They say, when you are in Dharwad, you have to visit L.E.A. Canteen, for its light as air tuppada avalakki, spicy, sweet and tangy masala khaara and a rustic jolada vada in addition to other snacky tiffin that have made this 73-year-old institution a favourite with locals and travellers alike. California is more diverse than Karnataka..Northern part of the state has Oregon influence while Southern part has lots of Mexican culture!!

Wow!!..Such a feeling of nostalgia seeing this video.I grew up in the City of Dharwad before moving to the US 🇺🇸 10 years back.This video bought back fond memories of my childhood.I feel like visiting this place again whenever I visit Bangalore. How beautiful! How nostalgic! I'm from Dharwad, settled in the US for the last 25 years. Every time I visit home, I've to taste all these delicacies! My kids, born and raised in the US are big fans of churumuri, special putani chutney, ballolli khara, jolada wadi (healthy puri bread ) and of course the mirchi! The taste somehow can not be replicated in other parts of the world!

Yet another of those Gems with all the now well recognized ingredients in his own menu ( standardized introduction, camaraderie with other customers, his sweet sounding Kannada heard throughout , eloquent english usage, going to the roots of each dish, generous sprinkling of humor etc) now being produced by Mr Kripal on an industrial scale Hard to chose the numero uno amongst his episodes but this dharwad one is soooo super and could well be the top one

Whenever sm1 would say South Indian breakfast, ppl would mostly say only Dosa & idli but your episodes are helping whole of country to know that within our Karnataka we have so many varieties. In Kalburgi, Bidar, Bijapur side they call it Susla (Mandakki) but I am surprised to know they call it same in Dharwad too. 😛

Why just North Karnataka say entire state...Small local businesses are all the same as they're spread across towns and don't get so much attention like they do in big cities of Bangalore, Mysore ,Hubli-Dharwad, Mangalore etc!!

Wow. I was actually wondering that seeing your Hubli's food tour whether you will go to Dharwad or not. Thanks a lot sir for sharing this experience, it really reminds me my bachelor's life in Dharwad. LEA canteen was on of the spot , and especially Sweet Avalakki, Mirchi Bhajji and Bread Toast are out of world. Also Mishra/Thakur Peda is unique in its own, if got a chance please try that. There is one unique shop in the old market where they serve big puri with korma , it is of the tastiest puri I ever had. Even though I am from North, but I found Dharwad One of the best place to live , study, enjoy and retire in India. Thanks again for sharing this experience.

Excellent attempt of bringing in these new snacks our north Karnataka snacks has not been marketed that grand like other snacks , they have so much of culinary spread and your introduction to these eateries will certainly have impact in all food lovers those travel through these places… you should do a food festival in one city where we should bring all culinary that you feel that are really good say like our Mysore Dasara event this will help the vendors and also food lovers!!
