Love the video Phillip, but can you please keep sound constant between B roll and your actual voiceover. I was constantly adjusting the volume. That would be super awesome! ;)
Great VLOG. I am really enjoying the series. I am building out my Tikka with a Manners Stock and a Proof Barrel. Great watching someone else's build and learning from my own mistakes.
interesting watching this series. i picked up my new custom 6.5 creedmoor about a month ago. i shot my 1st match here in the UK (PRSUK) and it was so fricking good. i did pretty good got bang on half way in the leaderboard when turning up on the 1st day of shooting with 35 rounds down the barrel. no speeds or dope. just winging it. managed to get some speeds and dope 1st thing. got a 1st round impact at 1000y which is so satisfying. hearing the ring come back after like 3 seconds is still amazing
Ok, just joined, 7 series behind I believe, just interested in the whole thing, also just swapped out my Bergara Hunter 6.5CM for a Tikka T3X A1 that I'll collect on my next swing , looking forward to cramming the vlog over the weekend
The Harris 9-13" bipodsare a good starting point, I've been running mine for a couple years and love them, I'd like to upgrade in the future but the Harris bipods work very well
Great video, Phil! Concur with the need to balance music levels with voice. Had to adjust constantly up for voice and then way down for music intervals. My .260 CTR is also very accurate and very slow.
Great VLOG and I sub’s. I just ordered the stainless 20” 6.5 CM CTR to run suppressed for a hunting rifle. I own several Tikkas and the only thing I do is swap to the Mountain Tactical trigger spring. I’m excited for the CTR.
I have your same setup except the 24 inch barrel. I was doing loads on it and the velocity with h4350 powder is 100+fps slower than the berger hunting vld 140gr manual said it should be. I learned recently that maybe tikka barrels run slow.
Another great video. Excited to see the results of your 1-2 days of tests in the off-the-shelf stock (thanks for doing that!). Then looking forward to seeing how it improves in the KRG. Great series!
Thank You for this info. Appreciate your time line as I save up to a few years for my kit. Side bar love the music but it’s hard to hear your voice only (without music) as the volume is much lower then the music tracks
This is freaking spectacular! Learning a heap and love knowing my Tikka is more than capable of reaching out with the fundamentals sorted. Thanks again so much for putting this together!👊👊🤙🤙
Hi from the UK, enjoyed the video, did you clean the barrel at all, noted you saying that you've fired 40 rounds through the new barrel, but no mention of cleaning it.?.
how are the bolt throw and smoothness compare between the two? Also the accuracy? I used to own a Tac A1. Now want to get a Bergara BMP so lots of leftover fund for optics and ammo (hopefully)
@@kramotakra The TIkka is extremely accurate, out of the box. The bolt is smooth and works well. To be fair, I've only about 250 rounds with the Tikka but it has stretched out to 1000 yds with ease. I have a Bushnell XRS II 4.5-30x50 on it and that scope makes the whole unit function to boredom. My only concern is calling wind. The Bergara was placed onto an MPA chassis and I am still working on which ammo runs best. so far I'm getting good groups with 130 gr. S & B, much to many's chagrin. The bolt operates without any concern, or even notice from me. Of the two, my go to is the Tikka for LRP. My hope is to get the Bergara running optimal for mid-range F-Class. I have no doubts that this will happen. One thing, the Tikka comes with a muzzle brake and my shooting see a benefit from that. Wheras, the Bergara, while threaded, will need an additional purchase. I am finding the Bergara's accuracy more challenging with no muzzle device. But that is definitely my ability and not the rifle's. That is something to be tested in the near future.
I just had my 20" CTR out this weekend and using 140ELDM I was seeing 2553 average MV and standard deviation of 21.59. I have about 50 rounds through it so similar bore condition as yours. Keep up the awesome work man!
The deviation is a little higher than I would like. I want to get more practice in, but I can't find any ammo right now to feed it that isn't $2.50/rnd
@@johnrodabaugh4887 I just got a Tikka t3x Upr 20in 6.5. Looking forward to getting more into it. Any tips. I'm terrible with math but my scope is mill.
man i wish my new t3x tac a1 cycles as smooth as that. the lock up is still stiff, but not sure if its because ive only had a handful of rounds through it.
