I had started to give up on most newer country music. Then i stumbled onto him on RU-vid about a year or two before he blew up and was playing with JT at the CMAs. He has restored some faith and im am truly glad he decided to sing. Plus i dove into his previous musical groups (Steeldrivers, bluegrass. Jompsom Brothers, rock), recommend them as well.
Great breakdown on the "WAaaaaaaAAAAaAAaaAaAAaaAAaAAaaaRrrRmm" rif!!! 😁 Before this, I always thought he was just improvising as he felt his way though it. Learning new things is always so fun for me!!!! Thank you, Beth!!!
Chris Stapleton, as you said, has written a multitude of hit songs for other country artists. His wife, Morgane, and the mother of their 5 children is also fantastic songwriter. She is the one that talked him into becoming a singer. Chris had, or perhaps still does, have stage fright and she sings harmony with him to help with his stage fright. Chris won 3-4 (not sure) Country Music Awards at the 2021 CMA show. A fantastic pair.
Memories of him having the entire O2 in the palm of his hand at Country 2 Country in 2016 - small band taking up about a third of a massive stage, O2 full to the rafters, and you could have heard a pin drop...
He is known for being a bit "stage shy". Probably why he spent so many years writing for others and hiding all of this talent from us. If you notice, he doesn't make much eye contact with the crowd, and much more often looks to Morgane for a "calming" influence.
Actually he is not as stage shy as you would think. He has also appeared on the voice some years ago where he sang an original. NOW the reason he looks over is it is something duets do , there are signals they use to let the other singer/s know or give cues as to when a chorus begins cuts off or if they plan to do something, that involves a wink, a nod or some other sort of visual and vice versa. Even if it is a duet , there are times where the second performer will give over to the primary out of respect or there may be a line that is specifically designed for a vocal type such as the case here. A perfect example of duets and signaling would be Steve Nicks with Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty you can see almost through the entire performance signals looks and so forth.
Both of this is untrue lol. He was never on the voice..ppl covered his music on the voice but I have never seen that...the video would have blown up or went viral. Secondly, the stage fright or shyness rumor is an internet rumor gotten out of control. His wife actually has stage fright not him. They discuss it in an article a large News Paper. Chris was less singer for two different bands prior to going solo, not to mention the 10 yrs of videos of him performing solo or accoustic sets on his own prior this album dropping. The reality is country music like all music is now under same control, same suits making decisions.b which is many country resent the turn or style change to pop it has taken over past 10 to 15 yrs. Chris in the suits mind wasn't marketable, not sexy. Doesn't look good in tight jeans and cut off sleeves so got ignored, unsigned as a solo artist for a long time. Only signed as a writer.
You should react to some of his stuff from back when he was with The SteelDrivers. Sticks that Made Thunder, Can You Run and Midnight Tears are some of my favorites.
Yeah he is great and I particularly like his live stuff. You know how some artists just do great live. I just saw him perform cold at the CMT awards that was great.
I adore his work with the Steeldrivers. I think spending so much time doing bluegrass is a huge part of how he developed such an unpretentious stage style, with a voice that doesn't need studio gimmicks to carry his music. As noted below, Can You Run and Sticks That Made Thunder are amazing.

I absolutely love his performance, (and his wife's as well), but can I please give a shout out to the boys in the band. They completely NAILED this song..! They laid down the perfect foundation for Chris to stand on and shine.
Chris has the Texas and old southern USA east coast accent. There are other areas in north America that bring country music traditions in as well. Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian is one. Newer ones are Brittany Spencer from Baltimore Maryland, Avi Kaplan from the central valley of California, and Yola from the U.K. of all places. You can find all of them living in and around Nashville now however. One reason I like country/folk/Americana is that they all tend to write the music they sing. A complete artistic vision and story telling they feel compelled to share.
Your break down of the runs that Chris does was excellent! I have listened to his version of Tennessee Wiskey since it came out, but it was not until you broke down his runs that I realized that he was doing old school Sam Cooke runs with a country bent.
You need to react to him doing Amanda live at The Grand Ole Opry. Morgane has some amazing harmonies. Her version You Are My Sunshine with Chris on background vocals is also a stellar performance.
This clip of Chris is taken from Austin City Limits, a TV show that airs on American TV every Saturday night. It's been on the air for more than 40 years on PBS, and it only features the best country music.
@@adamkeane2622 I’m a Canadian I was just joking about how I hear all the women referred to when I’m in New Orleans and Beth was reacting to a southern song.
