That's how it's supposed to be, The way I see it, is the task itself should be easy and smooth so you can concentrate on the music and not be bogged down in the technical side of things
A lot of great and useful information here Jon. I haven't seen a video on Newtime yet, which could prove useful for solving timing issues. For this one, a before and after comparison would've made this great tutorial even better.
Check out automation step editing mode. SHIFT+clicks will then add automation points of type Hold. And, if Snap is set to other than None, ALT will disable snapping.
Thanks! One thing I'm really curious of is if Hold has a very small fade built into it. It seems like it might because it doesn't have nearly the pops/clicks that pro tools has when automating.
@@jonaudio i think that automation updates the target at the rate of project PPQ. Smoothing can be set in either the Controller Link dialog, or the target parameter has smoothing handled within the plugin. An IL official recently said, somewhere on the forum, that Fruity Balance doesn't apply smoothing internally. To know for sure, one could bounce down something like a sine tone with dramatic volume automation of Hold style. Open the render in an audio editor and look to see if there are ramps, or significant jumps in values between sample points. i did a steppy Fruity Balance volume automation on a test tone and found there were pops. Pops are possible with one or two milliseconds' worth of smoothing, so visual analysis of the waveform would be conclusive.
Addenda: i just now performed the visual test. There is indeed a ramp on Fruity Balance volume change automated by points of type Hold. It seems to be longer for larger volume jumps.
Thank you so much for looking into that!!! I really appreciate you doing that. That's good to hear because Hold is such a convenient automation type and since it has fades, it makes the work flow that much faster!
@@jonaudio My pleasure, glad to repay the learning i've sourced from your channel. In the case of this video, i learned a huge quality of life aid. Specifically, how to create a point on a line!
Man very helpful tutorial but can you help me, when i press shift and right click the level of the whole automation goes up or down, how can i fix this .. this shortkey don,t work for me
Yep it sure can be, but the more and more you do, you get faster and better at it and doesn't really feel that tedious and sometimes can be fun getting the vocal to sit exactly where you want it thru the entire track
yo, the thing you do with pressing shift, riht clicking and and then drag two points at the same time dosent work for me! Please tell me why! Amazing video btw.
you're very welcome! So basically once you have your gain stages set, this happens afterwards because we're putting fruity balance on the insert and automating the gain knob there. Usually if you have an EQ and a compressor on the inserts before fruity balance, most of the track should be in the ball park, then once you get to automating the gain knob of fruity balance, it shouldn't be huge moves, but rather keeping the vocal sitting right where you want it.
You'll get a quicker result for sure, but using automation and compression together, you'll get a much better and more precise result without having to let the compressor to the entire work
Yep it gives more accurate results and let's you decide how much signal you want to push into the Compressor. I mix this way for lots of different track and not such vocals. It gives lots of control and to get everything balanced exactly how you want it. Lets say you want a cool guitar lick pushed a little more in the mix than other stuff, this is perfect for that occasion
Sounds good and all but how do you get past your stupid knobs running to full volume every time you touch literally anything outside the mixer... only to not respond to literally anything the way yours does... despite doing it really stupid slow... Or did 21 chance everything?
Using a limiter would get you close but if you do it by hand like this, you'll get a better result since you're not relying on an automatic process. Also limiters and Compressors sometimes won't catch everything so it's nice to do it by hand first and then run it into a Compressor for the finishing touches
Damn...this some top secret area 51 shit...too bad fl 21 came out with its easier process. Wish I knew this from when I cracked....I mean bought fl....lmao!😂😂😂😂
Which "easier process" are you reffering to? Link pls, because I thought this was genius but if there's something newer now then I want to know. Imagine if FL had some built in like what Nectar 4 and Waves Vocal Rider do.
