This song is actually not about the Wheeping Woman. This is an “istmeña” song, meaning that comes from Itsmo de Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. It is about a soldier that saw a beautiful woman coming out from church and that was wearing a traditional huipil. He courted her and they fell in love. They got married but he eventually had to go to war. Before going, he promised his wife that defying life and death he would come back to her. She promised that she was going to wait for him day and night. Besides the promises they both made, she was heart broken and cried heavily. That’s when he promised again: I will come back to you, “Mi Llorona”. He didn’t come back, he died in battle. But knowing that he was risking his life, he wrote a letter to his wife and it was later delivered by a mate soldier to La Llorona. In the letter he again promised they would be together again and from that letter is that the song is written. She never got married again. She would be back to him in life after death. It also represents life that misses and cries for the lost ones and death where the ones that left wait for their loved ones.

Aquí la tengo completa. History of the Zapotec Llorona. La llorona is a Zapotec song written and born in the Zapotec community of the isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. The story goes that a young man from Tehuantepec went to a party in the neighboring community called Juchitan and there he met such a beautiful girl who left the church wearing the famous Isthmian regional dress called huipil. For a time he strove to conquer the girl And then he got the approval of the parents and marry her. But the winds of revolution blew in Oaxaca (1911/1912) and before he went to war, he said something like this: "I remember the day we went to the river and the flowers of the field seemed to cry With you the clouds in my sky are nothing, even he only competes with your smile. The war is calling me because the Peace of our country has been stolen I will return to you and for our future family I will never stop loving you In this life and in death ”. Finally the day to leave came and when he said goodbye to her, tears ran through his eyes and sighs of pain invaded the face of his beloved. While he was talking to her, he took both her hands at the same time that he wiped her with hers, the tears that fell down his wife's cheeks and then he called her "crybaby" because of her she would not stop crying knowing that perhaps , she would not return to her husband. Kisses and promises flew through the air and I swear I would return for her from life and death with total impunity. She also expected him no matter what happened. Many people of the time knew the couple and were dismayed by them. The guy went to war but never came back. Some time later a mutual friend of theirs returned to town and told him: your husband was hit by bullets and the wounds were so terrible that it was impossible to save him. But while he was dying he asked me to tell you to always love you and to please forgive him. Here is a letter he gave me for you. Excerpts from that letter read something like this: You were leaving the temple one crying day when I saw you passing by You were wearing a beautiful huipil crying that the Virgin believed you In the sky the sun is born my crybaby and in the sea the moon is born and in my heart the crybaby is born Love you like no other Even if it costs me my crying life I will not stop loving you Oh my crybaby Llorona you are my xhunca They will ask me to stop loving you crybaby But of never loving you Do not think that I sing you crybaby I have a happy heart Crybaby is also sung of pain When you can't cry Do not cry dear pledge I will wait for you on the horizon every morning. Needless to say, she cried all the time for that letter and never remarried because she hoped to meet her loved one in paradise and fulfill her promise. Their baby was born a week after the news and every October 30 they dined together. A wife and a son in the land of the living and a husband from the realm of the dead, until the great eagle brings them together again. Time passed and the story was written as a local folkloric song and has survived all this time. Whoever says this song is about the deluded Aztec crybaby who drowned her children in the river is lying. La Llorona Zapotec is a love story, a sad love story.

