Worked like a charm. I cut a tiny square off a cloth "band-aid" from a cheap medical kit for the patch. I couldn't have done it without the stellar info. Cheers.
thank you so much! i'm quite new to vr and bought a second-hand set, and had this problem after about 200 hours of play. i was so worried that i'd broke it and it couldn't be fixed easily. i've never opened up my tech of any kind and done this kind of stuff to try and fix it, but this tutorial helped me so much and i didn't have any issues at all. my controller works perfectly now!
Worked fantastic thanks. I used epoxy resin to glue it in place. Less chance of it moving now. The stuff HTC use is so weedy and poor. No wonder that little circular thing moves about. Replacing the top part where the sensors sit in was nerve wracking for me. Those clips are a pain. 10/10
Tried a few other tutorials and they improved it a little bit but didn't see anyone do the paper method so I tried it and it works like new now. Thanks for the detailed tutorial.
This is a fantasic fix! The video is incredibly easy to follow, and just gets right to the point. Thank you so much for this video. Saved me from spending money on a whole new controller!
Thanks a lot for the guide mate! Really really helpful. Fixed both of my controllers in about 30min~ First time opening it and it was really scary, but your tutorial was awesome! Cheers
Had problem exactly as explained, had to drive to procure a better Torx 5 as the one in my house was almost stripping one of the screws, I used a small square of some notepad paper (folded once), worked flawlessly on first test.
Thanks for uploading this , was able to fix mine , one thing I found , if you dont have a long enough screwdriver(i.e. one with a replaceable bit) for the 2 bottom screws , you can widen the holes slightly with a larger screwdriver , which should allow you fit the screwdriver in .
my controllers have gone nearly 5000 hours without issue until today, finally my right controller has stopped clicking on one side... I'd read about this being a common issue many years ago so was I lucky? well this happened a couple days after smashing the controller into my low ceiling, so probably not, I was just careful
For those experience controller sync issues with slow blinking blue lights on their old vive controllers, it's due to the orange film or bands not docked in their strip slots or not touching the metallic pieces inside the controller. Both the long film from the middle to bottom of the controller need to touch what looks like the battery and the other is the circular band that overs around the rubber inner piece; that band has to touch he middle metallic part in the center of the controller/under the touch pad. I taped the film to the metal pieces and it synced easily.
thank you so much you're a life saver! For anyone struggling, I had to make the holes bigger at 2:19 because my screwdriver didn't fit why is this a thing in the htc vive controllers anyway because when I opened my up, there was like 3 little squares from tape that were not in position (my htc is preowned so idk it it manufactured like that or the previous owner had the same problem)