Nice video Philip! Tikka factory trigger can be adjusted to around 0.9-1 kg (2-2.2 lb), with $5 you can change a spring and go lower to 500 grams ( 1lbs).
@@InstinctiveFirearmReviews yodave is the most popular. It’s only 10$. It’s one of the greatest thing about the tikkas! World class trigger for 10$…..🤟🏻
I've got a built CTR.260 w/ a Krieger barrel, McMillan stock and have a CTR 6.5 creed 24"ss on order for my son, great shooters. What state are you shooting in looks like AZ, NM or UT.
0420.... must be your birthday?!? Haha.... I bought a Tikka T3 light about 10 years ago for 600$ in 270 WSM. Killed lots of pigs at all ranges. It started collecting dust after I got in .284 calibers but a year ago after staring at it I decided to rebuild that gun. I bought a Proof Research pre-fit barrel chambered in 6.5 PRC and put it in a Carbon Game Warden Mcmillan stock. Initial results were right at 1/2” but then I bedded the stock and now it shoots 1/4” all day long. I have a Leupold VX-6HD 3-18-50 on it (22 Oz). Total weight hunting rig 8.5 lbs. I may or may not have gotten a sweet Vet discount on the barrel and stock. Very affordable build that will old it’s own with any 3-6k$ gun! Still running factory Tikka bottom metal (plastic) and factory trigger.
Have run a CTR in a German Gun Stock and a TAC A1, both 20" .308, for about 2 years now. Absolutely phenomenal rifles, .5moa with FGMM on the high end of consistency, and would definitely recommend either. I did have to tinker with all 6 of my mags to get them to feed properly, and am not sure if Tikka has fixed that issue yet or not(nothing major just had to bend the release catch a bit). Was worse in the CTR than the TAC for whatever reason. Have only shot an HMR once, in .308, and it is definitely an excellent rifle. What i would say is, the CTR stock is just not even remotely close to the quality of the Bergara stock, but the trigger in the Tikka needs nothing other than a $15 yodave spring to be fantastic(~1.2lb and crisp as anything, other than top tier aftermarket), where the Bergara trigger is imo mediocre. The action and feeding is smoother on the Tikka, but it is exceptional, and the Bergara is still plenty good. Was impressed enough with the Bergara that i just ordered the B14r carbon(.22lr) to try out, if that means much. IMO, the Tikka is the better choice if you are willing to put more money into a proper stock, the Bergara is the better choice if you arent. Unless you are just hunting, then the CTR stock is fine.
It is good to remember that factory ammo velocity is not allways correct. There is marketing things happening ( longer barrell etc.) 6.5 cal is good for beginner , but actially it is small caliber for long range shooting ( low energy , wind drift ) I would say max. 700 yards. There is much better cal.over 1000 yards.
Whoever the guy is that used duct tape to build up his cheek piece is my new best friend. That’s the kind of s**t I do. If history repeats itself, Phil is probably rolling his eyes at me right now.
Curious why not Bergara? I know @LowLight likes Tikka, but Bergara has 1MOA guarantee and is usually 3/4 to 1/2 and it's REM compatible for barrels, stocks, triggers.
very nice vlog - but its super annoying when the musicvolume is 100 and the speakingvolume is 15......... Especially when you watch it with headphones.
You use the term "budget" setup but your scope is anything but low cost. ... and the only Gucci gear is the "gamechanger" ... I would have liked to see how you got from 2700 fps to your true velocity. Where was the teaching part? We just watched you shoot. Maybe next time...
Lots of small little nuggets of information passed in there, you just have to listen for it. 1000 optic compared to 3-4K glass that I’m used to running, is pretty budget.
You gota fix the volume on that music ,you’re just blasting my ears out .Can’t hear you when you’re talking ,turn the volume up,then blasted by the music
