I have a degree in vocal performance, and I am studying for a masters degree in voice pedagogy. Jeff Lynne is one of those geniuses who seems to have a knack for composing a great melody. My favorite artists aren't just my favorite because they can sing; some can't sing well at all but they are great musicians. They know how to create a melody and invoke emotion through their compositions. Some can do it with an instrument like Joe Satriani (Ten Words) and some could do it with their voice like Karen Carpenter or Eva Cassidy....Even Olivia Newton John's voice could be magical and, while she was a great singer, no doubt, Jeff Lynne helped her out with some great songs.
Who told you that you needed to sleep - it's like breathing, everybody says you need to do it, but you don't really know until you try going without, you know?
This is sooo helpful, you are amazing!! :) When you were talking about practicing singing the scale the song is in, how do you know what key the song is in if you've written the song yourself? Obviously you would know the chords but I'm usually not really sure whether it's major/minor/harmonic as I don't know that much music theory and take a more intuitive approach..

Nope the voice is pretty clean. Brad had a great voice. Rick Beatto did a deep dive on this song separating out the voice and you can hear there is no faking this.
