Working in 2nd grade and we say 10 is a friendly number. Also love that your setting the foundation for expanded form!

I am sooo excited to teach my littles how to count 10 and up now! How you explained it makes total sense…. I too will be reading; “Bear says Thanks” next week for our read aloud… Your coffee filter turkeys look soooo beautiful…. The paint sticks you got are awesome! We use them in my classroom once in awhile (come to think about it we need to use them more often 😂) and the kiddos love them - the projects dry so fast…. Have a wonderful weekend… 😍

We have so many leaning walkthroughs with admin and ISS’s coming in that when the formal observation comes the kids are used to people walking in. ❤️ how you did the 10 and some more. Love the cubes. More home life please. Have a great weekend

In eureka the kids count the say ten way. It helps them when they get up to adding in the standard algorithm. Literally one of my favorite aspects of eureka math. The first time I taught it, I was like why are we doing this. Then we got to standard algorithm and I could easily say,ok ten and two. Carry the ten, leave behind the ones

I always called ten the "buddy number." I always had them say, "Ten is my buddy, ten is my pal.".... It's a quote from Little Rascals. 😂

Its so interesting to see the same math concepts being taught in different countries. In Germany we call the numbers that add up to a 10 "numbers that are in love" 🙂 so for example we say "8 is in love 2 because it adds up to 10" and the other way around. So when we expand the range of numbers for addition, we always go back to our "numbers that are in love" when the children have to solve problems like 27+__=100. Just thought I'd share that 😊

@@MrsCallsCampers I've heard them called "friendly numbers". When adding two digits make a friendly number and then add on to 10. I love hearing all your ideas. I'm new to second so I'm absorbing how you teach to help my low class.

@@MrsCallsCampers Yes, it's a widespread term for these numbers. The majority of math textbooks use the term as well as the national curriculum. I even made a RU-vid video for my first graders while we were in lockdown. I enjoy your weekly videos and hope you enjoyed your long weekend. Thanks for the fun ideas you shared. We will be reading Turkey Trouble this week.... need to get it done before the month is over. It's going by so quickly!! I have so many fun books to read in December. How far in advance do you start planning your read alouds and do you read one a week or do you read more, but just do more with the one story? Also, what math curriculum are you using? Hope you have a great week.

December is right around the corner 😭😭😭 We do one read aloud a week but will read other books! Sometimes I have them all planned out for the month and sometimes I'm not sure til the week before :) Math curriculum is McGraw Hill's My Math but I don't teach it like the curriculum. I do use some of the pages though! Thank you so much!!!

How do you get access to the wonders book online? I was able to do that with my math curriculum and it was the best because I could screenshot the pages and work with them on the board. But I don’t know how to access Wonders online.
