So happy I found your channel! ❤ I don't know a lot of people personally who are in or interested in I/O do finding your video was very motivating and refreshing! 😊😊
I really like how you describe I-O psychologists as 'problem solvers' because sometimes I'm so mired in the minutiae of grad school assignments that I forget the bigger picture of why I chose this field...I want to make work life better for other low income people and minorities by changing the standard of how businesses operate and treat employees. "why can't I keep dishwashers at my small family-owned restaurant?", "well Susan, you treat them like garbage, don't properly train them, don't allow them to take their state-mandated break, and don't outline job expectations, but still yell at them when they don't meet your unexpressed expectations".
I'm currently a senior in high school and I've been considering I/O psych for some time now. there's not much information on this field online, but this video really helped a lot to give me insight :) thanks!
Currently doing my undergrad. Like you, I was considering counselling but it just didn't feel right. When I discovered I/O Psych I knew it was for me but I am not naturally skilled in math. Do you think I'll be okay with the right amount of hard work?
Great video. I'm a year into grad school and thinking about switching to I/O Psychology. I was also thinking about counseling but now I'm thinking about going the I/O route for now. I would still like to pursue a career in clinical psychology and eventually get my PsyD. Where are you currently in your I/O career?
I thought I wanted to major in school counseling but now I'm having second thoughts. I'm currently taking an I/O class and I'm thinking about going to grad school for I/O. Can you make more videos on I/O psychology??
Thank you for this video! 👏🏼 I’m currently completing a PsyD in I/O psychology. What kind of roles do you apply for within this field? Human Resources? What is the best way to gain beginner level experience in this field? Please help me with this as I’m having a hard time finding a role!
What classes do you recommend for I/O psychology I’m getting my bachelors majoring in psyc but I’m torn if I should take some more business or such possibly
Kingfckn Cole As long as you take classes relevant/similar to IO (such as stats, research methods, IO like courses) you should be fine. Taking business courses could help your understanding of certain things but it is not 100% necessary. Take them if you want/can.
Hello I’m currently reading for a law degree but I’m considering getting a masters degree in IO psychology. What are your thoughts on pursuing IO psych with a purely legal background??? What are some of my options ?
Great idea, some I/O psychologist work directly with lawyers because the work we do has legal implications such as validating selection instruments. There are some programs that offer dual degrees in law and IO
@@JessicaJane4 1.This is more of a personal doubt. What is the actual difference between Occupational psychology and Organisational psychology. I know for a fact they both are almost the same. But I see colleges offering course in the name " Occupational and organisational psychology" and some are just "occupational" or "organisational". In this should I focus more on course work alone or both course name and its course work. 2.What is the actual second step of becoming a chartered occupational psychologist.
@@priyadharshini7423 If you mean occupational health psychology that is more focused on health and safety of workers while organizational psychology is used to solve workplace problems and etc. Occupational health is a focus area in IO psych in which one can become specialized in.
@@JessicaJane4 Oh okay..So basically occupational comes under organisation and people can specialize if they prefer to do so,I hope that is what you meant Thank you :)
Varies, all about how you negotiate it. But normally at masters you can expect to start around 60-70, while PhD 90-100. But like I said this varies and is highly dependent on the person/negotiation skills.
What school are you doing your PhD through? & how do I find a job right away in doing IO ? I have a jet setter mind set like you and I want to work with organizations and not so much clients/customers one on one
Hope Sipp Saint Louis University, finding a job can be done through networking, employment resources (such as indeed), and possibly internships turn into full time positions.
I recently graduated with my bachelors and I'm wanting to go into IO for consulting as well, but I have no idea where to go with the degree after completing a program. Could you share your knowledge on how to get into consulting after completing your degree? Everything you said of why you chose IO is exactly what I have been thinking, so I really really really enjoyed your video!
I think when you are coming in with a bachelors it would be wise to build up your social connections to get in the door. All it takes is knowing the right people and the right opportunity. One of my professors told me while she was in grad school she would attend social events, set up a booth, and explain what she can do without charging high prices. That could be a could starting place for you.
Loved this video! I’m pretty set on going into a masters program for io psychology. My mom is convinced that I would just be a glorified HR rep and would only be looking out for managements interest. Have you encountered anything or anyone that gave you this impression?
