You're so blessed to have visited Bole Medhanialem. By even stepping foot in the Church you get the blessings and peace from the incense, the mezmur (hymns), the chanting of the clergy. There is nothing as beautiful as the Orthodox Church. Medhanialem means "Saviour of the World". Our Savior, Medhanialem is what protects Ethiopia despite everything happening in the country. Thank you for sharing your experience I hope you get a chance to visit again. Please keep these vlogs coming

When I was younger, this church used to be in a tiny little hut. But when they made the decision to construct the present church, my friends and I tore down the old one. I even kept a piece of the old church as a memento, which I still have to this day.

The word Medhanialem is translated to the savior of the world as we can read from bible John <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="282">4:42</a> “…They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

Very nice vlog. I hope you're having a great time in Addis Abeba. I grew up a stone strow away from Medhanialem, which means the saviour of the world. By the way the go around the church 3 times, in the name of the father, son and holy spirit. More and more of us need to visit each others nation and learn and appreciate our cultures in Africa. We travel to places at times where we don't feel welcome but in africa, we're the kings and queens so we should spend our $$$ where we should

Waaw, you attend orthodox prayer ceremony & you took out your shoes to enter to the Church! that's great. I, personally, couldn't remove my shoes (because I don't like to do) to enter a Church & that became un ,,,,,, to me to attend Orthodoxy Church ceremony; hope Prist remove this old Custom!

I hope you understand everything about orthodox is old and unchanged with in a spiritual reason. the priests are not gonna "remove this old custom" because every orthodox Christian loves it and see it as a way of showing humility and respect in front of God and in his house. Ethiopians take out their shoes when they enter their homes. imagine saying god's home is unworthy of that. be mindful of what you say about other peoples traditions.

There is no way the law that has been thousands of years will be removed by any priest. It's a dogma, comes from the bible quote ' this place is holly take of your shoes'. Says at every entrance of every church. Its important to be respectful and be understanding if anybody is visiting any holly place. You are in their territory. To make it simple wore a sandals next time.
