Heard this performed by a chamber orchestra in an old church in Vienna pre-pandemic. It was the most amazing musical experience of my life - totally unforgettable. Literally made me cry. I love learning more about this music. ❤️

@@devolapopola8289 It’s a completely different experience hearing the music live, feeling the emotions of the players, seeing the sweat pour off their faces as they put their hearts into the performance. Hearing it with my family on a perfect warm summer evening, performed in a centuries-old building with amazing acoustics, only enriched the experience.

Mr. Maull is an amazing teacher! I've always loved this concerto but his commentary unlocked a whole new level of appreciation. Thank you so much!

I have always enjoyed the seemingly unique opening to Summer as performed by Anne-Sophie Mutter. Her version feels like it is played almost twice as slow as every other recording I have heard of the same piece. Having grown up in the hot humid south of the USA, the slow languid almost torpid tempo her opening conveys resonates deeply with me and feels much more expressively accurate than the standard tempo. Just a minor detail, but such a powerful effect!

That was a fun program, and the explanations of what Vivaldi was doing compositionally added to the enjoyment and appreciation of his beautiful music. Thanks

Spectacular! Please teach this in Public Schools to our children! We shouldn't have to make people wait until they're elderly to appreciate the hidden meaning of music. If you have to, hide the cellphone, and DRAG the kids to the concert! They'll thank you some day.

@Prof. Weed Nothing would make me happier to know I was wrong. But when we hear about "cut backs", it's always the arts that are cut first. Please tell me I'm wrong.

@Prof. Weed , because we hear everyday the trash the majority of people listen to, and how increasingly trashy the ads everywhere, a great indication of what marketing has found to be what the highest percentage of the public likes, and everywhere one goes, have adapted to the terrible subculture that keeps growing. Once one grows up in a classical environment, there is absolutely no way one can turn to pseudo music and enjoy it.

Wow. Love the interpretation/explanation and then the music. I really don't have the right words. Thank you for the joy. Am saving some of this deliciousness for another time... when I can be uninterrupted and able to take the time. Sigh.

I think it more likely Vivaldi had a general idea of what he wanted to evoke in each concerto (like in the concerto la notte which doesn't have an associated text) and added the sonnets and extracted the captions later - they are afterthoughts
