my life and enjoyed my trip to Victoria and Long Beach Nat. Pk (just before the commonwealth games). If I met some one from the Van. Island I would always ask they how Howie Meeker was RIP. I understand your love of the Island. I always preferred the Oly Nat. Park and Astoria Ore way, not that its any cheaper.

Spectacular scenery and great crossing. So peaceful. Canada is on my bucket list though I'm not sure we'll ever make it to the West Coast; however, would love to experience traveling and maybe camping up the East Coast. Thank you for sharing your travels with us. (I also love the interaction between you and Anne!)

Was just over to Powell River back in May. Didn't make it up to Lund, a little too far to go on the bicycle! The sunshine coast is great, people are friendly and great scenery to boot. Highly recommended trip.

THanks. Like #301. Does Anne still have her boat? Why wouldn't you just boat over for a few days?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Год назад
No she sold it last summer when boat prices were crazy high due to supply chain and Covid. Got as much for it as she paid for it brand new back in 2006. :) She is looking at getting a bigger boat next spring. Sell high buy low! We also wanted to stay for a while, we were over there for 5 weeks.

Hi Ray and Ann! We will be at our lot in Okeover on Friday. My husband and I have followed you for a few years, we enjoy your videos. If you are available this weekend, we would like to say hi. You can come to us or we can come to you or meet at the bar in Lund. Suzanne and Peter

Sure, we are at Sunlund RV Park if you want to drop by the sometime. We are avoiding inside bars and restaurants right now as Anne is still on some drugs for her autoimmune disease and doesn't want to risk catching any flus or colds, etc. But maybe we could sit outside at one of them in the harbour or just hang at the campsite. Cheers, Ray

Hi Ray and Ann we aren't going to be able to come over to say hi. Maybe we will see you in Arizona over the winter. We are planning to take the ferry out of Victoria with our F250 extended cab and our 22 foot Springdale. Do you have any issues getting on & off the ferry to Port Angeles?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Год назад
@@suzannebornestig4163 No problem. :) The ferry trip is quite easy for pretty well any size RV. Big semi-truck trailers use it. The boarding staff is very good at guiding and loading you and off as there is a corner at one end since the boat unloads on a side door in Victoria. Here is a post and some videos www.loveyourrv.com/black-ball-line-mv-coho-ferry-trip/
