Saturday morning I found that my homemade pallet porch had survived a rain storm over night with not a drop of water on the porch.
I went down to the creek for some drinking water. I take gallon jugs to get creek water for drinking. I used to get water from my landlady's house but it has been contaminated and is not drinkable anymore.
Some people drink straight out of this creek but I filter it with my Berkey water filter made using an empty pretzel jar and a sun tea jar.
In the early afternoon a guest, Joe and his family came over to help out on the property for the day.
Joe is a carpenter and helped me shore up the new porch a bit and framed the door for my porch entrance. He then made a door using 1x2 boards and scrap lumber. Now all I have to do is hang it on hinges.
The boys hauled wood for me and cleaned up around the place some while Joe's mother made a nice lunch for everyone and generally helped out with the work.
I worked on my barrel stove kit and have it nearly finished now. I need some stove cement so I can get a perfect and tight seal around the metal parts before I can use it for heating my RV.
It was a good day working at the off grid homestead.
I will soon have my RV solar heating porch closed in with plastic and then I will have free heat when the sun shines. I will also soon have my small barrel stove kit finished and be heating my RV with the wood stove.
Thank you Joe and the gang for a great day and good help.
