Welcome to BARROW, ALASKA - the Northernmost town in America!!! It's pretty wild to be up here, especially in the middle of winter when it's completely dark outside for 30 straight days. I came up here to Barrow to learn about the indigenous Iñupiat culture (which is fascinating!) as well as see how they are spending their lives in such extreme isolation - living alongside polar bears and walruses!
If you have any questions about life in Barrow or Alaska in general, please let me know in the comments down below! Also, if you want to visit Barrow, then contact Ace's tour company called "Arctic Hummer Adventures" by emailing him at arctichummeradventures@gmail.com, and he'll take care of you!

I'm from Saskatoon Saskatchewan, and I drive truck every night for work! I see the northern lights often, especially in the winter. Our provinces slogan is Land of the Living Skies, and it couldn't be more true. The further north you go, the better they get, but they are everywhere. There's nothing like being out on the road all alone in the middle of nowhere at 2am, watching the lights dance across the sky through your windshield.

@@jilcha1036 Fun fact, the US government pays every resident of alaska ~$9,000 a year *just* to live in alaska. Not that people don’t work, but even someone unemployed for a year would still have at least the alaska stipend. Its cuz alaska is very valuable so the US wants to further incentivize people to live there (maybe they wouldn’t otherwise, too cold)

I feel that this privileged white man who can afford to play 'explorer' for his own profit online is very undeserving of your kind words. His ignorance and entitlement are quite repulsive and very indicative of Murica. He immediately asked indigenous people if they are 'proud americans' and when the response wasn't an enthusiastic yes, he went on to remind them that they indulge in 'the economic benefits of being part of the US'-otherwise they would starve. He also went for 'subtly' creating manufactured tension through pitting them against people who have access to plant based/vegan products by manipulatively asking about the killing of whales. His excitement around guns is also telling. This lazy account of him doing nothing but exploiting clickbait titles while traveling first class and promoting credit cards for sponsorship is just further funding his lifestyle which couldn't be further from a cultural documentary. It's just a lazy white guy having fun for himself with other people's money while pretending he is doing some public service.

As someone from Northern Canada, also in a smaller community, I compeltely agree with a lot of what these folks are saying about loving to live there. The temperatures and lifestyle are similar. (they are much more remote than I). I love being able to store stuff outside in the winter. It's currenlty -17c here and snowing (which is warm for February). It's not uncommon to see -40c plus a windchill. It's peacful and beautiful. The gentleman that spoke about not moving for a billion dollars, coudn't agree more. There's a place for everyone. These folks seem so kind and joyful, and honestly remind me so much of our locals. I'd love to visit Alaska. (But we get Amazon is 3 days to a week lol)

Hey Drew, brand new subscriber here, your channel is incredible, I am hooked. I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights during a trip to Iceland - one of the most incredible sights I have encountered during my travels (and I've travelled extensively, 42 out of the 50 US states, Asia, Australia, New Zealand....and many many more) keep up your incredible work. Best wishes from here in Liverpool, England (if you come to Liverpool, I'll give you the full tour!!) 😃😃😃

I grew up in North Dakota, we saw the Northern Lights often, especially in winter. They are beautiful and we thought they were no big deal, but enjoyable to see. I now live in Minneapolis, and on rare occasions one can see the Northern Lights here if you can get away from the city lights. The farther north one goes from Minneapolis, the more frequent they are.

You know, it is definetly a huge culture shock seeing those people in this frozen city living in a totally different way than I do here in Brazil. This video even made me want to go to Barrow just to have this unique experience. If you ever want to visit southern Brazil, remember that I can have you here at my house for a few days :)

Hi Drew! Watching from Slovakia! I'm an American living with my husband and daughter in the valley between the Low and High Tatra mountains (soothingly beautiful, worth coming) and I love this video because I flew to Barrow for a weekend from Fairbanks while I was working for a summer in Denali National Park. It was August, but it was still about 30 degrees F. I did a polar plunge (the water was 28 degrees F, low but not frozen due to the salt content.) I loved my time there, especially seeing the traditional dancing. Great destination for winter solstice.
