Wow, this Dr. just validated something I have wondered about. After heart attack, three way by pass I quit being outside. One year later I'm diagnosed out of the blue with Advanced RA. Now I have it in my lungs. All the sudden I have allergies, post nasal drip & diagnosed with a lung infection that's not curable. I cough non stop & cough up heavy amounts of phlegm . I could go on. The good part...approx a month ago I remembered I had tested very low in Vit D & magnesium. I started taking 10,000 IU daily. I didn't know the connection between low Vit D levels & respiratory infections. I have noticed a substantial amount less coughing etc. I even feel like a cloud has lifted. I never made the lack of sun & air connection , now I know because I sat in the house for 9 years ! Such good news. No wonder the powers that be are trying to block out the sun !
I think you get excited by the fact that vitamin d could be so helpful in leading a healthy productive life. And assuming you are taking adequate amounts you are feeling positive and listening to a good talk about its added benefits makes you feel even better!
I asked the Canadian government to ask industry to step up the production of Vitamin D-3 and they have DONE nothing to inform the public on this. . . SHAME!
Wow!🙏🏾Went to the ER this week Wednesday diagnosed with Bronchitis Dr gave me antibiotics to prevent pneumonia BUT..told me to amp my vitamin D3 up to 5’000 per day until my symptoms are gone😏..then today I see this RU-vid Video!...Zinc and high doses of Vitamin C also to fight respiratory virus he said
Thank you Dr. Rehl, in July 2020, I watched this video with great interest, after having had chronic sleep aponea for the last ten years. At 21 minutes into the video I saw the difference in the airways of the mice and decided to go onto Vitamin D and K2. I started out low and gradually worked my way up to Vitamin D (8,000 IU) and K2 (200mg) daily. I noticed a massive difference within two weeks, sleeping better, shorter, waking up refreshed. Here I am a year later, and my massage therapist says I don't have sleep apnoea any more when I fall asleep during her sessions. However, if I go off the D, I notice a near immediate difference after only a couple of days of being totally exhausted. Thank you, so much!! Now, if only I could sort out my chronic tinnitus?!
Fascinating to see the photo of the National Jewish Sanitarium. My great aunt was a patient there, and the treatment brought her back to good health. She lived a long and productive life.
All medical professionals need to see this video and advocate something more than just washing your hands and social distancing. Boosting our immune system is vital throughout this!
Dr. Rehl you are wonderful, I am a nurse and I have sent this video out to all.my friends and coworkers, you are exactly spot on in your findings, I just wish all medical practioners would consider this approach.
P Pumpkin .....been taking zinc , since I had shingles...along w/ L-Lysine. I been taking all kinds of supplement pills. I take to many to list all of them. I have been taking Vitamin D 3 w/K2 together! I’ve had shingles twice ! The 2nd shingles was worse than 1st! I don’t need a 3rd shingles...UGH. Good Luck- “EVERYBODY”......Get your vitamin C too!
About 7 years ago, I started vitamin D dosing. I came about doing it through researching and living through ADHD. At the time I was transferred to a different department in my Company and due to the job's inherent dangers I quickly discovered how my HDHD could get me severely injured or killed if I don't do something about my lack of mindfulness and brain fog. Up to that point I've learned life skills to help me manage it. Albeit I also take other supplements but I do truly believe that once I started the vitamin D the brain fog disappeared. My ability to concentrate dramatically improved. Most of if not all of the associated issues of ADHD have disappeared so much so that one would be hard pressed to define what is a norm and what is not. I just wanted to share this is my personal experience and testimony to Vitamin D supplementation. That being said, I've been with the same organization for 8 years. I am now a team leader. I am truly blessed and I also know that medicine and vitamins are not a cure all, we need spirituality and guidance from caring people to make our lives work.
Thank you sir I've had magior heart surgery and have respiratory issues so been taking vitamin D3 for a couple of years and I think it's made a difference in my recovery I needed to read your comment thank you again
I'm always outside and when I was younger when it was more prevelant in my life I practically lived outside. I think its a matter of needing more than the average person.
