I finally, FINALLY, got around to putting the parts for my home automation light switches up on the new SuperHouse online store. I thought it would be easy: just put up four products, with 1, 2, 3, or 4 buttons. But then I realised that Australian wall plates don't suit many people, so I have to make them available as kits to fit into different types of wall plates. Then I realised that people may want different colour buttons, so I have to separate the breakouts from the buttons.
So it got complicated.
Oh well.

I've really been enjoying learning from your channel. I look forward to many more videos! This is my favourite home automation channel. I hope to be able to do the same to my own home one day.

Thanks for posting! I can't wait to get some in. I tried to make an order and had an error on the site. Sent you an email this evening, let me know if you need anymore info and testing done!

Thanks! I was wondering about a board shown in another video but not talked about much. You showed your evolution of switches and there was one with a relay and I believe a POE board of some type. This would be the best case scenario for a retrofit here in the states where the wall switch does not have Neutral available. Can you talk about that board? Will it be available?

Looks great! Any plans for zwave or zigbee integration?

Hello Jonathan I watched many of your videos by now, and I just wondered if it would make sense to use something like old IDE / ATA / ATAPI (Hard Drive) Hot Swap Rack Enclosures for your Modules. That way you can work with the same type of cable You used for Your RJ45 Shields for the Light Switches, and also be able to quickly pull out a faulty module with its tray and replace it. Also I guess it would open up new possibilities for organizing your whole setup in the rack. I built myself a similar thing with old external IDE Drive enclosures and the 40 / 80pin cable You can easily create a shield that can then make all the arduino pins available throught the IDE / ATA connector. I personally use it for different Arduinos I use in different projets. Just pull out the tray, lift the Arduino from the shield, put another one in, and slide the tray back in the enclosure. The arduino is nicely protected and in my case even cooled, and I still have all the pins available on the back of the case. I also use the 4 Pin Molex for 12V Power if necessary. Just an idea, but who knows, maybe it helps. Best regards and thanks for the great content.

Hi Jonathan. I still have extensive X10 modules installed through my house but cannot find software anywhere to operate it anymore so I am looking for a replacement system, probably Zwave or Zigbee. I already have neutrals available at all switches. My question to you is how do you dim your lights with your system? The one thing I still like about my old X10 modules is being able to hold down the momentary switch and dim up or down. Good luck with your new enterprise.

Hi Johnthan , I am learning a lot for your videos, have you have plans to do the relay controller aswell as you did for switch controller ??

That's awesome. When you introduced your products page a few weeks ago I went specifically for that. Good to see/hear. (I hate it when people add a but, sorry), but from memory your light switch "light" is a single fixed colour. I was planning to have a similar unit and be able to use the light as a status display. I realise the design of these precludes that as a possibility, but do you have any ideas/suggestions on how to incorporate something? This is more for switches that control outside or unseen devices

I have a plan for that! This is still a secret (shhhhh) but while I was in China I met up with the factory that makes the illuminated buttons, and arranged for them to make a customised batch for me with RGB LEDs instead of a single colour. They've just finished them, and they'll be landing here in Australia in about a week. My plan is to do a more complex version of the light switch that will include a microcontroller to manage the illumination. This will give a few possibilities, such as allowing the colour of the switches to be set arbitrarily using a colour wheel or some other kind of colour selector. It could also allow status to be displayed with different colours. My plan is to make these more complex switches pin-compatible with the current simple switches, so that they're interchangeable and can work with the same central controller. They'd just have more features.

That's awesome. I've always struggled with automated house lights that don't have physical switches and annoyed that there's nothing retro-fitable. (I know it's not generally possible). I bought a whole heap of blank plates and those same buttons you have but wasn't happy with an underlying tech. Then the arduino came out, then the esp8266... and now sonoff. Now the possibilities are endless. Thanks for the heads up

Hi, i was wondering do both the I/O breakout shield and the I/O breakout shield mega work with the UNO style boards?

That white shirt @3:38 watching over the shoulders is pretty scary, but I guess this is not a problem because judging by the plastic seats the operators are seated I think is only a matter of minutes work

Great idea to offer different colors - is there also a RGB version available? This could also be used for signaling different system statuses etc. Have a successful week! - pflegefuermaenner.de
