This one is great at showing how tuned into the music she is. At just 9 years old, her understanding of how the song should be sung is just astounding. Many things can be taught, but that true connection to the song comes from somewhere deep within. As you go through more of Angelina's works, you will see that she _always_ has that true connection to any song she sings. BTW: No problem with the pauses. It's actually better for the artist if people can't just watch the whole video here instead of the original. Now everybody should follow that link in your description and go check out lots more of Angelina's work. There's a ton of it. Over 150 songs now and every one of them is magic.
Angelina new release "A million Miles" she wrote about her Japanese Grand Fathers passing. Also her grand mother was a child protege artist (painting) in Iran who introduced her to great jazz artists.
Like Mery, they are also both pre-teen publishers of prose. Mery first published at the age of 9, as did Angelina with her book "Between Two Hearts". And Angelina sold her first art at the age of 3, donating 20 drawings for a charity event her grandma Mery was hosting. I suspect Mery's art sold for thousands of times more, but wouldn't you love to own one of those 20 Angelina originals? 👌💯✨✨
I love watching reactions to Angelina doing this song!! It just blew me away the first time and every time I hear it and love seeing the stunned reactions of everyone. She is soooo talented and such a sweet charming angel. They named her well she really does seem to be an angel. She is such an old soul and it's like aliens took DNA from every jazz great and the worlds most talented vocalists in the past 500 years and blended it all together and abducted and inseminated her mother!! LOL Everything she does is just incredible and her covers are sooo much better then the originals. She has to be the most loved and hated( by the original artists) performer of all time. She was 9 in this video ! How many child singers sing in this genre ? Angelina is the very first I've seen who can sing jazz and blues so fearlessly and effortlessly it's unbelievable ! Her vibrato is a killer and with her added raspy voice it's so good ! Her covers of jazz songs are fantastic ! The hardest thing for most reactors is the visual of Angelina and the voice that is heard ! Doesn't make sense ! Her sense of timing is remarkable at her age but the fact she's been singing and listening to jazz since the age of two might explain it ! I just suscribed because of Angelina. She’s a genius. She was 9 years old when she has done this cover. She always made her own arrangements and the lyrics. And English is her third language. It’s unbelievable!! She always performed barefoot. It’s a beautiful story behind it. Her maternal grandmother introduced her to the jazz music. She has more than 140 covers and 3-4 original songs. All of them are amazing! She can play more instruments too. Hope you’ll continue with your reactions to Angelina. ❤️❤️❤️

Spot on! On the first couple of AJ vids I watched, I read comments like these and I thought, well that's a bit of hyperbole. That was over a year and many, many Angelina videos ago. Now I know, you really can't overstate her talent. A truly wonderful singer. A consummate professionaL And a beautiful, yet humble young lady.

🤣🤣🤣 Everyone’s reaction to the first time hearing this is the same… she was absolutely brilliant! I still listen to this at least once everyday. Even when I’m driving, I’ll tell Alexa to play Angelina Jordan songs. She is such an incredible talent! I can’t imagine being the voice teacher trying to instruct a child that’s better than they are. AJ is a musical prodigy… a genius if you will. She, and her voice is an absolute treasure.
She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. Lastly, did you notice how the "performing" Angelina, singing at a level of maturity far beyond her years, suddenly became a 9-year-old child almost instantaneously once she finished singing. From the time I first heard Angelina, way back at her first audition on Norway's Got Talent, she has amazed me.

Hi Jennifer, just discover you discovering Angelina Jordan, better late than never. I enjoy your reaction to Angelina's matured voice coming out of a 9 yrs old little girl. The close up on the Band Director reading Angelina's note regarding musical changes to the song for her. The band members nicknamed her "The Boss", for her ability to hear a song and make changes from music tempo, along with Lyrics making the song suitable for a young girl to sing.
Actually nine years and two months old when this was recorded. She made modifications to the lyrics and changes various elements of the instruments. At this point she was arranging her own music. There are videos of her rehearsals especially with Jay Hawkins “Portrait of a Man”, where you find her manipulating the band. She is affectionately referred to as the boss by her musicians from eight years on. She changed it to “Portrait of a Child “.

