The reason a lot of people are requesting for you to watch Ateez on Immortal Songs is because they won the entire show with that performance (Black Cat by Turbo cover) alone. Immortal Songs uses audience vote and the audience there prefer performances with amazing vocals. The fact that Ateez won already on their first appearance is outstanding as idol groups rarely win on the show; Ateez being the 6th idol group who won. The sound engineering was also good if you ask me and their stage presence was insane. Coincidentally, you also uploaded this vid on Ateez's 2nd anniversary (idk if it was intentional) and they have achieved a lot in these past 2 years as a rookie group! The thing with kpop, especially in ateez, there are vocal hierarchy. Main vocal and rappers (the loudest), lead vocals (medium), and sub vocal (least loud). It’s the setting difference. Ateez is one of the few groups where you can hear all of them live (even though it’s mixed) without too much vocal layers. Esp the black/red guy and the rappers. Personally I also don't favor this different volume setting. But yeah, ateez still gives me live vocal which is very much appreciated.
The reason backup voice louder than lead vocal because jongho (main vocal) who sang that part, he has the max volume to delivered high note in the climax. But they choosed to sing live to give us the best experienced. The guy that was the loudest (red/black) is the main vocalist normally broadcasts would turn the backing track lower and turn up their mic for them. This also goes for the rappers. If you want to hear clear live vocals from them, you should check out their cover of Black Cat on Immortal Songs and their live stage of Star 1117 [(on mcountdown) (its more of a ballad)] also, there was no audience (besides cameramen and crew) in this performance due to covid, there hasn't been a live audience in these broadcasts since around February
jongho is the one doing the high notes. his voice and his technique are crazy. the fact that he's the youngest and is already this skilled is mind blowing.
Jongho's vocals are out of this world and the fact that he can do those high notes so easily is insane! Hes Definitely in the running for 4th gen vocal king!!
you should definitely check out their Immortal Songs Performance because that perf was a real show and it requires an artists to sing it live. ATEEZ were on that and what you will heard was them singing live. A 100% live and dont be surprised.
You should check out Black Cat Nero, Jongho does a 6 note vocal run (I think ending in a G5) and also the song Wonderland (Symphony No.9) where he hits a 4 note run ending in a B5. There is a Kingdom performance of it and he sings it 100% live.
There was no audience actually, due to covid-19 restrictions. The crowd you hear is just a recording of a fake crowd hahaha Also the one who sang the high notes (the E5) was Jongho, and you should watch their performance of Black Cat on Immortal Songs 2. He did a 6-note belt at the end, where the highest note was a G#5.
And the one who was singing highnote is Jongho, the youngest in group, and he is just 20 years old. You can search "Jongho singing" and baam theres a lot of compilation of his singing and again, dont be surprised.
Yes their sound engines needs to do better, they always drown them with the back up track too much and you can hardly hear their live vocals. *Choi Jongho* isn't call *Vocal King* for nothing, his range is out of this world! *ATEEZ World Domination Generation*
The first part is actually sang 100% live ,there was a behind the clip video where the singer who starts the song (Yeosang ) messed up the timing and sang before the song started so it just proves that he does it SO WELL
Ah, interesting you said that about Jongho's high note! Korean is spoken very forward in the mouth, so I find a lot of idols sing that way. Also, if you want to hear their live vocals, you can try looking up an MR removed! The backing tracks on music shows are always quite loud. ^^' AGREED!!! The sound engineers on music shows often have an odd way of mixing the sound. MNET (the channel you watched it off of) are especially bad for that. >.< Also, I find that if Jongho is off, he usually is sharp! I wonder if maybe it's because he's trying to compensate? ^^ Ahh, you mentioned it later lolol! Jongho was the one in the red and black suit. :3
Kpop stages (show networks ) require backtrack however, Ateez sings live. On some of the adlibs part of the pre-chorus, chorus you will hear back track because they don't sing those but sometimes they change it up and do it. The thing I do love about Ateez is they aren't afraid to sing without mics. Alot of kpop is diff without that backtrack support. Some clearer stages without it are Ateez Black Cat on Immortal songs. MonstaX on Kelly Clarkson and BTS singing with Charlie Pugh. All kpop singers use backtrack on their regular stages. I think it's to protect the image of kpop. Of course Ateez vocals could grow with training. Also, you would def hear a crowd if one was there but you can't compare them to BTS and expect a same crowd when BTS has been around 8 years and Ateez just hit the 2 year mark on the 24th. Ateez holds the record for being the fastest artist to sell a 100,000 seat world tour in the shortest time in kpop history. Keep your eye on them. US label fought over them. They saw what we saw. Ateez will be massive. How about you volunteer to train them too. Btw listen to Jongjo covers My Room My Heart, The Truth Untold.
There was no audience, due to the virus the performances are filmed essentially behind closed doors. To avoid silence at the end, the broadcasters added cheers at the end.