@@adamkeane2622 if you have a problem with the south to this day, you are part of what's wrong with this world. Only a fool is mad at history. You don't get angry about it, you learn from it.
@@thatoneguy9473 If you knew why I'm still pissed on that part of America then you would've agreed with me. And "getting mad at history" goes on to show that the history lessons are working.
Also check out (mostly her) singing “You are my Sunshine”!! It is soooo good. Oh yeah….. greetings from Fort Worth, Texas!! Home of the world famous “Billy Bob’s” and the start of the Chisholm Trail. Our motto is literally “Where the West Begins”. Great work by the way. I’m not a singer but I love to hear great vocals and my daughter is one of you blessed creative souls. Out of curiosity, would you consider reacting to “Miserere mi deus” by the British choral group “The 16”. Based on everything I heard in my life, it is the most beautiful. If we can all sit still for a period of time and just listen to this with eyes closed, I’m know some tears will be shed out of auditory ecstasy!! Again thanks for the insight you provide to us plebs!!
He performed with H.E.R. at a country awards show and it was incredible -- definitely check it out if you haven't seen it. PS: Would love to see you do a reaction to Brandi Carlile 😍
If it were not for Mirgana we'd likely as not never had the singer we live. As he suffered serious stage fright and with her strength she pushed him out and weth her live she held him giving him the ability to overcome. Ef yiu want to see et check out his Sometimes I Cry performance where he never loiks at the audience and sings weth his eyes closed. It also, l'm sure, helped hes focus.
Any chance you could consider doing a video on vocal fatigue? I spend a lot of time hanging out and singing to myself which is causing me to lose my voice especially my lower end. It would be awesome to see how to combat that before it happens and how to heal from it after it happens.
You should check out theNorwegian winner of the voice. Jørgen Dahl moe ( you would be in fore a real treat ) Dancing in the dark, or feels like home ;-)
I would love to see you react to The Mavericks. Raul Malo’s voice is so beautiful! I would suggest the song Oh What A Thrill. I know there are live and recent videos on RU-vid. Please and thank you!
I would highly recommend listening to his wife Morgan singing you are my sunshine. He sings backup to her and it really showcases her voice and is a beautiful version.
Chris Stapleton is a master but I can’t help but think maybe who ever wrote this song got the musical ideal from Etta James “I’d rather go blind”. Maybe that can be a song that Beth reacts to. I’m curious to see if you can hear the correlation in the 2 songs.
Love to see a reaction on Chris kläffords cover of Tennessee whiskey..a more richer voice and more soul in it..great reaction thou and ty for your time 😀
The woman is his wife and he has sever stage fright so she tours and sings with him so he can have a focus. There was an interview for I think the country music awards where he talks about it
beth today is angelina's 16th bday...she has a mashup singing "i'd rather go blind " w/ CS"tennessee whiskey " it's incredible - u will love it...also angelina released a studio version of " easy on me " IMO better than adele...please react to one...love ur talent and voice...
@@70centurian She does. If she ever does Jimmie Rodgers Waiting For A Train where he does that effect with his voice to sound like a train I just might pass out.
Honestly i know nothing about music and just try to mimic the voice of who im singing a song of, but the way you explained the run was actually very simple to understand and im sure with repetition and practice anyone can get this rhythm down
Hello ... It be really fun to see you react and give your opinion on Ricky Muños lead singer of a band called Intocable " Fuerte no soy " en vivo . It be awesome love your content and u have a new fan .
High Beth. If you go listen to the song "Tennessee Whiskey" by the original artist and the follow up by a much more recognizable Country artist, George Jones (myself, never connected with George Jones despite his popularity), it had a musical score that was much more countrified and never showcased the lyrics, in my opinion, and the song never sold well. Chris Stapleton takes those wonderful lyrics and adapts Etta James "I'd Rather Go Blind" and has a huge hit with "Tennessee Whiskey". I know you have reacted to Angelina Jordan and someone has created a mash-up with Chris Stapleton "Tennessee Whiskey" and Angelina Jordan "I'd Rather Go Blind" if you are interested.
Great reaction! You should listen to Cakra Khan's cover of this song. He has a raspy bluesy voice similar to Chris and does a great cover of Tennessee Whiskey. He also does a cover of Iris by the Goo Goo dolls that's pretty amazing. Listen to the Orchestral Cover of Iris for a real treat.
Dean Dillon was the Chris Stapleton before Chris Stapleton both are worthy of being on the Mount Rushmore of country music songwriters ... I believe Tennesee Whiskey was origionally written for George Strait
