@@collinhayes9440 90% of rby matches were not against top guys. Of course a 2x champ is gonna major most guys. Whenever he wrestles top guys he plays it too safe. Same thing with Yianni too this year tbh
The fact that Vito wasn’t even surprised he won. Man displayed no emotion at all when he got his hand raised he already knew the outcome before the match started
Rby had grown bored with the sport while Vito finally realized he had something to prove when it came to folkstyle. Its great that he has bigger dreams buy this is no small feat and the things required to win this tournament should serve him well in international competition. He figured out how to win at a style that wasn't as fun for him coming from a freestyle pedigree. OW!
Vito put on a master class. One of the most dominant NCAA final victories I’ve ever seen over another supremely high level wrestler. He separated himself from the field. Speed, slickness, strength, mat awareness, IQ…Vito is the total package. Long Island baby!
After watching Vito handle Fix in the fashion he did I thought maybe Fix was battling injury or something along those lines..but nah Vito is simply elite, it’s in his blood and he showed us the next level tonight..amazing display of skill, mat awareness and speed against a formidable opponent
The way he finished that first shot was so damn impressive. didn’t give RBY an inch of anything to defend against. he’s always been impressive but I feel like he just needed to figure out how to finish big matches and become a champ
The only way to beat speed is with more speed and RBY was always faster than is opponent until this time. We all have to remember that Vito got to wrestle with Yianni and Kyle Dake.
I am rewatching the Fix match. I was so shocked by the Ramos Lee match and the speed of RBY McGree I missed parts. I am rewatching this one because I blinked.
This is one of the ‘true lies’ in wrestling (like ‘chest to chest’). You don’t cross your leg *in front*. A cross step can increase your range dramatically, especially when attacking the back leg in an opponent’s staggered stance. And you don’t have to be ‘all-world’ to do it.
Please watch it and don't be afraid to watch international wrestling UWW on RU-vid. Wrestlers are evolving and wrestling as a sport is bigger than ever.
This just goes to show how much nuance there is in this beautiful sport. It also shows how no one is untouchable, you can be beat by anyone who worked just as hard or harder mentally the hardest sport in the world.
Watching Vito with that first takedown...I knew it would be his match. That's the first time I've seen RBY get taken down in a long time. And before I could even process that, he takes him down again...Vito is a machine man.
After RBY won big 10, he said it didn't mean anything. He wasn't humble, or appreciative. Just seemed super egotistical, cocky. I don't like him, and was happy to see him absolutely schooled. Vito looked so dialed in with every movement, and his speed was more than impressive! Count me in as a new fan!!
@@ogot344 That may be the case, in which getting schooled might inject some excitement, and appreciation into him. Let's hope. He just doesn't seem to fit in with how the other PSU elite act. Those other guys, are some respectful, humble, appreciative, God loving champs.
Big 10 doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. March is the only thing that matters. If you don't think RBY is humble or appreciative you are mistaken. It seems like he is soft-spoken and more on the humble side. He's not super egotistical or cocky at all and that's easy to see. You may have analyzed him incorrectly. I think you just don't like RBY, which is a problem, and was signified by you being happy to see him absolutely schooled
I think he should have been at 133 this whole time. Would have been a 3x champ probably. I’m hoping he makes the Olympic team, his style translates so well internationally
@@michaelhayes6209 no. It was a move that maybe happened one other time the entire tournament. Stop acting like that move wasnt special. If it is so common, why didnt rby see it coming?
I didn’t think Vito would beat either Fix or RBY. I was very wrong. He hammered both of them. Outstanding tournament young man. Well done and best of luck in the future.
Are we not going to talk about how Vito’s dad sounds like Gru from the minions? Also, those shot were insanely fast! Vito pushed the pace the entire time and didn’t look tired once.
"Don't forget to enjoy what you're doing." Arujau echoes other solid champions like Retherford who craved the excitement of just running out on the mat. Remember Zain's enthusiastic smile at the end of a match? Looked just like Vito's. Lee, RBY, Fix and maybe a few others possibly and slowly drained the fun away from their literal, time-consuming, life-enveloping "passions?" I had a coach who liked to say "If you're putting this much time into it, might as well be good at it and have some fun." With all the MMA training RBY's been doing lately (and seeing Nickal's recent success), watch to see just how badly he takes the loss: probably not too hard with one foot already planted outside the amateur rectangle and into the octagon of riches [he hopes]. Well-deserved reward to the hungrier competitor who exemplifies wrestling at its finest, with the family interview/reaction to underline even more why he won.
