Minor correction. In eukaryotes, the formation of deoxyribonucleotides from ribonucleotides is catalyzed by an iron containing enzyme, and not vitamin b12. Some organisms do catalyze this reaction with the help of vitamin b12, just not Eukaryotes.

Hello , you are missed two cobalamins, Methylcobalamin Adenosylcobalamin. Cyanocobalamin is the cheapest b12 to manufacture (chemically made , contains cyanide and aluminum as a preservative ) and has to convert in the body into Methylcobalamin. I'm not trying to undermine you just passing on information ,all the best .

Foods that contain Propionibacterium are a natural way to get B12. For example, fermented coconut kefir. Or you can use probiotics with Propionibacterium.
@fbbWaddell
@fbbWaddell Год назад
Just going to point this out and you all can do with it what you want. If you look up vegan sources of B12 on the NIH website you will find articles explaining actual plants old plant and mushroom sources of B12. There are 3 types of mushrooms and 3 types of seaweed that contain enough B12 to be sufficient for a vegan diet to prevent deficiency. There are also several other plant sources of B12 that do not contain a sufficient amount of B12. I would also like to point out that B12 is not produced by animals but by bacteria and that the animals that you are eating that have B12 were either given B12 supplements with their feed or they are ruminates and ruminates have bacteria in one Of their stomachs that produce B12. There are also bacteria in healthy soil that produced B12 and you can actually absorb it through your scan by digging in the soil. This will not produce enough to prevent B12 deficiency but it is a way to get B12.

LOVE this video - do you do consults or chat with people at all? So many alarms went off for me watching this - my daughter has severe POTS/Dysautonomia and then went on to develop nerve pain all over her her body. She was bedbound at 6 yrs of age for a year then at 7 was when the nerve pain kicked in - shecouldn't stand up her feet wereso sore shecouldn't put clothing on she just laid there crying. Doctors wouldn't help and blamed ME! I flew her to Canada where I'mfrom and got her B12 shots and after 3 shots the pain was gone! Now, 2.5 yrs later, I'mstill trying to get tests to evidence the B12 issue and seeif we can ever heal the POTS. I think we did have a fish tapeworm from eating sushi - we took a lot of albendazol to get rid of a parasite and pinworms about a year before she became bedbound (she was symptomatic from birth tho so not sure). I also have a B12 issue and I breastfed her so maybe it was that? Trying to figure this out without any knowledgeable doctors is so hard but FINALLY we are getting the amino acids plasma and organic acids urine panels and MMA serum...so maybe an answer but what if they are "normal"???

Interesting. I am having a little problem with the conservation of mass here, though. What is the definition of "essential"? Is it something that "your body can not make" or something that "you absolutely need"? These are two different concepts that I see often sold as if they coincided.

Question: if liver is recommended for B-12 deficiency because of a vegan diet, how do the animals, who are basically vegan by nature, produce the B-12 in their liver? Shouldn't these animals be deficient by definition, as well?
@kennythelenny6819
@kennythelenny6819 Год назад
They have bacteria in their stomachs that synthesize the b12. The animals must eat grass that is rich in cobalt to supply these microorganisms the necessary ingeredient to synthesize b12.

You can’t be allergic to b12. If you take cyanocobalamine supplements you might react to the cyanide molecule in it or you suffer from histamine intolerance. B12 supplements raise blood histamine. I’m almost positive that you aren’t reacting to cobalamine/b12

Hey Medicosis I have a question: does B12 deficiency cause hyperammonemia? I know it causes a buildup up Methylmalonyl Coa, does it also cause a buildup of Propionic Acid as well? Because if so, why doesnt it present with symptoms of malignant organic acidemia and Hyperammonemia like Methylmalonic Acidemia and Propionic Acidemia? I would expect Ketoacidosis, Metabolic Acidosis, Hypoglycemia, Hyperammonemia as well as severe hyperventilation as respiratory compensation in addition to the other B12 symptoms. Also, since Succinyl CoA is also necessary for Heme synthesis, wouldn't a lack of B12 decrease production of Succinyl CoA from the Organic Acid pathway, thus leading to decreased heme synthesis and also exacerbate anemia this way as well?