Thank you so much for this presentation. My doc recommended that I take 4000 IUs of D3, and it has helped me. Must admit didn’t take it daily. I paused this video half way through and took a D3 capsule. I have to let my doc know she was spot on. Also when I heard the lecturer talk about cod liver oil...my mind flashed back to those days when it was mandatory for us kids to swallow a tablespoon of that nasty stuff, chased with a quarter orange...daily, up to age 14. I thought my parents were inflicting “cruel and unusual punishment.” However, being African American, that “cruel and unusual punishment” (so I thought) was one of the best things my parents could’ve done for me.
Jen Pollard, how very true. I had an experience when I was building a radio station for a guy a few years ago and we were out in the sun all day. I have been taking Dr Wallach's 90 Essential Nutrients for about 20 years, and I did not burn at all. My friend, who I was building the radio station for, is African American and he was out in the sun working all day just like I was. The bottom line is, he experienced a sunburn, but I did not even though I am white, and so it's more than just getting enough Sun, you have to have your body tuned with all the nutrients needed to keep everything in top-notch condition to convert the serum cholesterol in your skin into Vitamin D3. If you listen to your doctor and he says get off of all cholesterol containing foods, you are headed for disaster or, if you are taking cholesterol reducing drugs, you will be causing Alzheimer's disease and many other problems.
Jen Pollard i was a sick kid and the dr took me off milk and on cod liver oil. Many years later i heard a song by Hamish Imlack called, cod liver oil and the orange juice!
It's good but you should not overdo it. In periods when you need you can take a lot, but more than 4000 for prolonged periods could cause issues. Always check with your doctor, she sounds smart
@@marcofogli4317 Actually, there is ZERO evidence that any dose below 30,000 IUs a day causes harm. There have been cases where people have accidentally taken 2,000,000 IUs a day for weeks, and the symptoms produced were easily fixed just by discontinuing the excessive dose. Just half an hour of sun in summer in Oslo Norway (!) will produce 10,000 to 20,000 IUs of vitamin D in the skin
Yeah I made my son take the cod liver and I used to take the bottle and carefully pour it under the tongue and have a glass of milk to chase it. And if you get the technique just right then you don't even taste it. Milk is a good chaser compared orange juice
Massively helpful. Being a composium of actual studies it gives viewers additional confidence to the many anecdotal ones. ALSO IT CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH THAT NORMAL FAMILY DOCTORS HAVE VERY LITTLE INSTRUCTION IN THE FIELD OF FOOD AND MEDICINE. You are unlikely to get much help there. So it's up to you to get yourself informed. Also bear in mind that as you age your needs for such valuable nutrients vastly increase. At sixty years old your needs for this one item may be a half dozen times more than a twenty year old. So perhaps it can be understood why we become ever more vulnerable to illness as we age. Remember too, the number of people who die of vitamin overdose is probably zero. But death from prescribed pharmaceutals is the third or fourth leading cause of mortality year on year.
It's very possible to get a toxic (blindness and skin falling off) dose of Vitamin A from cod liver oil, but a lot of modern cod liver oil seems to have reduced vit. A vs Vit D. Just be aware and don't drink a cup of the stuff!
So true James Smith! I need to find a doctor or a holistic practitioner near me to help decide what supplements I actually need to take. There are so many good ones, but I need to focus on the ones I truly need; VitD, zinc..what about CoQ10, niacin... I have so many questions.
fortification with vitamin D in foods by industry is not vitamin D3 ( cholecalciferol ), but vit D2 ( ergocalciferol). What we need to supply is vitam D3 , which is more effective to prevent diseases.
Hey Dr. Rehl, my name is also Dr.Rehl! Great presentation. I also included some information from OrthoMolecular Products on vitamin K2. Totally important and not to be dismissed. Great work! I highly recommend the book “K2 and the Calcium Paradox“ by Kate Rhéaume-Bleue. 2012.
Hello, my vitamin D is 19.1, I am a ckd stage 2 patient gfr 76 with hematuria 2+ & prot 2+ with prot/cret at 639 could it be because of my low vitamin D, if you can reply I will deeply appreciate it, thanks.
