Who knows I'm still a little girl Waiting for the school bus, alone Tired with my socks Praying low in the corners For being a bad girl Maybe the prince became a bore That lives giving in my bag Who knows life is not dreaming I only ask God A little trickery I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love Silly is not living the reality And I still have an entire afternoon I walk the streets I write a check I change a place plant I drive my car I take my pile And I still have time to sing I only ask God A little trickery I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I walk the streets I write a check I change a place plant I drive my car I take my pile And I still have time to sing I only ask God A little trickery I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love Who knows, I'm still a little girl!
[1st part] What if I'm still a little girl waiting for the school bus by myself? So tired wearing my knee highs, And whispering a prayer on the corners For being a bad girl? What if the Prince has become boring. That is always bugging me up. What if life is not to dream. [Chorus] I only ask God a little malandragem*** Cause I'm a child and I dont know the truth. I'm a poet and haven't learned how to love. [2nd part] Bullshit is not living the reality. And I still have the whole afternoon. I walk on the streets, I cash a check. I move a plant to another spot*** I drive my car, drink my booze And still have time to sing [Repeat chorus] [Repeat 2nd part] [Back to Chorus] What if I'm still a little girl? Ps: 1st *** 'Malandragem' is a slang in PT-br that means "to have the insight to identify what is good from what's not. The opposite of ingenuity. Genius. Brains". 2nd *** Some people say that the part "I cash my check and move a plant to another spot" is related to drugdealing and drug abuse. She ODed in 2000's. "To move a plant" might be "to take weed, roll it and pot it, so changing the natural state of the plant". But only rumors.
Lyric: Maybe I'm just a little girl still Waiting for the school bus all alone Tired wearing my mid-calf socks Whispening a pray everywhere I go Just because I am a bad girl Maybe the prince became a boring one who keeps annoying me Maybe living is not dreaming I just ask God for a bit of astuteness/malice Because I am only a kid and I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I have never learnt to love I'm a poet I have never learnt to love Nosense is not to live the reality And a whole afternoon still remains for me I walk the streets I cash a check I change the place of a plant I drive my car Take some drinks And I still have time for singing I just ask God for a bit of astuteness/malice Because I am only a kid and I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I have never learnt to love I'm a poet I have never learnt to love
Eu fui testemunha ocular desse dia incrível!
Cássia was a master of her craft. She could sing pretty much ANYTHING and her confidence was unparalleled in the world of Brazilian music. She would sing old school samba and Nirvana in the same gig. This album is her MTV Unplugged, and the setlist features Edith Piaf, Beatles, and several Brazilian songwriters. Unfortunately she died the same year it was released (2001).
Wow, I am so glad I watched this one! I'd never heard of Cassia, but I was so impressed and immediately looked her up. How terribly sad that the world lost her at 39. She had an amazing energy. I am going to enjoy listening to her back catalogue, but I'm sad she's no longer with us.
This is not a literal translation, I tried to get some of the meaning from the lyrics and translate it to English: Maybe I'm still a little girl Waiting for the school bus... alone Tired with my school uniform's socks Praying almost quietly around For being a bad girl Maybe the prince became a bore Who's always hitting my nuts Maybe life is not about dreaming I only ask God A little trickery Because I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love Silly is not living the reality And I still have an entire afternoon I walk the streets I cash a check I change a plant from its place I drive my car I take my booze And I still have time to sing To sing I only ask God A little trickery Because I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I walk the streets I cash a check I change a plant from its place I drive my car I take my booze And I still have time to sing To sing I only ask God A little trickery Because I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I only ask God A little trickery Because I'm a child And I don't know the truth I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love I only ask God Maybe I'm still a little girl
Very nice translation, kudos. Love the idea of translating "malandragem" as trickery... it's a hard word to translate properly, but here I think that it conveys exactly what it needs to. 👍 However, there are a few small things I'd change, just for clarity's sake: - "Who's always hitting my nuts" (Que vive dando no meu saco) 🡆 "Who's always hitting _me in the nuts_ ". - "I only ask God / A little trickery" (Só peço a Deus / Um pouco de malandragem) 🡆 "I only ask God / _For_ a little _bit of_ trickery" . - "I'm a poet and I didn't learn to love" (Eu sou um poeta e não aprendi a amar) 🡆 "I'm a poet and didn't learn _how_ to love" . - "Silly is not living the reality" (Bobeira é não viver a realidade) 🡆 "Silly is not living reality". - "I change a plant from its place" (Mudo uma planta de lugar) 🡆 "I _move_ a plant from its _current_ place". - "I take my booze" (Tomo meu pileque) 🡆 "I _get plastered / smashed / buzzed_ ", the choice of verb depending on how far you want to convey the "pileque" went. 😁
Just gotta explain the "prince" part, that she changed "sapo" (a frog, like in the story where the prince turns into a frog) to "chato" (boring) that many brazilians always tought it was the frog, like the prince has changed to something else... but no, he became a bore, annoying that little girl It's a nice irony
The moment that you say ''I wish I knew what she was saying'' Cássia Sings: ''I drive my car'' and then she makes an engine sound hahahaha She was just amazing. Cheers from Brazil :D
"Gostaria de saber o que ela está falando. Tenho a impressão de que é algo perverso." Tomara que ela tenha visto a traduçaaaaaaaaãoo kkkkk, a música é mais que perfeita!
