Ken, you were not the only one laughing (in disbelief) while watching this masterpiece! Those sopranos are really impressive, I couldn't believe it when Dan went higher and higher. By now we know of course he can do anything he wants, surpassing himself. Merry Christmas and thanks for all the great insights on vocal techniques and background info on the compositions.

I never appreciated this song until after I witnessed Dan's playful rendition. Thank you Ken for sharing with us! Like you stated, Dan performed this years & years ago. Wait til you hear his new song, O Holy Night. Right from the get go (a new & Glorious MORN) I was crying tears of love & joy. This was the 1st time of ever being touched by that song. Ken, I know we are already halfway through 2024 (😮), and I am finally watching this reaction video, but as a Star Wars fan, I absolutely love your sweater! Especially as I love Christmas/Solstice time, and have had more than my fill of Puritanical types who think it's okay to harsh on someone's "Christmas mellow."😁😁 That sweater is what I would pick if someone were to do a Star-Wars/Christmas Carol mashup on stage, and that sweater is what the Spirit of Christmas Present would wear for a costume. 😂

A day or two ago Dan put out a metal version by of O Holy Night- wild. You have such a lovely family and I wish you all a blessed holiday season. You’re around the same age of my baby daughter. Back in my misspent youth I spent a lot B of time in Vancouver. I had a good friend in a remote cabin in Blaine, Washington. We always got in trouble. I don’t know if it’s changed but in the late 60s/early 70s women couldn’t go in the front door of bars unless accompanied by a man. My female friend and I made a game of showing up in the gaslight district and boldly marching through the front doors. We got arrested twice. Just hassled, lectured, and let us go miles from our car. Ah, the folly of youth. At 74 I’m still prone to the outrageous. Cheri Quinn

Handel's Messiah and his Watermusic are both masterpieces. Absolutely regal. The Hallelujah Chorus always gives me chills and singing it in Choir (Soprano 1) when I was young was a thrill, but goodness it wore me out in a good way. Wasn't difficult to pick out Dan's Soprano section. Lol. Loved it.

Every time I watch this (and am astounded by the descants--I used to sing that!) I notice the different facial expressions of the choir members, fiddling with ear pieces, checking out the time, looking a bit bored...it's a hoot.

Just reminding you not to pass up Dan new masterpiece the by far is the most incredible version of Holy night you will hear the internet has exploded we are waiting even if it’s the first of the year it’s worth the wait

What we were told in high school chorus was that the king was so moved by the piece that he stood & as a result everyone else did too.

Thank you very much for your friendly manner, which enhances the radiance that Dan Vasc's incomprehensibly grandiose interpretations already give me. Music achieves so much. It can achieve, move and change so much. All you have to do is openly engage with it. Unfortunately, my grown-up children can't do that. I sent them two things during Advent: Nessun dorma, Adeste fideles and for New Year I have the Hallelujah "choir" ready. But everything that comes from me is not considered worthy of attention. Well, everyone chooses for themselves... I consider Dan to be a fantastic, authentic and self-determined artist who is or can be a role model for many with his clear attitude to thinking and acting for himself. I have great respect for all people who go their own way and don't allow themselves to be belittled. If this sets a precedent, and it will (!), our joint actions will create a different Earth. Let's let that radiance go around the world... I send warm greetings from Germany and wish all people of good will a glorious and exciting new year. PS: No earthly king would be sung about here, no, Jesus Christ. 😊

I don't know if this was Dan's intention, but the sound quality/echo makes me think of singing in a large stone church or cathedral (I was an alto with the Christ Church Cathedral choir in Dublin for 3 years, long, long ago and before that had sung with the Galway cathedral choir, a building with a significant time lag from one end to the other. Made life ... interesting.)

Handel's Messiah was originally written for Easter, right? And then it got appropriated for Christmas. I was really happy to see another Dan reaction from you this reason. REALLY hoping that you'll also react to his new video of "O Holy Night". I imagine that you would have some insightful insights about his and Victor the Guitar Nerd's performances. Merry Christmas! It started when queen Victoria stood up during the chorus.

I played clarinet for Handels Messiah four years in college. The director explained that the standing was because this is the part of the story when Christ is born and being celebrated. Singing hallelujah for his birth. It made sense, but is it not true? Great review and nice sweater!

I sang this in the church choir lo these many many years ago in the alto section. It brought me to the Throne of Heaven and still does. My brother sang the suprano, BEFORE his voice changed lol. Dan has me in total awe, and total jealousy as well. Thank you for sharing more about this amazing piece. It will always have a special place in my heart. I'm glad that is true for many of us.

I thought this was an Easter song. It says "he is risen" etc. And, the king is Jesus, not the current monarch.
