I started having symptoms of temporal lobe epilepsy like phantom smells and extreme Deja vu. But my EEG and mri came back normal. So I’m really confused as to whether I have epilepsy or not

Doctors diagnose individuals with epilepsy when they have had at least two unprovoked seizures. I have had epilepsy for 43 years now and there have been times when my EEG was normal. The extreme deja vu and phantom smells are auras. When my seizures were not controlled I would feel very frightened and then lose consciousness. Here is the link for our temporal lobe epilepsy video. Please let me know if you have any questions ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i6Bxpckv_d4.htmlsi=T-Wd_3C_F9hRDC44

Just an old and handicapped guy who started having seizures, every 8 to 15 weeks? Thanks for your information
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation

I would seek a appointment with an epileptologist (neurologist that specializes in epilepsy) and request a EEG and MRI. The EEG is used to find any abnormal brain activity and the MRI can see if there is any brain trauma. I would keep a journal and write down any symptoms you are having. I apologize that it took me so long to respond. I normally receive an email when someone comments and I didn't receive this one for some reason. I just came by it now when answering another comment. If you need any information, please let me know. I am happy to help.

@@tekendrabhattarai2898 I would always talk to your physician before making any changes. I take supplements to help with my side effects, but my doctor is aware of everything I take and it is in my records. Vitamin D3 has helped greatly with reducing my depression, calcium to make sure my bone density is good, and magnesium for my headaches. Make sure it is ok with your doctor before making any changes.

@@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundationI don’t know where you are, but here in the UK doctors are only interested in avoiding litigation, and making £commission from prescribing controlled meds. They will ALWAYS steer you away from OTC supplements, coz they don’t make ££ from it. I asked my GP about CBD, Gaba and Vitamins for my absence seizures and he scoffed and tried to make me feel stupid.

There is so many types of magnesium which one is suitable to aid with seizures
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation 8 месяцев назад
I would check with your neurologist/epileptologist to see. Depending on the seizures that you have and the medication you are on, they may suggest something specific. I take magnesium because I get migraines at times. My doctor said that magnesium helps to block signals in the brain that can cause migraines. I get them when the barometric pressure changes and I found since adding magnesium to my care plan, I have fewer migraines and when I do have them, they are not as intense.

Why do seizures leave me with no taste on my tongue? And i spit alot
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation
I'm not a physician so I cannot diagnose. I found an article in Science Direct that explains the changes in the brain resulting in loss of taste. Here is the link: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1059131119307034. When it comes to spitting, I found a brief description in Neurology. They state ictal spitting can last 10-25 seconds and is an automatic behavior such as lip smacking. Both symptoms are tied to temporal lobe epilepsy. The one with spitting is connected to the mesial temporal lobe. Here is the link for you: n.neurology.org/epearls/20160119. We created a new temporal lobe epilepsy video this year and it explains in detail the substructures of the temporal lobe. Watching that may be beneficial for you so you can get more of an idea of the function and complexity of the temporal lobe. If you have any other questions, please let me know, I'm happy to help.

also vitamin d is essential for epilepsy patients
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation
That is so true! When I put this presentation together, I was following what Harvard Health suggested, and looking at the research I reviewed, I'm surprised that they didn't list Vitamin D or Vitamin D3. I found an article that stated in the beginning that there is not much data on the benefits of Vitamin D3 and epilepsy, but they are working to establish it. Here is the link for the article if you are interested: doi.org/10.3389%2Ffneur.2016.00218. Thank you so much for your comment!

How can I reduce my epilepsy
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation
@DefeatingEpilepsyFoundation Месяц назад
It is best to speak with your doctor regarding controlling seizures because epilepsy is treated on an individual basis. One thing I have done to keep my seizures under control is to eat well by avoiding processed foods, get a good night's sleep, exercise, and do what I can to reduce stress.

Try non invasive alternate therapy like Sujok, accupuncture, ayurveda head massage, breathing exercises to help remove brain fog. Do this in conjunction with your neurologist or epileptologist prescribed AEDs please.
