I mean... it would be if we knew the price already to be low... which is not going to be because 2 high FOV cameras with all the sensors and a CPU aren't cheap. So 5 trackers will probably be around $1.5k easy.

it is 3 trackers and 2 controllers or 5 trackers and no controllers.

@@inoob26 any place where you want to have a tracker for virtual space. Like for greenscreeing for movie sets, where they put a tracker on the camera. You can also do mocap, You can put these on IRL props. You can now do all of this without setting up base stations. Which gives a lot more freedom than the old trackers.

@@inoob26 I meant more specific to myself, there's still not too many games besides like B&S or Zenith but not requiring base stations allows me personally to do a lot of cool stuff with them.

And if the self trackers can't do that, if they would consider making a back module for the headset that you could use instead of the battery that has extra tracking cameras for the headset so i could use the controllers or finger tracking not only in front of me.

@@eekthan4664 they probably will, it is more expensive to make because it has to have a pretty powerful SoC to calculate tracking

@@dylang5018 It's a reasonable price considering the quest pro controllers are self tracked, have an onboard snapdragon processor and cost $150 each. But HTC being HTC it may cost more... Let's hope they don't, those things look amazing.

Battery life will not be that great considering the weight of under 100g.

@@Gamerexde touch pros are also a whole ass controller with buttons, high quality rumble, touch sensitive surfaces, other features such as the stylus tips, and probably a better processor than whats in the vive tracker s (people have said the sd662 in touch pros is very overkill for the Insight SLAM tracking), these really shouldn't be $150 each

Vive trackers 3.0 cost €320 each in my country, so I’m saving €2000 just to be sure

"Theoretically" a single smartphone on a stand should do the entire FBT with no trackers on a body. Going from theory to execution is a whole different story. What you are suggesting is a 10x if not 100x more difficult CV/ML task and would probably also require much more powerful chip. And the chip doing "only" real-time SLAM is already quite powerful.

really? I had them setup once in 2016 and have even forgotten they re there. They just work anytime i need it.

If they are not broken then it's most likely caused by USB problems or reflective things in your room.

@@kazioo2 i have zero usb issues and I've covered every reflective surface and still had tons of issues. zero tracking issues with controllers or headset, and they've been like this even when I've replaced them with new ones.

Cameras don't work with lighthouses. ^^" Since Lighthouses are IR lasers they don't work too well as IR lighting either, speaking from experience. xD Would be neat if the trackers use cameras that can see 850nm IR.

I don't think breaking the camera is going to be good. So treat them just like the controllers. Don't punch the wall, don't kick the wall.

The battery life of our new headsets is on par with the industry standard and improved from before, but we're still working to make it even better. You will also find a quick release mount which makes swapping between headsets hassle-free.

Then after that you're gonna need to buy an avatar or many avatars to install the SDK files in to the avatar to make the FBT work. 😢 Like Sony Mocopi did. 😑

@Phi Sadly I not have FBT yet but I buy the HTC Facial Tracker and just can use It only with the avatars who have available Face Tracking in the option menu of the avatar. Soo... That is why I think FBT can be the same thing. 😮

You have a meta/oculus quest 2 the name doesn’t change the hardware. It should work with steamVR no need for the HTC headset just like the older trackers 👍🏻

They are headset agnostic, however we don't know how they will synchronize the play space and if it's a cumbersome process or not. Their own headset can sync automatically due to sharing virtual room map with trackers. Not sure if they can make that with other vendors...

5 is more than enough, 3 is what you need for a good experience. Saying you're disappointed just makes you sound spoiled

@@peshozmiata If that be the case, then why so many say, the more trackers the better? I'm not the only one saying it. O.o Also, is been proven with demonstration videos by VR enthusiasts, what a difference more trackers happen to have. As is, SlimeVR has a Deluxe Tracker Set with 10 trackers now. For that very reason. It all depends on what someone wants to get out of them. And you make yourself an ass, calling me spoiled. You don't know me. O.o If I was so spoiled, as you say, I would not have to work for the very limited cash I have, and would be given anything I want. But I'm not rich. And I can't just afford whatever I want, whenever I want it.

@@glenfoxh You get diminishing returns the more trackers you add. Three trackers feels like you have 70% of your body be tracked, but upping that to 5 only adds another 5-7% to that. Bump that to 11-point, and you get to like 85% at most. And at that point having to put all that stuff on everytime is more of a nuisance than the benefits you get from the tracking. I'm saying this out of personal experience with the current trackers (i'm an enthusiast too). If you want to get the best possible bang for your buck, go with three. SlimeVR needs more physical trackers because it works on a different principle. you need 5 slimeVRs in order to do the same job as 3 Vive trackers, and even then they're not as good because movement is choppier and less responsive to what you're doing.

@@peshozmiata Your word against all the others who have proven otherwise with actual video evidence, that more is better. Again, based off what any person intends to get out of them. OK, so you say you are an enthusiast. So be it. But your experience may differ to that of others. And your expectancy might differ also. As for what I am doing, is have yet to have any trackers of my own. And as for what I will do, is base my decision on a majority of views, just as I always do, not just on your view alone.

​@@glenfoxh The "others" are not unanimous on this, in fact if you search for "11 point tracking" on youtube right now, the first result is a video saying it's a waste of money for most. Which is not something you should be pissed about, it means you can get all the benefits of FBT without spending as much.

Probably not. Base station trackers have the best precision and latency. These are as good as you can get without base stations. They're probably really close. Vive 3.0 trackers also have twice the battery life from what they're saying. Cameras and a processor will drain the battery faster than a few light sensors. The big advantage of the new ones is not setting up base stations, which you already did.

Battery life we're still working on, so will share at the later date, but they'll for sure last longer than an AIO headset. We've also added a quick release mount to enable easy swapping!

I don't get it, current 3.0 trackers are in stock. Base stations were a problem to obtain, but that's because Valve was making them.

Tundra trackers are never in stock but Vive Trackers are. I bet you're right. These new ones will fly off the shelf if they're priced in the $125 to $150 range. Don't screw the price up HTC!