Vito EARNED this freaking title. Smooth like a KING. RBY phenom - but he made RBY look like he wasn't the champ. Finished every TD and held RBY back. Good freaking Job New Yorker.
Arujau!!!!! Not only did he not take a red shirt season - unlike Dake he didn't suck or gain weight to avoid specific competitors. A TRUE 4X NCAA champion!!! Congratulations!!!!!
My son went to VHW in Syosset for years. He trained 100's of hours of live wrestling with Vito. I could not be happier for someone winning that title. Vito was bred to be champion. His father was a 2x World Champion from Russia. He was an Olympic bronze medalist. Vito has also trained in Russia. He has incredible athletic ability and mental strength. I was not surprised at all he beat RBY and he will be heavily favored to repeat next year.
I went to Jericho High School and wrestled against Vito at Battle of the Harbor. I like saying I scored 7 points against him, I just don't tell people he let me up haha
@@captainandcoke7085 good school! I always went to Ascend wrestling club in Hicksville. From what I've heard, Ascend is far more of a technical club, and Vulgars is more physical. Both great clubs who've produced high quality wrestlers.
Amazing job by Vito…he’s really leveled up. RBY has obviously had a phenomenal career with 2 titles and a third finals appearance but the game of improvement never ends.
A star is born, vito Arujau is now famous. dude is lightning fast with impeccible technique. His dad being a Russian world medalist certainly helps his developement.
I called it. I new Vito was something 133lbs wasn’t expecting. On a different channel I was ridiculed in the comment section for saying Vito is going to surprise everyone. And he did.
Arujau was perhaps the most impressive finalist of the night, along with Starocci. Where has this Arujau been hiding? After that performance, you can make a legit argument that he is the best pound for pound wrestler in the country entering next season. Even over Brooks and Starocci -- and that's coming from a Penn State guy. Shout out to O'Toole who wrestled a really gutsy performance and proved his mettle as well. Great night of wrestling.
@@footballfanboy9680 well, it was how Vito lulled both RBY and Fix to sleep with his movements. He would walk into them slow and then just explode in his defense and reattacks. His counter when rby had was something to behold. Who does that to rby? It was like Rby was playing checkers and Vito was playing chess.
These finals displayed a lot of elite wrestling, not just vito who was outstanding, but also Alirez with great takedown to his back, O,Toole handling David Carr And Mason Parris was very impressive as well
it's young men like these that give me a hope for the future of America, physical sports like this build both physical strength and character and with good moral values turn these athletes into young men of excellence
Vito did a great job of being offensive and taking it to him. I agree it would have been a low scoring match RBY vs Fix with the hands head gefense. Nice to see a match like this. Congrats on a job well done!
Vito handled his VICTORY like a champ. Walked back to the center and shook his opponents hand and didn’t do some “viral” celebration like most do. It’s unnecessary and not needed. Oh wait Yianni did the same thing. Cornell is where it’s going to be for college wrestling in the next 5 years.
I have been coming back to this every couple of days to enjoy this. I like RBY and I think he's a hell of a wrestler, but as others have said his style leaves much to be desired. Vito just elevated his game so much in this match, RBY looked shell shocked and ultimately I think it shows what would happen to him regularly on the international scene against the upper tier. NCAA has to get back to calling more stalls so the action opens up more.
There's so much material you can study off this video alone. The way he controls the wrist is something you see in elite freestyle wrestlers. Lots of rules have been broken with his performance
I dont know how people didnt know that Vito beat RBY at the World Team trials! And he had too win two matches as it is freestyle and went 2-0. This wasn't a shocker for that reason, especially to Vito himself and he showed it. Grats Vito!
This whole tournament is the perfect example to why there shouldn't be seeds. Every wrestler in their respective weight classes who qualifies should put their name into a hat and fill the brackets by luck of the draw.
@@chidoriman20 How can they rank them from best to worst when there is a tournament to decide that? If they are going to seed them according to rank (opinion), then they may as well just not have the tournament. Makes no sense to seed them and give the highest ranked wrestlers the easiest path to the semi finals. Make it interesting. Besides, if a wrestler is the best, it shouldn't matter if their first round match could potentially be against another great wrestler, right?
