Join Elizabeth Zharoff as she reacts to Dimash for the first time, and analyzes both the music and singing.
This is a video of a live performance during New Wave in Sochi, Russia during 2018. It was also the debut of Sinful Passion, and the original band to write and perform the song (A Studio) is on stage with Dimash.

I would really appreciate it if you would react to huahua's song. Here is one call Child. It is a covered song. It shows his vocal skill. To y'all complaining about the pausing and wanting to listen without interruption: Ever considered just going to watch the original video, which Elisabeth ALWAYS links in the description? Is that so hard? I for one am here exactly _because_ she's pausing and giving commentary within the concrete context.

AF 101ILLUSTRATOR35 I wholeheartedly support your request for a reaction to War and Peace! An absolutely beautiful song written by Dimash himself. The performance of this song from the concert in Ekaterinburg earlier this year is simply astounding (better than earlier performances from his concerts in China, he changed the arrangement). There is not much vocal acrobatics/fireworks there, but the tone, the feeling - sooooo beautiful. Dear Elizabeth, please, please react to it!

Love your reaction and your amazing analysis of this performance. A great bonus was that you recognized Igor Krutoy, giving Dimash the standing ovation!! Imagine the pressure Dimash had of having Mr. Krutoy in the audience. That's the first time most of us, < Dear>, got to see Igor. Soon after, He and Dimash gave us " The Love Of Tired Swans " ,"Mademoiselle Hyde", " Love is like a dream ", "Passione", "Know" and my favorite "Ogni Pietra" and the new masterpiece "Your Love"

What drives my obsession with this channel is the attention you give to some of these artists' character. The way you analyze his eye contact and posture at the end of the performance and relate it to his courtesy toward the band... As much as I would give anything to get your insight into music, I would give even more listen to you talk empathy and philosophy. You seem to just immediately assume the best in everyone in a world where so many people want to imagine the worst. We need more of this!

Loved your reaction and analysis! The original song is a solid pop ballad and there really was no precedent for transformation it went through to become this masterpiece. Much credit should be given to Dimash's friend and frequent collaborator, Erlan Bekchurin who arranged the piece. Dimash and Erlan want to use every opportunity to present Kazakh culture to the world so in 2018 they started to incorporate ethnic elements in songs, where appropriate.

@abigaellef.7180
@abigaellef.7180 4 года назад
For the ethnic part, you see after the whistle tone, it's a traditional Kazakh funeral tone. It is a tribute to the original singer of this song that died. That's why the presentator did a pun at the end that he would have a heart attack. I'll suggest to you to do researches about the songs that Dimash does because they almost always have a lot of meaning. For this kind of stuff there is Gloria Wu's channel with the Singer prestation. Some songs need that explanation before the performance. For example, Daididau, Late Automn (or Automn Strong) and Daybreak, need explanations. Daididau and Daybreak have, for me, the best performance at the Bastau concert. I'll recommend to watch the first part of explanation than the performance in Bastau.

The bit everyone is raving about (goat singing, glottal stops, whatever) was used by David Bowie and Brian Eno in their age old album "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts", in the song Regiment. They credited the style as Lebanese or Indian folk singing, and they mentioned Dunya Yusin or Yunis as the singer.

I love Dimash - I'm a huge fan. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts about the bleating followed by the 25 second section of the song, and whether it is pre-recorded/lipsynched. I've seen 4-5 different live performances of this song by Dimash, and while the other parts of the song always sound slightly different - the bleating and run sound exactly the same on each.

Thank you. I've listened/viewed 30 plus reaction videos to this recording, including a compilation in which the ending of this song is covered with 10 or more, additional reactions as well as some repeats. In al that, you are the first and only person to convey the seemingly impossible nature of the gliss, melisma, diverse styling and impossible length of what is turns out to be the final phrase. Whether a listener has singing background or not, I would think most of us took a huge breath at the end, having waited for him to do the same. It's so easy to celebrate him for a range most consider impossible. To hear the resonant power available throughout that range, the bottom of which has increased downward and grown in strength the last couple of years. Even on the lowest falsetto note, moving chromatically from head voice, his tone changes less than any counter tenor I've heard. We hear his flawless technique, his live performance improvs, and willingness to learn and perform in more languages (with feeling at appropriate places and feeling that sounds heart felt) than an opera soloist encounters in a career's worth of libretti. But this performance shows breath endurance as we understand the great castrati possessed. Only we have plenty of reasons to feel certain his male parts intact. When castrati, like superstar Farinelli, grew into adulthood without testosterone, their bones lacked hardening power. Limbs, and more importantly ribs, would grow abnormally long. Even today, most families see grandchildren as a form of immortality. Back then, bigger families were needed to provide sufficient labor to run farms and as insurance in support of aging grandparents. So many children died malformed at birth or during childhood from diseases without treatments. Whether a child wanted to sing or not, the decision to castrate was made with the counsel of maestros and master teachers. Parents would hear from experts first that their child could become the best but the means and commitment to fund training for thousands and thousands of hours had to be there. It was a bet but a castrati in operatic demand could take even large families out of poverty. A castrated boy breathing and sustaining breath during all that practicing caused ribs to further expand allowing lungs to grow large too. Dimash certainly put in those hours but his breath endurance didn't happen as a result of an unnatural trauma directed at his anatomy. I say too much in all formats but wanted to convey the breadth of thought that comes with this HUGE THANK YOU for your expert reaction.

Actually, Dimash made the arrangements to the A-Studio original to suit HIS voice. He is a composer and is doing a Master's in composing. This is one of my favourite songs. He threw the kitchen sink in: every bit of his musical GENIUS repertoire of techniques and voices into this song. In fact, I think it was the first time Igor Krutoy saw him sing live. Watch him give him a standing ovation. By the end of the song, Igor went backstage to talk to Dimash. The very NEXT DAY they met at Igor's house and started working together! (If I understood well). They love and admire each other. Their relationship has evolved beautifully. Now Igor composes songs for Dimash. Check out: "Your Love" written by Lara Fabian FOR DIMASH, Composed by Igor & Dimash, sang by Dimash. An AWESOME collaboration.

You might want to check out his 'Hello' (Lionel Richie, not Adele) performance for his throat magic.

On that end one breath fantastic run (the Angel's said - can man read the Holy Scriptures in one breath?) I have found that if you train yourself you can speak not only breathing out but while breathing in also. Essentially speaking, or in this case singing, in one breath. As your body is getting it's normal breathing pattern but your speech flow is continuous. It's a possiblity Damish has trained himself to do this. Bonl💕

That run was timed @ 23.94 seconds... and I'm not even near a singer status.

Most central asian ethnic groups can trace their origins to Mongol or Turkic tribes who have traditional music based on that specific type of bleating. I think he's actually working on a PhD in music atm so I assume Kazakh folk is a big part of that