I love Angelina ❤️ Apart from being a magical singer, she seems like a really goodhearted person. The pauses are the whole reason I watch your reaction videos. it’s. the. whole. point. Seems pretty silly to be coming here to see the full performance.
It really moves me seeing a kid at the age of 9 so dedicated to her craft. My best moment is at 8:20, where she's so into it that she's raising herself on the tip of her toes to squeze out that last drop of greatness into that microphone. You just can't let that kind of dedication go unnoticed.
And that wordless portion of her performance toward the last - perhaps it's so obvious that I don't see others make mention - I take to be her incantation / her spell. To avoid calling myself addicted, I freely admit that she has held me spellbound ever since.
Check out her "Feeling Good"....the outdoor concert or the indoor one. Check out her "Somethings Got A Hold Of Me" rendition...outdoor concert also. I believe she was almost a year older in those two.
All AJ’s live performances are excellent, but I think the «Feeling good»-performance in LIVE on Stream Gir Tilbake is superior to the one you suggest, possibly also because of the band!

Yes you're right she is working hard for her voice development. She covered the art of singing from 77 famous artist. You can find a long list on her channels. Now she is creating more and more her own style. Please look at her latest single from RR.. 7th Heaven.. Her new JazzPop genre. We all are waiting for a full new album with own songs, she announced since last year.
Million Miles (live studio version), she wrote it for her late grandfather, and, it's another side of her voice you haven't heard yet. I love that I can feel how much you love and appreciate music, great reaction and technical breakdown!
Thank you for this enjoyable reaction/analysis, and remember, she arranged this herself, basing it on Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 OG. If you click on Rusty Shackleford (he commented a bit ago) you'll find he's arranged playlists of 1. all her videos 2. a chronological list, and more. That chronological list might help you find your way. We all have our favorites, but they are all pure magic. We get to watch her experimenting, unpacking her voice. If you want to jump back ahead and nerd-out on where she is now, I highly recommend her recent cover of "Billie Jean". She has implemented an amazing amount of nuances (decorations, artifacts, etc) throughout the song. Most importantly, she captures many, most, of us emotionally.

Jennifer, great reaction. There are good pausers and bad pausers - you are a good pauser. What fascinates me most about this song are the physical movements that she is able to match with the music. Sometimes it is so subtle as to be hardly noticeable (for example the very slight shoulder thrust with a flexible arm seen at about 8:08 - and immediately before you say "so whispery"). IMO, rather than everything being rehearsed, she gets in music character, and (to her) it all just happens (vocals too). It is a bit like the math geniuses who don't actually calculate the number - the answer simply appears in their mind's eye. In Angelina's "Elite Brain" (c. 2021 Kevin Good) the finished product is already created in her brain and then it is just a matter of creating the actions and sound that (to her) the performance demands. You understand the voice and what is being done at any given time and that is so valuable to her fans.

That's very interesting to me. I've long wondered about her preparation process. To me, it LOOKS like she doesn't depend heavily on rehearsals. Several reasons: 1) she brings minor mispronounciations on-stage when any coach rehearsing her would have corrected them. 2) her casual home guitarists say she doesn't do rehearsals, Records on first take. 3) several have said her rehearsals when needed for musician accompanist are flat and plain, just practice for the accompanist. The magic only comes out on stage.

Item #3: You can see this most dramatically when she was singing "It's A Man's World" with the Norwegian Military Band Towards the end, Angelina goes on a vocal tear and the conductor turns to her and just laughs and shakes his head. In other words, she had rehearsed with them and then she is singing in a way that simply stunned this seasoned music veteran. I think her interviews are most telling. In one of them the interviewer was asking about her learning how to sing at the music school that she attended after hours. She quicky noted that she taught herself to sing. And finally, I have transcribed another interview and in this one, she clearly describes an altered state of consciousness: During an interview, the host of a Norwegian TV talk show asked Angelina if she gets nervous before performing on stage. This was Angelina’s response: “When I sing, I go to another world. The world is endless. It's like, full of happiness. I love it. It's amazing. What makes it so fun every time, is how people react to it - mostly it's the shock at the first set of growls, and usually, people can't even speak at the end from shock. I love how it gets people hooked on Angelina, and it's so fun to watch them (sometimes immediately) run to find another video to watch - usually hoping this is not a one-off performance. Of course, she's so talented, there are so many other wonderful performances to react to. This video - your reaction - was seriously one of the best technical reviews and genuinely positive reactions I've ever seen - as was your reaction to BR a week ago. I subscribed last week - and I'll continue to follow you beyond AJ. You're really good at this, and I love how you pause, what you hear, and the musically technical way you respond (I'm also a vocalist). And your very real, subtle humor is extremely entertaining and just so delightful too! Thank you so much! 🥰 I suggest next on the AJ ride, one more "past" performance, Feeling Good "LIVE on The Stream Gir Tilbake" (at 10 yrs old, one cut, live with strings and big band), and then jump forward to her first original, Million Miles (about the passing of her grandfather, at 15 yrs old). I found Angelina almost 2 years ago now and its been the best 2 years ever.I try to listen to other singers but just can't get interested because of that voice of hers.If you react to her I will be very happy each time you do because you will rarely be disappointed.Listen to "All I ask" by her.Its my favorite.Thank you.

