Vocal Coach/Musician Reacts: FLOOR JANSEN 'Alone' Cover - In Depth Analysis!

The piano is being played by Sir Joost van den Broek. He's played with her in After Forever, played and produced her band ReVamp, does a lot of work with Ayreon, and has produced the last 3 EPICA albums. This was in her home studio. I think her husband,Sabaton drummer Hannes van Dahl, is behind the camera. Heart's version is a cover itself, original by i-Ten in 1983.

The pianist is Joost van den Broek, the keyboardist from floor's former band After Forever and Ayreon! he is a brilliant producer and arranger!

This is probably my favorite of Floor's pandemic time covers. For many reasons, some of them personal in nature. ⛄❄👍

"Adagio" should be next as Floor pulls another technique out of her toolbox that we normally don't hear her use.

Imagine the undisputed Metal Queen Floor singing in honor of the all time greatest female rock singer Ann Wilson. ❤

As a pianist I LOVE how Floor's vocal fits in as another layer into the many layers of the piano in this arrangement. There are moments where piano arpeggios climb up above the vocal dynamically, but only on sustained notes in the vocal. It's a vocal feature, but the piano still gets to shine.

That was fun, seeing you enjoy the piano embellishments and patterns under the first half of the song. I guess many of us were thinking: just wait for the instrumental interlude! 😊

A really great cover by Floor Jansen of a fantastic Heart song. An iconic 80's track. I just received Floor Jansen's solo album today called Paragon.

I'm low-key a Heart fan from way back. This was an interesting take on the song. Floor has stylized it heavily here in a way that reminds me of Diva Dance from The Fifth Element. Her technique has transformed the song from power ballad to classical repertoire. Enjoyable! Great reaction, Nina!

Floored by Floor's covers. There's a few but one of my favs is Oblivion - M83 (cover by Floor Jansen). Stunning performance. I loved the original but Floor smashed it out of the park, so to speak. I love the fact that you give much credits to the piano player Joost van den Broek. The guy is underrated in most reaction video's . Never ever underestimate Joost van den Broek. The guy is a musical genius and the power behind a lot of big projects and highly successful bands. And him combining with Floor.. .Yes, we indeed are in heaven. No matter how many times I listen to this. Her cry let me cry. No escaping from it. 100% pure emotion driven straight into my heart. That's what Floor does. Whether it's a solo project, or Nightwish, or Ayreon, or Northward, or her former bands... It's her beautiful mind radiating outward. You can't fake that. It's genuine. A gift to mankind.

Hi Nina, great and fun reaction. You can't really go wrong with the solo performances of Floor. They are all great. Also great are her performances at Beste Zangers 2019 of song like Shallow, Mama, Phantom of the Opera (with Henk Poort) etc.etc. And as others said: the piano player on this recording is Joost van den Broek (pronunciation: Yoast vanden Brook). He is a great piano player and allround musician and producer, who worked with Floor in her previous bands, and also in "Ayreon". Now this Ayreon is a project by Arjen Lucassen that both Joost and Floor regularly work with. And they have lots of great musicians and singers(!). Her cover of "Is dit nou later" is also amazing! (Original by Stef Bos). You'll probably need a translation of the lyrics if you don't speak Dutch, but knowing what the song is about sure helps.

It's pretty cool getting to hear one the very favorite singers of my 60's cover one of the favorite singers of my 20's. Especially on such an awesome song.

One of my absolute favorite songs by heart always crank it when it comes on never knew that she did a cover of it. I’ll definitely have to look deeper and see what covers she actually has done because as a vocalist I love her so much.

Anne Wilson also did an incredible version of Unchained Melody. Her vocals brought tears to my eyes! I'd love to hear Miss Floor cover this old iconic song.

Floor's recent solo tour is also a great treasure. Personal favourite is "Face Your Demons", which is a song from her former band After Forever. It's also on her channel.

If I remember correctly, this was after Floor had suffered a bout of C-19. She was still recovering a little bit here but at least she still had her voice at all (some people are not so lucky). She did not have all the power here that I was used to hearing from her and she seemed a little bit too 'tight'. She has since recovered from it fully, not to worry.

The song is Swan Song (with the Chopin Prelude Live) by Lovebites. Their one guitarist is a world-class pianist as well. And their singer is excellent. Please listen to that great song.

I always love your reactions! Now that Floor is pretty pregnant I would really like to know how it affects your voice cos legit it seems to not bother her at all. And maybe other body changes like tonsils vs no tonsils, taller vs more petite people. I'm curious. I'm 6'1 & my lungs need a top & bottom X-ray to get them all in.
