In this video, I react for the first time to the British band Sleep Token performing “Chokehold”. I analyze their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate Vessel's vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. This is an amazing tune and I am so glad I finally reacted to it!

The best thing about Sleeping token isn't the instruments, the vocals, the drums, the solos, the weirdass noises, but I think it 's how well everything just becomes a cohesive ear feast. Its reminds me of a sandwich more than a soup, I don't know if it makes sense

In my opinion, Will Ramos' version is an emotional atom bomb and is certainly no worse than the original, if not better(sorry Vesell).

That grating sound at the beginning sounds a lot like an old Hammond B3 through a distortion pedal. Jon Lord from Deep Purple used to run his B3 through a Marshall stack.

I've been waiting for someone like Lolli to do a breakdown of Take me Back to Eden or Ascensionism because of how dynamic those songs are. Would probably be a long video but I love the way she breaks down songs, I've learned so much. We are 1 step closer.

Yes, he makes you feel things. He is everything (a singer should be) and we all love him. His little (or big) breaths, his breath & voice control are next level. Every song takes you on a journey and you never know where you will end up. He is truly brilliant, so unique, and insanely talented. And what an amazing storyteller he is! They are my favorite band in the whole world and I have listened to every single song of theirs so many times, but your reactions still add another layer and help me understand why their music hits as hard as it does. They just played Wembley Arena for the first time, and Vessel's voice went. So they asked the audience to step in and continued playing.there are YT videos of it. There is also an equally brilliant cover by Will Ros of Lorna Shore.

That's unfortunate, but it doesn't surprise me. Vessel oftentimes throws himself so far into his live performances that he starts crying or or wears himself and has to rest for a bit. Hope he's ok.

Sleep Token are a great band and this was a great first choice! The gnarly start does sound very foreboding, minor 2nds like Psycho! His voice reminds me a lot of Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam). The lyrics are quite dark, but interesting! Glad you liked it, I always ❤how analytical you are about songs and demonstrate the techniques it’s so interesting.

I know I’m a year late to this or whatever, but When you were talking about how he has to keep his mouth open and everything it hit me that he covers ALL of his face except his mouth and it actually reminds me of the Mouth of Sauron in the extended Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The visual performative look of him and how he sings work together to present a character. It’s so interesting.

2:52 they where definitely sticking to the metre from the very beginning. His singing and the instrument changing notes are totally in line with that metre.

I rarely subscribe to reactors. Typically boring “oh wow” bs to get paid “reacting” to someone else’s work. I just recently discovered Sleep Token and, you know, RU-vid rabbit hole…here I am subscribing to your channel. I watched, I think this was the 3rd, and you got me. Wasn’t the awesome breakdowns of the style, cords, reenactments of vocal styles or any of that. It was your reaction to the very end of the song which was “bloody hell”. It’s been my reaction to every song I’ve listened to since discovering them. Amen.

Want to add that the “ feel things” is both accurate and hilarious. Why are they not on the radio?(other video)…they don’t fit the 3-4 min mold. Same reason not many tool songs are heard.If it doesn’t fit between commercials it’s not playable. Plus I love they’re blowing up in the modern way. Online…with zero knowing who the hell any of them are.

You mentioned you really enjoyed the drum work for the summoning. If you haven't seen it, a channel called Drumeo recently did an interview/session with the band's drummer II (first recorded interview any member has done). Might be worth checking out. Glad to see you're enjoying the band.