This explains why my sinuses clear up completely when taking big doses of vitamin D and also why my nose and eyes stop running when lying in the sun when I have a cold.
@Ram Ram 4000- 8000 IU. The brand Carlson has softgels of 4000 IU each. Experiment and see what seems to affect you. Make sure that you also take them with vitamin K2. It will prevent calcification in the arteries. Doctors usually do not tell you this.
My mother was raised in la Habana, Cuba. When growing up, if I got a cold or flu my mom would put me outside on my swing set. She just said it was good for me.
A medical nerd with some health conditions, watching these types of videos to understand her own health problems. Fascinating. It all lines up. Thank you so much for sharing this on RU-vid.
What a very informative video on D3 and the Sun. Wow, today I spent 6 hours in the Sun. Having has covid-19 some symptoms. I feel much better today. Fresh air is good for you!
This was a fantastic piece of imformation , many of which identify symptoms of what I have been suffering from since Childhood. I will most likely look into this further. Than you for posting this critical imforation. Cheers !
Thank you for an excellent presentation Sir. I told my doctor recently that I can control my asthma with 50,000iu vitamin D and 1 x 150mg oil of Oregano capsule daily....."I've never heard of that" she said. My reply... "it's about time you did then!"
Nananana Na! Have been taking best quality D3 (the sunshine Vitamin) for years. In the northern hemisphere none of us get enough of this supplement. So at 80, keeping my fingers crossed.
HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) contains 50% glucose + 50% glucose. Table sugar is composed of the same ratio as the above and breaks down quickly to the equivalent of HFCS in the gut. Honey is basically HFCS. So you see, Honey, HFCS, and table sugar are diet-wise, equivalents of one another. So any of these things are harmful when they compose too large a portion of our calorie intact. And BTW, Cane Sugar IS table sugar (sucrose) - no better than HFCS!
Spain is all about Mediterranean diet (olive oil, fish, vegetables...) and have about 80% of its population with Vitamin D deficency. I am one of those Spanish people. And it is not because we lack sun days!
You have to specifically ask for the 25-Hydroxy test for Vitamin D. Most doctors do not test for it, when they run all of your other testing. You must ask for it to be done in addition and it is a very important test.
@@gregllamb2410 my endocrinologist tests my D3 levels annually. I've never asked. He wanted to give me 50,000 iu per week & I protested because I was worried about toxicity.. Over the years he had me track my levels. I am now taking 10 to 12,000 oh daily to test between 50 & 60. I have not been sick since I got my level over 40.
@@gabrielagerstman4431 Can u pls elaborate on which form of this D vitamin is most absorbable : is it in drops, chewables or tablets?? I found out lately that my system cant break down pills so well. Thanks for your advice.

A billion thanks to you honorable Dr Ryan Rehi it’s so precious than gold your video and your teaching . Congratulation good luck and more power in your mission and profession as a doctor
Stumbled upon this video amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and am astounded at the similarity of those who are vitamin D deficient (those recommended to be supplemented ie; elderly, african-american, obese ,etc) and the complication/deaths of those diagnosed with COVID-19. EXCELLENT INFO. THANK YOU

I’ve had chronic Asthma and severe allergies my whole life. I’ve participated in numerous studies at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville TN. About 25 yrs ago, thru my own research and dietary modifications, My condition greatly improved. Once I began addressing my vitamin D deficiency, Trips to the ER for Asthma attacks stopped completely. Reoccurring sinus infections became a rarity. I still have Asthma and carry my rescue inhaler, but my symptoms are rare. I take a vitamin D supplement to this very day, and spend quality time in the sun throughout the week.