Like a few others have said, I also appreciate the analysis of this performance and the way you compared the original with the performance so there would be an easily audible comparison between the video and the stage performance. I have been a fan of theirs for a year now, and honestly it’s been amazing seeing them grow into their own. They used to not sing as much live as they do now (which is a common thing for rookie groups [groups that debuted recently]), and to see where they started and where they’re at now is honestly a night and day difference and I’m so happy to be witnessing that growth as it happens. I’d like to also thank you for talking about the mixing levels and the engineers because honestly it’s one of the most frustrating things to deal with when watching these sort of performances. I’m also a musician and I like to analyze performances in the same way you do, so the weird mixing and balance of mic volumes is honestly quite the hurdle to get over to be able to properly analyze a performance, since they tend to vary wildly (the balance of mic volumes I mean). So I for one definitely appreciate you drawing attention to that in this video. Thank you again for a fantastic analysis! 🙏
During choreo they phase in and out of a backtrack and live, but the beginning was live. At that point, they hadn't really started dancing yet, so they weren't trying to compromise between choreo and vocal stability.
I think you have to react to Jongho, he’s the main vocalist and it’s one of the best voices in Kpop, actually he’s the best in the 4th generation (in my opinion) you’ll like it really!

it isnt an actual crowd, they performed without a crowd because of COVID and that's why the "cheers" were a bit underwhelming, the show just added them on AND PLEASE DO THEIR MAMA 2019 PERFORMANCE AND IMMORTAL SONGS PERFORMANCE, BOTH ARE LIVE AND THE FIRST ONE HAS AN ACTUAL CROWD SO YOU CAN SEE HOW WELL THEY CONTROL IT tysm for the reaction thooo !!!!
You should definitely react to their 'black cat' performance at immortal songs! They won immortal songs which is a pretty big thing for Ateez as a rookie group. The Artists that sing at immortal songs must sing COMPLETELY live without backtracking vocals so Ateez performed and sung completely live and they killed it! Definitely something you should check out soon~
Guy with the red and black is jongho he is the main vocalist so he’s always singing live and singing the most bc that’s expected from him all kind of powerful vocals and high notes which is why you will see he’s not moving as much as the rest. And yes it’s glaringly obvious when K-pop groups lip sync😂 it’s bc stage presence and dancing is more important to them. The industry prefers that and visuals over the actual singing it really is how they market to Korean fans bc they much more prefer the looks over anything. But many groups have fantastic vocalist none the less and great potential like ateez here.
One thing one of the members said about there’s performance is because the dance moves are continuously picked up by the microphones the people in the back will turn it down and when a members part comes up they will higher it again but sometimes it’s not turned up enough

Most of the time they do sing live but with background tracks (because no one can rap/sing and keep that stable while dancing) and depending on how loud they have to sing for a part, sometimes the background track over powers their voices

the one u pointed out as "having potential and singing too hard" is the youngest. so his stage performance and talents will mature over time and only get more amazing than they already are.
You can listen to utmost live vocals on their ballads like star1117, but they're a performance group so they focus on dance too...still they deliver a good amount of live vocals when they don't move around too much
Jong ho the one with reddish hair and red and black suit(I think its a suit) reminds me of bts jungkook because they both can sing pretty good while dancing nd I feel like if Jong ho practices more he will be ask good as Jungkook and singing while dancing

The reason noone was screaming is due to this being during covid. They used fans recorded voices as the applause. The amazing thing about them is that all their stages are live! They never lip sync. They confirmed it in their wire interview a couple days ago. Thank you so much for reacting to ateez. You definitely have to check out their other songs. I would recommend utopia, aurora, turbulence and for sure wonderland. Jongho's voice in it is insane! There are so many other ones that are amazing. They are incredibly talented! Oh yes and please check out immortals songs! It is absolutely insane. The reason they even invited them is because they are like the only group that sings live on their stages.