Dear beth "La Llorona" is one of the saddest songs you can find. The rhythm of this piece is much, but much slower than what you just heard. It is not a sadness and despair and sorrow like that of Britten war requiem, this is more like when you exhale a silent crying, alone, throughout all night long. Read what the lyrics say and imagine yourself and your guitar singing this. Kisses from Mexico, I'm subscribed to your channel ... I adore your work! You came out of the temple one day, Llorona, I saw you when you passed, You came out of the temple one day, Llorona, I saw you when you passed, A beautiful dress you wore, Llorona, I thought you were the Virgin A beautiful dress you wore, Llorona, I thought you were the Virgin Everyone calls me 'the black', Llorona Black but loving Everyone calls me 'the black', Llorona Black but loving I am like the green chili pepper, Llorona spicy, but tasty I am like the green chili pepper, Llorona spicy, but tasty (What it is) sorrow and what is not sorrow, Llorona Everything is sorrow for me (What it is) sorrow and what is not sorrow, Llorona Everything is sorrow for me Yesterday I cried to see you, Llorona And Today I cry because I saw you Yesterday I cried to see you, Llorona And Today I cry because I saw you Alas, Llorona, Llorona, Llorona of sky-blue Alas, Llorona, Llorona, Llorona of sky-blue Although it costs me my life, Llorona I will not stop loving you Although it costs me my life, Llorona I will not stop loving you I climbed to the highest pine tree, Llorona, To see if I could spot you I climbed to the highest pine tree, Llorona, To see if I could spot you As the pine was so gentle, Llorona, At seeing me cry, it cried As the pine was so gentle, Llorona, At seeing me cry, it cried From the sea came a letter, Llorona, That the mermaid sent to me, From the sea came a letter, Llorona, That the mermaid sent to me, And in the letter she said to me, Llorona Whoever has love also has pain. Alas!, Llorona, Llorona, Llorona take me to the river, Alas!, Llorona, Llorona, Llorona take me to the river, Cover me with your shawl, Llorona Because I am dying of cold. Cover me with your shawl, Llorona Because I am dying of cold. They say that I don't mourn, Llorona Because they don't see me cry. They say that I don't mourn, Llorona Because they don't see me cry. I carry two kisses in my soul, Llorona, that will never leave me, I carry two kisses in my soul, Llorona, that will never leave me, The last one from my mother, Llorona, and the first one I gave to you. The last one from my mother, Llorona, and the first one I gave to you. Alas!, Llorona, Llorona, Llorona, take me to see, Alas!, Llorona, Llorona, Llorona, take me to see, The place where all love is forgotten, Llorona, and suffering begins. The place where all love is forgotten, Llorona, and suffering begins. Lift up your eyes and look, Llorona, There in the dark sky, Lift up your eyes and look, Llorona, There in the dark sky, a star that glares, Llorona, and sadly sighs, it's Venus that withdraws, Llorona jealous of your beauty. They say that the first love, Alas Llorona! is great and true, They say that the first love, Alas Llorona! is great and true, but the last love is better, Alas Llorona! and greater than the first. but the last love is better, Alas Llorona! and greater than the first. Don't think that because I sing, Alas Llorona!, my heart is joyful. Don't think that because I sing, Alas Llorona!, my heart is joyful. One also sings from pain, Alas Llorona!, When one can not cry! If because I love you, you want, Llorona, you want me to love you more. If because I love you, you want, Llorona, you want me to love you more. Very accurate review, from the youngest singer to Aida Cuevas (black belt in regional mexican music). You can feel how significance of the lyrics grows with each singer; each one has more evident experience singing as in life than the previous one by the way story telling develops through their voice and technique. This song is about the struggles, pain and a the acceptance of the final rest (death). Great review, not 100% focused on the technical side but taking in count the feelings this song provokes.

Okay so imma do my best to roughly translate the song. (Each verse is repeated twice) (Aguilar) you were leaving a Temple, Llorona, when I saw you walk by such beautiful Huipil (traditional Mexican garment) you had, Llorona, that I thought you were The Virgin (Mary) oh my, Llorona Llorona Llorona, of a lily field He who doesn’t know love, Llorona, doesn’t know suffering (Lafourcade) If, because I love you, Llorona, you want me to love you more If I’ve already given you my life, Llorona, what more do you want, do you want more? Oh my, Llorona, you’re my “Chunga” (I’m actually not sure what that means, it’s probably a regional expression.) They will take me away from loving you, Llorona, but from forgetting you, never (Aida Cuevas) I don’t know what the flowers have, Llorona, the flowers of the cemetery That when the wind moves them, Llorona, they look like they are crying Oh my, Llorona of light blue Even though life is hard, Llorona, I will never stop loving you Hope it helps

amazing how you pointed out the yodels, it is a tradition in Mexican folklore music vocalist. It's origins I suspect come from past Bavarian, German and Czech immigration to northern Mexico and Texas once porous regions. That part of European culture influenced that region, also the banda genre music in Mexico has origins with the polka. Many other things that they influenced also, there are also native German speakers in Texas that still speak the language.