Mj I wish I could tell you what I’ve had to deal with having a Vitamin D deficiency (that I was unaware of) for so long... Some of the medications I took for asthma over the years (Prednisone) actually depleted nutrients and caused permanent bone damage... Imagine being 30 yrs old with Osteopenia. I’m an African American, and discovered that we tend to have a vitamin D deficiency in general. Addressing the issue thru diet and supplements brought great relief. My diet these days is mostly plant based, (No pork, No beef, No shellfish) and has resulted in better breathing, better sleeping, and better overall health as I get older. The best part is that I spend far less on quality food and a Vitamin D3 supplement, than I could spend on medications for allergy and Asthma.
nujaz My husbands life long chronic asthma is no longer, since taking Vitamin D3+K2 , double amount in winter as there is no sun in winter and his asthma came back,, we realised his vitamin D had depleted. He too carry’s an inhaler, but we have now bought another type of inhaler/nebuliser that sells for around £ 30/40 and you can use it with saline solution of natural salt not table salt and colloidal silver, so now maybe he can now break free from having to visit his Doctor. 😄😎
Margaret FitzGerald When I stopped eating beef, the seasonal issues I had for years improved, particularly at the start of winter and spring; as you may know, many asthmatics also experience Gastrointestinal issues along with the asthma; those issues stopped completely when I removed beef from my diet. One tip I’d like to pass along... On days when I feel a little congested, I have a cup of black coffee (No cream, No sugar) with 2 sprinkles of cayenne pepper for fast relief... Tell your husband to give that a try sometime.
I was recently diagnosed with severely low levels of Vitamin D (only 8), and am taking 10,000 IU per day. I also had the flu in November and 2 respiratory infections since then prior to the diagnosis. I've been studying up on vitamin D, and what an amazing vitamin. I really enjoyed this presentation. I feel it will also have benefit for those who will or will not get Covid19 and/or the extent of their symptoms.
I was low, even when taking 5,000 IU per day, then even higher up to 10,000 IU (only slightly low)... but it wasn't until I learned to take Vitamin K2 with it, and a Multivitamin more regularly to supplement my poor diet and lack of sun, that my Vitamin D settled down and seemed to work like it should, and my sleeping improved and then everything improved. I have heard plant based is ok, but not as efficient as animal based, so you have to take a little more for same result, so be aware. it is mentioned breifly in this video, but more detailed in some of the other vit D videos that follow ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fmDng_uMCnY.html
I take 5000 units a day of vitamin D and have not gotten a sever bladder or kidney infections anymore , but only mild ones which go away on there own since I've been taking 5000 units of vitamin D a day...
Rhonda Duffy like you I’ve had m.s. for over 40 years, but I’ve never heard of this treatment of vit D3. I must go out and get some when it’s safe to do so, thanks once again. Stay safe and well. God bless
I have a portable cot. I lay in the sun naked in front of my sliding glass doors all winter long. The doors face a forest (complete privacy). Improves depression. Relaxes muscles. I'm 65.
You go girl I'm 67 and still sungaze and loving the Sun but I love you shua first and foremost for letting us have his beautiful creation as long as we can
My friend had no D showing in blood test, she took D too late, her numbers would not come up...sadly she passed from Cancer, which was detected later. Fast forward to 2 years ago my D was down to 10, I thought of my friends lack of D and cancer...my dr recommended 5000 units, I took 10000 for two years, up to 40 now. Magnesium is essential. Triple magnesium even better. Plus it helps regulate you. I think the powers that be know that. I also do not use sunscreen...blocks the D and deletes the purpose of sunshine..

Years ago I remember a friend telling me that her niece had lupus so I thought well I should look that up and find out if it's related to a mineral or vitamin deficiency I did some research and I found out that lack of vitamin D can contribute to lupus.. Well make this long story short I told her to contact her mother and get the doctor to check to see if she's in I need a vitamin D and because I was not a nurse and I don't know what I'm talkin about they didn't bother checking it. Number one they said because she was the flag girl she got enough vitamin D but I remember she used to put suntan lotion and sunscreen on her body all the time so I'm sure that must have blocked the vitamin D. Nobody listens to me a year later she had a massive heart attack about about three weeks before she died the doctor finally checked your vitamin D and it was so lowest that they had ever seen. She had a whole year to tell her niece mother to check the vitamin D I mean why didn't the doctor think of that? I'm no nurse I have no degree but it's good to do some research yourself I didn't think that would have made too much of a big difference but I said at least try to see what she's lacking. Oh well you can take a horse to water but you can't make them drink and besides there's a lot of people that are Dr worshippers and this a lot of doctors that can have a tendency to be narcissistic and there's doctors I will not test you for your vitamins and the minerals in your body so just keep giving you drugs to cover it up any ailment but then there's the good doctors that do test your blood and my hat goes off to them
this is actually stunning,, im glad he has made this video, i've always read and knew vit d was important, i thought it was for your bones,,, but that's not it,,, we have receptors on Every Cell,,,, no Wonder we see our animals sunning themselves.
