ABOUT ME
My name is Kian (23), I have a quirky sense of humour, and my favourite organ is the kidney (who makes regular appearances in my videos).
Should all things go according to plan I will be graduating with my MD come 2022! My goal with this channel is to share the RAW and REALISTIC parts of being a medical student through my personal experience to better inform people who are interested in medical school...or at least make you smile
I'm still learning how to make videos and I look forward to seeing how this channel IMPROVES and EVOLVES. Constructive feedback always welcome!

I agree with you that there is a fine line between being productive and motivating people on youtube vs toxic productivity. Something I think about a lot as well. Thank you for bringing awareness to this topic. Love that you're showing us a REAL week in your life🙌❤

Student guilt was one of the most reasons why I couldn't study well during college..I wasn't studying..I felt guilty and stressed out which lead to anxiety that didn't allow me to study and the cycle continues

I needed this!!! I just finished orientation and start classes Monday but I’m already feeling the study guilt for not getting ahead. This is so reassuring!!!

Lately, I have been having the same issue and it kind of led me to be in a mild depression-like state because of not studying when I should be. I have been working constantly which I am grateful for and I came to a realization that its the environment that's my biggest challenge. My family has been so accomodating by creating a little nook for me for studying but its just so hard to get in that study zone. Although I have been tuning into your study sessions to keep me disciplined, I can't get past 2 hours. Hopefully, I can get myself together before the school year starts back up soon but I am entirely grateful for those study sessions at least for an hour or so I got to review a little something. A little is better than none. Sorry for this long-ass comment lol.

This is totally normal. It definitely becomes a vicious cycle. It’s great that you have your family’s support. If you find 2 hours is your max then work with that. Just because some people can go 4,5,6 hours at a time doesn’t mean you have to. Maybe you can make schedules where you do 1.5-2hrs of study then take a break, do something for yourself and do it again when you’re refreshed. You’ll figure it out and you’ll do amazing. Everyone is different :)

after 30 mins the brains stops focusing that well and that's when you need to take a 15 min break, and then get back to studying, it's not worth studying for hours without a break because u will forget it anyway, always take a break it will make studying easier :)

Benjamin Palur completely agree! Somedays I could do 2-3 hours, other times maybe only 30 🤷🏼‍♂️ breaks are essential

Thank you for sharing, Kian! The pressure to do more and work more extends even into residency, and it really is a struggle not to feel guilty about being unproductive. After my 12 hour shifts, it's really hard to not just lie down and stare into oblivion, but it happens. Life does that to us sometimes. thank you for keeping it real.

Thank you for showing the ups and downs of studying through your vlogs. I’m studying to get into undergraduate medicine here in Australia and am already struggling with productivity guilt causing a lot of self doubt so thank you for showing that we are not alone in this. A balance between study and life is so difficult and the way you portray it in your videos is really inspiring so thank you!

KIAN! I really needed to hear this especially today! I definitely link productivity and how much school work I get done with my overall sense of self. I have been down in the dumps about it especially on days that I don’t feel super great and can’t quite put my focus on studying.

Kian, THANK YOU so much for this! I'm a new SMP student and our year simulates the 1st semester of our school's COM and I felt horrible about myself for not being productive enough. Thank you for being human!

You guys I needed this so much!! It literally got recommended but it's exactly what I wanted to watch. There are times when I feel so down cuz of taking time off and just hanging out, but I'm working on it. Glad I'm not alone though

Love this video and its message. Definatly need to realise there are other things in life that sometimes take priority. Also takes willpower and strength to make yourself have weekends off. 👍💪

Productivity tied to self worth is a good thing. Productivity is demonstrating that you are capable of living in this world. Something as small as doing the dishes has been shown to help people that are suffering from depression because we as humans need to recognize the little things we do are efficacious. Sometimes people have a definition of productivity that is unrealistic and inherently counter-productive (like working without sleep consistently...like no sleep). If that is the case make your concept of productivity objective and based on your skill level.

I think we all struggle with ourselves in med school.. about productivity, not sleeping... and it's hard but the good think is that we can share it.. in that way we are not alone... let's keep working to follow our goals...

I believe that procrastination happens when you feel like there's too much to handle. So in the grand scheme, remind yourself why you are taking the course you're taking. Build up small study habits and set goals weekly. If you feel like you should take a break from studying, it's fine. If it feels like work, take a break. The small steps you take, even just reading a day, will be a huge progress overall. It's just a matter of habit! Also prep yourself before you're studying, maybe read your notes or have a talk about a certain topic of your subject. Anything that will make you interested and that will keep you focus when you're studying. Remember, that learning itself is a beautiful process and it takes time.

P/S: Studying longer per day doesn't mean you're studying "well". Remember that as long as you understand the context deeply, remember the key points and are overall curious, then you have STUDIED well. It can take as short as an hour or 5 hours. Depends on the person.

Not to mention, you need to have two different yet vital techniques. One is studying to understand the context, second is preparing for your exams. Both are very different but correlates.

@@saesheridan838 Yes, this is the thing - the preparation process is def different coz a test isn't going to cover everything or actually test how well you've actually learned in many cases. It's good to have test-taking skills but it doesn't always indicate one has actually grasped all the concepts or learned well.

Hey sis i have teeth gap in my front teeth i am worrying that what if they increase gap when i become adult i am 14 now i don't want to use braces also i think it will be hurt can i stop this or can i fix it later if they're increasing more but the way right now is fine i think i am worrying about this 😁

Dude I’m literally on the same boat. I had corona so I couldn’t really study for a while and then the isolation just got to me. Now I have two midterms next week and I’m fully freaking out, but slowly getting back into the habit of studying has actually been quite nice. I think the trick is just to start, forget about the million things you have to do, and just pick one, start it and pretend like you’re on track. Eventually doing one thing at a time adds up and you’ll feel so much better. We can do this!!!

i have have the best trick ever for you honey .. when u go to the trash don't use your hand to smack the sifter .. you simply flip the sifter and bump his holder with the edge of the trash bascette and the coffee will simply fall of . easy and no ysing of you hand