Quem sabe eu ainda sou uma garotinha (Maybe I’m just a little girl) Esperando o ônibus da escola sozinha ( Waiting the school bus, alone) Cansada com minhas meias três quartos (Tired wearing my mid-calf socks) Rezando baixo pelos cantos (Whispening a pray in the corners) Por ser uma menina má (For been a bad girl) Quem sabe o príncipe virou um chato (Maybe the prince has become a bore) Que vive dando no meu saco (Who keeps annoying me) Quem sabe a vida é não sonhar (Maybe live isn’t dreaming) Eu só peço a Deus (I just ask to God) Um pouco de malandragem (A little bit of malice) Pois sou criança (‘Cause I’m only a child) E não conheço a verdade (And I don’t know the truth) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I have never learnt how to love) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I have never learnt how to love) Bobeira é não viver a realidade (Bullshit is not to live the reality) E eu ainda tenho uma tarde inteira (And I still have an whole afternoon) E eu ando nas ruas (I walk in the streets) Eu troco cheque (I cash a check) Mudo uma planta de lugar (I change the place of a plant) Dirijo meu carro (I drive my car) Tomo o meu pileque (I take some drinks) E ainda tenho tempo pra cantar (And I still have some time to sing) Pra cantar (For sing) Eu só peço a Deus (I just ask to God) Um pouco de malandragem (A little bit of malice) Pois sou criança (‘Cause I’m only a child) E não conheço a verdade (And I don’t know the truth) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I have never learnt how to love) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I have never learnt how to love) Eu ando nas ruas (I walk in the streets) Eu troco cheque (I cash a check) Mudo uma planta de lugar (I change the place of a plant) Dirijo meu carro (I drive my car) Tomo o meu pileque (Take some drinks) E ainda tenho tempo pra cantar (And I still have some time to sing) Pra cantar (For sing) Eu só peço a Deus (I just ask to God) Um pouco de malandragem (A little bit of malice) Pois sou criança (‘Cause I’m only a child) E não conheço a verdade (And don’t know the truth) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I have never learnt how to love) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I have never learnt how to love) Eu só peço a Deus (I just ask to God) Um pouco de malandragem (A little bit of malice) Pois sou criança (‘Cause I’m just a child) E não conheço a verdade (And I don’t know the truth) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I haver never learnt how to love) Eu sou poeta e não aprendi a amar (I’m a poet and I haver never learnt how to love) Eu só peço a Deus (I just ask to God) Um pouco de malandragem (A little bit of malice) sorry for any mistakes

I'm Brazilian and watching you react to Cassia made me so emotional. Mainly when you said: it just makes me smile! No need to understand the words when the song, as a whole, tells a story.
Elis Regina, Cassia Eller, Andre Mattos... well, very good picks from Brazil so far. Wonder who will be next from Brazil! I really enjoy your videos. Cheers!
Cassia Eller died in 2001, Beth. Unfortunately, we Brazilians have lost a very strong musical reference! Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful video! A kiss and success to you!
Beth: she's so unapologetic Me: YES SHE IS Beth: I wish I knew what she was saying Me: YES YOU DO Beth: she's so confident, i love her Me: YES SHE IS I LOVE HER TOO

So , so good! 🇧🇷🇵🇹
She said something like "I drive my life, I choice my money and I can sing my song, I'm a poet but don't know how to love, I just prayer for a few trickery" 🤘❤️
"She's so unapologetic" - As a Brazilian admirer of her work i believe that suits Cassia so well. Such a good example that you don't need to be 100% connected to the lyrics to have a feel of what's going on!