You are a highly skilled reviewer of singing. Some reactors have underestimated her abilities by commenting that her growls and squeals are attempting something she does not quite achieve. But, if you just look at the candle she holds at the beginning, it is a photo of Screaming Jay Hawkins, signaling her intent to do an homage. And if one were to listen to his original performance, you see he growled and screamed throughout. Bottom line: this is one of the very best music videos in terms of instrumentation, arrangement, and singing that has ever been made. Period. It is up there with Michael Jackson's original Billie Jean/moonwalk video, Nightwish's Ghost Love Score-Wacken, and Righteous Brothers 1965 Unchained Melody.

Now you need to see her own composition videos of "Million Miles". She wrote it when she was ~12 years old for the memory of her recently passed (at that time) beloved grandfather. She has dedicated it to him and for any others that have experienced such loss. There are two incredible video versions to see other than the official music video by her new label, Republic Records. Watch the lyrics version first. It has great artful graphics by her grandmom, a noted Iranian artist. The lyrics are most powerful. Then watch the b/w studio version. She uses just a piano (played by a very high up Republic executive) and cello backing. The emotion in this performance will make you cry. Angelina mentioned that while recording the "official" version she cried throughout the session. If you have memories of a dear loss, you need to do a reaction video of these performances. Stunning, emotional artistry by a 15 year old kid singer/songwriter/arranger. (I apologize for the "cut and paste" I used for this comment. I just wasn't going to write it over and over and over to everyone I suggested this to).
She is an illusionist, when she sang "heh, heh, heh, watch out". That was such a risky thing because 99.999% of young girls would sound like a young girl. Angie maintains her mature vocal authority.
I think she was acdtually 9 years old here. I looked it up --this video was produced in 2017 and she was born in 2006, so she was probably 10 years old here (her birthday is in January so pretty safe to say 10 years old, unless it was done in very early January, in which case she was very close to 10 years old.
I'm Still Holding Out For You at age ten is my absolute favorite of Angelina, but A Song for A shows her ability with any song genre and was specifically written for her. Enjoy your journey; may 🌊 of happiness engulf you. 💖

I have listened to this performance so many times and the last note still gets me. Where does all the breath come from to hold such a strong note for so long? How can a tiny body contain so much air? Here's to many decades of Angelina to come!
Pat It's not just the last note. She takes her breath at the beginning of the phrase: "I'm yours right....." and holds it through the last note ("now").... I count 14 seconds.
She also did this on stage at an older age with similar growls and screams which told me that she is the only singer who could do justice to a song like 'Cry Baby', a Janis Joplin classic. Whether it's jazz or soul singing, this girl has no real competition with Amy and Janis both gone.
Suggestions: her four interpretacions on Norway Got Talent at 7-8 years, wich she won,. her cover of It's a man's world by James Brown, her covers of All i ask by Adele and Heal the World by Michael Jackson and her originals Million Miles and 7h Heaven.
She does "Fly me to the moon" with the same Quincy Jones arraignment that Frank Sinatra used. She totally owned it. That was when I knew she was different.
Jennifer, when I fed my infant son I would also open my mouth, and my throat sympathetically. Angie's last three words "yours right now", causes me to sympathetically, or reactively do what I did with my son 30yrs ago, my throat opens up. And I'll salivate, all for my kid lol. I’m a new subscriber and hit all the above buttons just for your Angelina reactions. Ok I may watch a few of your other reactions as well but mostly AJ. Remarkable how this little girl takes ownership of this and every other song she takes on. I’ve watched many young singers take on songs that are too big for them but you have to love and appreciate their efforts. Most seem rooted in one vein of music or one artist like Celine or Adele. Angelina is capable of performing ANY song she wants and adds a distinctive style and warmth that is unique to her. You can now watch any song at any age and be amazed. Just remember that many of her renderings are done to honor the original artist but not necessarily note for note. An example would be Carol Kings’ Natural Woman to honor Aretha Franklin or Wake Me Up. One that does follow note for note is Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing. I like all types of music but most vocalist don’t draw me in and entice me to stay to the end of the performance. After catching one of the multitude of performances on the internet by Angelina I was hooked to the nth degree and I had to feed my addiction. I had to listened to each and every performance over and over again even though some were songs I did not care for in the past. When Angelina Jordan, the once in a lifetime prodigy, performs her ART she takes the mundane and makes it ethereal. I don’t know how she does it but please, AJ, carry on.
