This is my first attempt to make a vlog to answer the question "Why is OT/PT/SLP services costly in the Philippines?". Tried my best to work with iMovie, and here it is... The MPS RU-vid Channel!
===
I have posted the same question on Facebook the other day and gained some insights from OT/PT/SLP colleagues. I combined their ideas and mine together to discuss the following reasons as to why therapy rates in the Philippines seem to be "expensive":
1. Therapists are highly educated.
2. They are qualified through the PRC board exams.
3. They invest in the resources they use for therapy.
4. Travel costs, documentation, & time have value.
5. They also need to secure their benefits, taxes, and insurance.
If you think that this VLOG is informative, please feel free to like, comment, and share. Whatever is lacking in the video, you may kindly comment them in the box below. Thanks for watching!
Happy new year colleagues! :)
Cheers,
MPS

Hello sir! I've been long debating whether I should take OT or PT as my degree. Overall, I slightly prefer PT over OT pero I heard na underpaid ang mga PT sa Pilipinas (I'm not certain if this is true). I would just like to ask if OTs have good opportunities in the Philippines, and around how much po is the pay? If it's significantly higher than PT, I might choose to go for OT instead since providing for my family would be my top priority.
@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 4 года назад
Hi Melissa. :) In terms of pay, sa Pinas, OT pays higher in private practice, pero sa government/public work they can have same pay. :) Pero in terms of opportunities, pareho lang halos mas kaunti lang ang OTs, kaya ms in demand. :)

which is more highly paid? OT, PT or SLP?
@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 4 года назад
Depende where they work. Pero roughly its SLP>OT>PT (least) sa Pinas. Pero this is just when it comes to private practice. But with covid, those in the government service have more stability. :)

@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 5 лет назад
Hello, I think one of the hardest parts is the process - studying, training, and balancing study-personal life. But it is all worth it. I hope you can get a slot in an OT school and become an OT in 4 years. :)

Can you please recommend po what are good schools for slp in the Philippines.Like which do you think is better po UP or UST ?
@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 3 года назад
Hello :) They are better in different ways actually... Both offer a 4-year program... Siguro in my opinion, if you want a focus on speech and language, you can go to UP... if you want more auditory and ear care, baka UST has an advantage. I might be wrong, but yun. :)

Torn between OT and SLP po. SLP po sana kukunin ko kaso puro sa big universities sya with high tuition fees po except for UP. Hopefully sana po makapasa sa UP pero im still thinking po of the possibilities kaya im also considering OT if ever man. Ask ko lang po sana in terms of pay po, financially rewarding din po ba ang OT kagaya po ng SLP? Madali po kaya ako makakahanap ng trabaho sa hospital or clinical setting po as an OT graduate? Thank you po!
@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 3 года назад
Hi Vee. Yes, definitely both professions are lucrative. Pero mas kaunti ang SLP, hence economically speaking mas in-demand sila. :) You read more about the career paths of SLP vs OT so you would know which one to eventually take. God bless sa exams!

@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 5 лет назад
Hello. Sure, opportunities locally and abroad are available. We need more OTs working in the hospital. :) In the PH, I cannot provide you exact numbers now, but there are not so many OTs working in the hospitals. For more information, you can visit the paot.org website, I think they have some stats there. I am not sure, but please try. :) God bless in your OT journey!

is OT a good pre med?
@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 5 лет назад
Hello Kristel. OT can prepare you for medicine, but if you want to go to medical school, I would suggest taking BS Biology / Med Tech / Nursing. :)
@kristelbaculi5048
@kristelbaculi5048 5 лет назад
thankyou po for responding. actually medtech is my other option. but the daughter of my mother's friend, who's a PT abroad, reccommend this course for me. she said that choose PT if i would go abroad while OT if here in Ph for having high demand. But i cant remember if she reccomend it as pre med or just profession. I keep on researching about this course and searching for a vlog to watch. Thankfully that you have this kind of videos. Keep on making videos about this course plss. 🙂
@michaelsyotrp
@michaelsyotrp 5 лет назад
Thank you Kristel. Will surely take note of that. Hope to do more of these kinds of educational videos. If you want to be an OT, then take OT. But if you will use it for pre-med it may be a waste. One, because OT is such a wonderful and beautiful profession and if you go to medical school, you might miss experiencing its beauty. Two, it's too difficult to be a pre-med course. And of course you want to go to a great medical school, which requires very high grades, hence I would suggest taking a relatively more medicine-school-oriented course like MedTech, Biology, or Psychology. I could be wrong, but this is my opinion. :)