Amazing! Cassia Eller's talent was immense. A great loss for Brazilian music. :( Please make a video reacting to Maria Bethânia singing Reconvexo. It will be fantastic! 🧡
Cássia Eller was a wonderful singer with a stronger and powerful voice, and her voice was wonderful, and certainly she represented a force In Brazilian music. Unforgettable! And your video is so cute! I love it! 😍 Hugs from Brazil!
i am from brazilian, cassia eller was one of the greatest singers of brazilian rock. she passed away in 2001. we from Brazil who like rock miss it a lot. sou do brasil e aqui no brasil cassia eller foi uma das maiores cantoras do rock desde os anos 90, e nós que gostamos de rock sentimos a falta dela, que nos deixou em 2001
Shes from my home town and I had classes with the same grammar teacher that gave her classes. Once we asked about her and he described her as a very quiet, almost shy girl who was always with her acoustic guitar everywhere she went ❤
Wonderful!! Thanks a lot for talking about Cássia Eller!! She was one of Brazil’s biggest rock stars and died too soon in 2001. ⭐️You’re such a talented person! Keep doing these great react videos, you are smart, you know what you are talking about, watching your reactions and comments always make me smile! Great job!! 🙂
She was my favourite singer when I was younger, I lost account of how many times I have listened to that album in a single afternoon. Cássia is much missed! She was amazing 💚
Hey Beth, nice videos! Sadly we lost Cassia almost 20 years ago, she is an icon, a legend here in Brazil, not only because of her tremendous singing and composing skills but by the warm-hearted person she was. Good to see you showing our idols! Good fortune to you, ever!
I simply love when we have Brazilian artists getting know by foreigners because our country has SO MUCH to offer to the world... And the best part is to see them on my favorite channel!
U r so eloquent and such great perceptive person. Cássia Eller was a great singer in Brazil and her legacy still rocks on the radio station. The lyrics were always well made and everybody who knew her told she was friendly and kind. It was so cool to see your reaction. Kisses from Brazil.
It was a beautiful and exciting analysis. It's beautiful to see a foreign voice professional , in this case a Scotswoman, analyzing with such propriety and affection one of our most beloved singers. It's shocking to think that she's been gone for 20 years. Rest in peace, Cassia. We miss you so much.
Love it!!!! It was amazing to start my day watching you Beth talking about our greatest rock female star 🇧🇷!!! Hope you can look for more Brazilian singers and know more about cassia's career...she left us very early..😢 love you and your videos🧡!!! Hope to see you saying more about chester bennington...singing rolling in the deep from adele 🧡
In that part of the song (7:24) she said "I drive my car" and improvised imitating the sound of the car... It`s not at all wicked, but something like "fast and furious".
muito bom !!! ◙◙◙ this is a real reaction !!!
Other suggestions from excellent Brazilian singers with an incredible voice: ▫️Milton Nascimento ▫️Emílio Santiago ▫️Marisa Monte ▫️Zizi Possi ▫️Zélia Duncan ▫️Nanna Caymmi ▫️Lulu Santos
Cassia is the real deal. I Heard a old tape by her..she was kind of finding her "voice" singing in a really high register. Pitch perfect! Strong at the same time so fragile. RIP Cassia.
Cassia Eller was one greatest voices at Brazilian Popular Music. Her voice is unique and her songs always will be listen for us. Thanks for this moment.
She was, and still is up to this day, one of the best singers Brazil had ever had. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news of her passing, I was such a huge fan of her even at a young age and it felt as if I had lost someone close. You definitely should react to Ana Carolina e Seu Jorge - É isso aí. I believe you'll absolutely love it.
I am always amazed at how much we can relate to music even if you don't really understand the language. You can really see Beth feel precisely what all Brazilians feel when we listen to this song. Even the tone. She not far off at all when she says she feels it's something "wicked". Loved this!
Oh, Beth, I love it How you are always talking about brazilian artists. There are many excellent singers throughtout the World, but It is amazing when someone abroad gives visibility to what Brazil has in its best: art, music, culture. Thank you! Cassia was amazing. You should check out her son, Chicão. He has similar voice Power and is very autentic.
As a Brazilian and a big fan of rock / metal, I can say that Cássia Eller was a fantastic artist, it's sad she to have died so early, the Brazilian song lost in culture a lot when she died.

OMG this is a CLASSIC. I was a kid when she released this song. A lot of what you’re picking up is the way CARIOCAS say stuff (accent). I just wish she was alive today so I could go to her concerts. She was one of the greatest female rock singers in Brazil 🇧🇷.
I love when I see you looking for different artists, of different styles and from different countries, it shows me that you really are professional in your area, congratulations! And I love your comments, you have a high developed felling in music
Wow! So cool! Cassia was really great. And it is very interesting that you could get what the message is just by the way she sang this song. This song is all about attitude. About being a go getter. I think that the song Blaze Of Glory is a song that you could compare to this one lyric wise. I'm Brazilian and I was really surprised to see what you have done here. Congratulations! Keep up the good work.
Cássia and Amy are the singers I most like ever. I'd like you had choose a more dynamic song, she sings a lot in english too. Anyway, good work, as always.