Animals are smart. :) My yellow lab adores sunlight, will lie in it, belly turned toward it even if she's not on her back. Cats love it too. Wish I had a private place where I could sunbathe like that for even the fifteen minutes each side like you said, but I live in an apartment. :(

I’ve been telling family friends and strangers about vitamin D3 if it’s low you get abnormal growths and much higher risk for cancer. During the 1918 flue pandemic some family’s took a teaspoon of baking sorta in warm water every day and never got the flu. One family who did that was the only family to survive in her town.
I haven't studied medicine, but I do like to find out why my doctor recommends something. This video answered all my questions on Vitamin D supplementation. I never knew any of this before. Thank you Dr. Rehl for educating us.
Yeah it's important for people who can't or don't get enough sun. In Canada some places have darker winters people get depressed without enough sun too.
The immune system does not allways work, sometomes in reverse. Some medicals po po vitamins, all foods inter act and do not provide, just a retired mil, mil relies to eat more vits. nuf.
Vitamin D is important and I have been arguing this point for years, especially where it comes to sun-screen. My 6 kids never had sunscreen and were in the sun for many hours a day doing sport and have always been healthy.
My mother had rental artery stenosis and therefore basically only one functioning kidney for years. She saw a nephrologist for 20 years before I asked and got him to check her Vitamin D. It was desperately low! Don't wait to TELL you doctor you want your Vit. D checked, especially if you have any kidney problems!

Bravo Doctor!! But please do another video of the importance of Vitamin k2 that should be taken with Vitamin D and that vitamin d is not a vitamin but more of a hormone. Thank you for your study!
It's important to take into account the daily supplement IU value should be increased for darker skinned individuals due to melanin blocking conversion of Vitamin D3. AND, the studies do not mention whether or not the people in the trials were deficient to begin with. Therefore, if you have symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency start on a higher dose. Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency/Insufficiency before reaching extremes of rickets or osteomalacia are observed as: muscle/joint pain, extreme fatigue, brain fog (poor memorization), depression, to only mention a few. I suggest looking up keywords like "my vitamin d deficiency story" in order to hear from real patients and their journeys.
I have taken 10,000 iu of D3 daily for the last six years and have had about 4 colds and only two URIs. and no flu. I try to keep my 25OHD level above 60 ng/ml. My overall health is much better since supplementing with D3
Interesting. I've just had a blood test and my GP has put me on 3200IU per day for 3 months. The normal parameters for vitamin D levels should be between 75-200 nmol/L, mine was 27. With covid-19 getting closer to home, This is one med that I will not forget, as well as self-isolating from last week.
It's a improvement on many recommendations that you mention and specify the 3 in D3. most recommendations talk only about vitamin D but you still have a part of the requirement which is that D3 should be accompanied by vitamin K2. Phoenix Nutrition such a product very cheaply.
When the endocrinologist told me I was Vitamin D deficient I said I couldn't be, milk was my favorite beverage. But the blood test was yes and all those milk cartons were wrong.
The melanoma panic induced in parents which peaked about twenty years ago and saw them dressing their kids from top to toe every time they went to the beach probably has a lot to answer for. Gentle exposure to the sun (for all except those with abnormally fair complexions) is not only healthy in terms of Vit D, but it fortifies the skin against further exposure, making sunburns less likely. It is sun BURN, not casual exposure, which seems to tip the balance towards melanoma.
I live on the 47th parallel North. Just got my D tested (End of March) and after taking 5,000 to 10,000 in of D3 every day, all winter long......my level was 53. Been out in the sun the past few days.....feels GREAT. Sunshine is the best.....if it is available.