A lot of ranchera and mariachi songs have yodels. So she is mimicking that traditional style (Angela) since she comes from a dynasty of very famous singers and actors. I like the 3 of them very much. Everyone with their own style but you can hear why Aida Cuevas is a legend :)

I will try to help you and try to traslate the most clear I can with the meaning of this BEAUTIFUL SONG!... 🇲🇽🖤🇲🇽🖤 🇲🇽🖤...ok... let´s do it... the song goes more or less like this: You left the temple one day "Llorona" (means weepy woman) when I saw you go by, you left the temple one day "Llorona" when I saw you go by Beautiful "huipil" ( means =typical costume from Oaxaca, Mexico) you wore, that the virgin I thought you were, Beautiful "huipil" you wore, that the virgin I thought you were. Oh Alas! "Llorona", "Llorona", "Llorona" of a lily field (means place with flowers where are the tombs/graves with dead ppl =cementery) Oh Alas! "Llorona", "Llorona", "Llorona" of a lily field He who does not know about loves "llorona" does not know what martyrdom is, He who does not know about loves "llorona" does not know what martyrdom is! I don't know what the flowers have, "Llorona" , the flowers of a holy field (cementery) , I don't know what the flowers have, "Llorona" , the flowers of a holy field, that when the wind moves them, "Llorona" it seems them be crying, that when the wind moves them, "Llorona" it seems them be crying, Oh Alas! "Llorona", "Llorona", "Llorona" Take me to the river Oh Alas! "Llorona", "Llorona", "Llorona" Take me to the river Cover me with your "rebozo" (means typical shawl) "Llorona" Because I'm freezing to death, Cover me with your "rebozo" "Llorona" Because I'm freezing to death! Cover me with your "rebozo" "Llorona" Because I'm freezing to death! .... In this video with Angela Aguilar is more clear even with images from the video the meaning... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h5z99EYHY4I.html Any person very sensitive even dont know spanish can feel this song and for that reason you could percive even without understand with words the meaning of the song, cause this song means about "death", I need to mention that The song has different versions because each version has ( + ) or ( - ) stanzas , it depends on the singer of how many stanzas he wants to add, but they all refer to the suffering of love and death. ....in Mexico it is tradition (the day of the dead, November 1 for deceased children and November 2 for deceased adults) "to celebrate death to honor life.... it is ancient tradition! ...❤️ 🇲🇽🖤❤️🇲🇽🖤❤️ ... It is a song that speaks of the suffering of love and pain, and the suffering related to the death of your loved ones and the "icy" cold that one feels when death is near. (it's real) that provoke chills! .. ☺️☺️☺️ is an EXCELLENT song that make you feel chills since the bones!..👌👌 ..."la llorona" (the weepy woman) is also a legend, it has several meanings but the main one is that of the woman who lost her children and / or her man and goes through life crying with suffering when remembering them! ... but in this case it is a song related to "death", which in Mexico is also called "la catrina" and death is represented by a woman, so you can notice (both in the lyrics and in the video) that since she sees "death" is because she already died too! and she is guiding her to the place where the other deceased souls are where they are all made up as "CATRINES" (males) or "CATRINAS" (females), which is what really happens! That is why in Mexico "THE DAY OF THE DEAD IS CELEBRATED TO HONOR LIFE" !! ... because we know that as long as we do not forget our loved ones, THEY WILL NEVER DIE! ...❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽🙏🙏 🙏🙏 ... this was so difficult try to explain so I really hope I explained good ... finger cross! 🤞🤞☺️ great song!...there are not way that not feel it cause is a great song!.... great Angela, great Natalia and great Aida...each of them with their own style! ...all three are EXCELLENT !!!!... and great reaction Beth!...👌👌....you really have to see and live these traditions to know better what I am talking about and you will really learn to value life through death!"".. ❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽 BLESSINGS!....☺️ ☺️ ☺️ 🙏🙏 🙏🙏

The song is not about the creepy lady of the lake, is about a young couple separate by the war. This is a real letter that him wrote to his lover, calling her "la llorona" that means "weepy lady" cuz she cried a lot when he left. He was killed in war but the story remains, so this is not a creepy song, it is a love song ♡
