The 3M Xtract Sandpaper isn't gunna work very good without good dust collection. Ive also used them for hand sanding in a pinch and was also unimpressed with them, they collect a lot of dust without active dust removal, all those holes just end up blocked up and ruining their performance. I just stocked up on regular paper for hand sanding, will keep the xtract for my orbital sander in which they really do work incredibly well when used with my shopvac. I've also got the Narex Richter chisels and find them to be great, though I admit the thought of a good set of Japanese chisels is enticing.
Yeah, I do agree with you, maybe I'm just comparing to other discs that work equally well in both situations. I have as you say stocked up on some 3m sheets, which work extremely well, and is good advice from yourself 👍 I have heard good reports about the narex. I'm really leaning towards the Japanese chisels. I just need to make sure it's the right choice, I'm looking at £200 upwards for a set. A good investment if I like them 😂
