Jinjer are (so far) the only band who employ extreme vocals whose music I've spent actual money on. Tatiana drips integrity- I 100% *believe* her when she's up there doin her thang.... & that means I'm sold, to the point where they are my favourite current band. :)

She has said she can’t explain how she does it. She says she thinks of it like she has two different throats. Anyone coming into the comments to correct you should calm down. Love seeing you return to Jinjer, by the way! 😊

naw, this is spot on. I feel like that "2 throats" feeling suggests false cord growls.
@Fenthule
@Fenthule 2 года назад
I'm going to have to agree, two throats feels right. I can do her screams pretty much identically, and they definitely come from two distinct different places. that transition she does several times in this song is actually a lot of fun haha. It's like I'm switching the wind coming from my diaphragm from the back towards the front, but there's like a middle section where it achieves almost no sound, so you kinda have to learn to jump it? It's incredibly difficult to explain. I'm actually in the process of getting gear together to start recording audio and maybe eventually video, maybe I can try and explain it better then lol

I love Perennial! Always love Jinjer! I see others have said that Tatiana doesn't know how she does it. Thank you for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! Hope you'll keep trying more Jinjer songs, the band is fantastic, her singing incredible and I love her lyrics! ❤🖤🤘

Hey Sam, great reaction. I've become obsessed with Jinjer and another similar female-fronted metalcore band, Spiritbox, since I discovered them 3-4 months due to their fantastic songwriting and musicianship and the incredible vocals of both Tatiana from Jinjer and Courtney from Spiritbox. I haven't checked out your other videos yet, but if you don't get a chance to talk to Tatiana in person, you should check out the long interview that Elizabeth Zharoff did with her on her channel The Charismatic Voice. It's very interesting and because Elizabeth is also a vocal coach, she gets into some of the "nuts and bolts" of Tatiana's vocal technique. Plus, it lets you see what a nice person Tatiana is.

Love how great this video is for showing off the technical aspects of her skills both clean and growls. Some folks are suggesting Pit Of Consciousness in Kiev which focuses a bit more on her growls including her low growls which you haven't heard yet. As to volume, yeah usually growls tend not to be very loud per Mary Z for example it is mostly the mic giving the volume. Usually she's growling straight into the mic. But for example at the end when she's really pushing hard to finish as strong as possible she's holding the mic a few inches from her mouth.
@andersstromqvist2211
@andersstromqvist2211 2 года назад
many have tried both Beth Roars and the The Charismatic Voice have had interviews with Tatiana on youtube so she is no stranger to that. She always say that she does not know how she does it and that she just do it. And if she do not do it for a while she needs to relearn. But yeah she have many practice houers but do not know the mechanics. both those interviews are great and i higly reccomend them. I think you can se with many "growlers" that they adjust the volume with the mic placment keeping it close to the mouth with lower sounds and farther away when they are louder

Listen to the words, she is growing back from the ashes of her life. At the end that is her growing back like a tree, not a jellyfish. So, she is getting up from below the ground towering to the top all strong and proud. How do singer/dancers do both?? Practice.

Interestingly, Tatiana herself believes she has a limited time being able to scream before she wears her voice out with it. I find that interesting because literally every vocal coach who's ever watched her is convinced she's doing it in a very healthy way, and that she can make an entire career out of it easily. She's already done it for something like a decade, professionally.

A bit about false cord growls, though this is just a theory but it seems to explain things fairly well. The way you describe false cord growls with everything relaxed is definitely how some false cord growlers do it, for example Angela Gossow, and I'd recommend her iconic performance of Nemesis live in Tokyo for reference. However, Angela beeaks up her vocals so she only sings 2-5 syllables at a time, because that technique lets so much air blow through so fast. Also Angela's abbs look like a body builder's because she needs that physical power to blast as much air through her open false cords as possible. By contrast, Tatiana sounds like she's doing false cord growls and based on her saying she feels like she has "two throats" one for clean and one for harsh vocals this seems to back that up even though being self-taught she doesn't know exactly what she's doing or at least not how to articulate it. My suspicion is that she must be partly closing her false vocal cords or she wouldn't be able to get such long sustained growls, such as the long single growl at the end of Pit Of Consciousness live in Kiev. Though I wouldn't be shocked if she was using a combination of false cord and fry screams.

@travesty-studios
@travesty-studios 2 года назад
Some metal vocalists can do screams that sound like the other technique, it's hard to tell sometimes. I think vocalists that's generally use false chords, will mix in a fry, but not base their scream on the fry technique. Some vocalists do just use both Edit: false chords screams tend to be really loud, actually. Vocal fry screams usually don't hit as hard. I had a vocalist that didn't put much effort into his scream and he still had the ability to wake me up from a different room while recording in a (mostly) soundproofed room.
@impulse4079
@impulse4079 2 года назад
I believe her technique is some kind of personal spin on traditional false chord engagement. Her highs are with the same technique, with sometimes higher frequency to give the higher pitch. If I recall correctly, Tatiana doesn't find fry screaming easy and has trouble with it.

LOL you managed to pause almost every time at the junction of growls to cleans (or vice versa) and missed all of those moments except the one. Thankfully you did catch the best one and were able to comment on it, but I would suggest that you begin rewinding 10 seconds each time you pause so you don't continue to miss things like this.