Oh no!! So disappointed!! I really thought you would be aware of active and inactive B12. Total serum B12 is NOT an indicator of whether someone is B12 deficient. Active B12 may be only a tiny percentage of total serum B12. That's what the problem is, with diagnosis of pernicious anaemia! the NHS tests ONLY total B12 so it never identifies genuine B12 deficiency (lack of bioavailable B12). B12 in your blood is no good unless it's available to your tissues. Get private testing guys - through Medichecks active B12 testing. Apart from that ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL point it was a really good presentation, thanks.

hello doctor, i have a question about reticulocytes, i know that reticulocyte is immature RBC and it will increase due to hemolysis and bleeding but some website its written that b12 deficiency anemia is megaloblastic anemia and that reticulocytes will be elevated. ( Additionally, the reticulocyte maturation parameters performed on the peripheral blood may also be helpful to differentiate megaloblastic from nonmegaloblastic causes of the macrocytosis. An elevated reticulocyte maturation value is more suggestive of a megaloblastic rather than a non-megaloblastic anemia). im confusing now.

I take a B multicomplex where the Daily dose of B12 Is 150%. In your opinion, it could be enough? I Will go to test B12 again soon Just in case. Sorry for possible bad english. Again, top videos, suscribed.
@colinthomson5358

Your body can store loads of B12. I think it can take several years to deplete like 3 maybe more. So, having a good b12 score a year into the diet could just mean you are tapping into your stores. However, the fact you are taking the supplement should stop you from being deficient. I don't know how good they are compared to food. Do you know what type of b12 it is? Maybe getting a b12 injection twice a year if you can afford it would be a good idea. If you are morally against eating cows or chickens what about things like muscles and clams? Adding them to a meal once a week or fortnight would be a good idea if you are ok with that. You'd still be vegan 95% of the time.

I study veterinary medicine and i know that B12 is supplemented so most of the factory farm animals, who do not have contact with soil or grass (even ruminants who have B12 creating super power due to their crazy intestinal system ;-) I also found papers where the Vitamin B12 deficiency is linked to hygienic circumstances and different Weather-conditions (soil in Australia without enough cobalamin leads to white liver disease in sheep, which is linked to B12 deficiency) My hypothetical (!!!) Question is, could a human get B12 of soil and contamination just as non human animals do, or is this not possible, am I missing something? I even found a paper where the authors treated B12 deficiency with something called Koprophagie, the explanation why this worked was that even humans have vitamin b 12 producing cells in their body but it is not possible to resorb it where it is produced in the jejunum. It would be so great if you could help me figure this out.

We need evidence that this is the case...The plural of anecdotes is not data. For instance, Vitamin C excess can cause bladder cancer in rats, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will cause cancer in humans. The way to know is to compare farm animals who receive supplements to farm animals who don’t receive supplements using a sufficient sample size.

@@MedicosisPerfectionalis Thank you for your answer, but I wanted to know if the cobalamin in soil for example would work for humans - so if humans would stop washing their vegetables - there is a lot of data in reviewed papers who are suggesting that. In your video you list a lot of non animal sources but there are a lot of papers which suggest that the vitamin B12 in those sources is useless for humans. I am sorry if my question was confusing, I already know what is going on with farm animals and B12, there is a lot of data. I wanted do know if there is evidence to your knowledge that those papers that suggest that contamination of water (mud water) for example, or soil would be a source of B12 that a human could use, are wrong. And if you think those papers are wrong, why. I know this is a lot to ask but it would be great.

Hey, I found a paper (Vitamin B12 among Vegetarians: Status, Assessment and Supplementation. Nutrient.2016 doi: 10.3390/nu8120767) that explained what I did not get ! My misunderstanding of all this came from the distinction between active forms of B12 and inactive forms (pseudoB12). Thank you for your time and your videos. Have a great day

Just because you dislike President Trump doesn't mean you needed to show case that dislike in your video. He has nothing to do with trying to find info on a vitamin
