"Daididau" has long been considered a folk song. However, philologists, based on the study of the poetry of Magzhan Zhumabayev, came to the conclusion that the author of this song is Magzhan Zhumabayev (1893-1938) - a Kazakh Soviet writer, poet, publicist, teacher, one of the founders of the new Kazakh literature. Magzhan Zhumabayev was shot as an enemy of the people in March 1938. The poems, songs, and other works of Magzhan Zhumabayev, written before the first arrest and exile to Siberia for 10 years in 1929, have been preserved and they are well known. Almost nothing is known about the works written in Siberia He was pulled from his love, and then he was lied to and told that she no longer loved him. Then when released he found that she had always loved him. He then was imprisoned again and put to death. All of Kazakhstan knows this song and the true story. This is deeply personal and important to Dimash and his country.

This instrument is called dombra. It's our ancient music instrument with 2 strings. Dimash started with a very old composition of Kurmangazy, he is our great ancient composer. But the song Daididau was composed by Dimash personally
"I AM A SINGER" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers where the audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. The audience is the same throughout the entire show, 500 with musical backgrounds and they judge the show by points each week. The competition consisted of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash had been invited as a wildcard and was the first foreigner and youngest person to ever compete in the show. He became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Dimash won the first two episodes! He also won the 6th, for his rendition of “Adagio”, a song made famous by Lara Fabian. First place went to the famous Chinese 51 y/o singer Sandy. Danielle, Did you realize that May 24th is his Birthday? He is now 27. And after things settle he plans to come to America for an extended period to help get better established here and in the western world. The 2 string instrument is called a Dombra. Too bad you didn't react to the video of this song from his Bastau concert. There were more musicians also playing the Dombra there. I Am A Singer 2017 in China was 1 episode per week for 14 weeks for Professional acts and Dimash to compete & that first year with an invitation to Dimash didn't allow a foreigner to win because of the rules so he got the best he could of 2nd place. That silence is spectacular, just as much a part of his performance as the notes he sings. It is one of the things I really appreciate in Dimash's presentations--he doesn't rush his songs. He takes his time starting each phrase, even on slow pieces, and he is a master at letting the audience wait in suspense when the music calls for it.

Yes, this is from Singer 2017, a Chinese competition for professional singers. I feel it is important for you to know he was SOOOO happy and proud to share a native folk song from Kazakhstan that night--he has stated more than once that it has been one of his dreams since childhood, to share his beloved country with the world. To say you are Kazakh is not mere patriotism--it defines you to your core. Proud warriors from times past, their culture carried forward inside the people's hearts, into today. To love his interpretation of this well known and much loved song goes without saying......but I also must comment about the exquisite beauty of all the costumes. Regal. Elegant. Stunning.

The musicians, accompanied by some of Dimash's university professors, traveled all the way from kazakhstan to China for this particular performance. When the Kazakh team arrived at the airport in China, the Chinese DEARS welcomed them as if they were close friends of Dimash. It was at that moment that the whole team realized the intense love the Chinese have for Dimash. He is an artist that Chinese Dears will never forget as shown by a nurse in Wuhan who made everybody aware that she is a DEAR by writing it at the back of her personal protective equipment while on duty at the hospital fighting covid-19.

He is playing a Dombra - a 2-string traditional Kazakh lute. This whole performance was to show his culture to the world. He is wearing a traditional shapan, all the musicians - his fellow students - wear traditional clothes playing traditional Kazakh instruments. Dimash is adorably proud of his heritage showing it wherever he can. The Singer is a very unusual show form China for professional, famous singers an on invitation only. Just to be invited is considered a honor. Dimash was invited as a completely unknown singer in China after one of the producers heard him as a wild card. He was at 22 years old the youngest ever and hoped to last at least a couple of episodes. His first performance made him a superstar in China literally overnight.
Dr. Qudaibergen (composition major recently awarded his Doctorate) he remained a fulltime student throughout his career and all his performances and projects were scheduled around his studies until now.
He does have his Master's Degree in composition, but has not yet received his Doctorate. His Doctorate is in musicology, but as of December 2020 he had not yet decided what field of research he will be studying for his thesis/dissertation.

HI Danielle, HI Lara, I am one of your subs and found you with your Dimash reaction video. Many of the voice teacher reactors also do a group called Pentatinox. They have a huge following on RU-vid and if you do a few videos of theirs, it adds thousands to your channel. What is odd is they are an A Capella group. They have been on RU-vid for several years with many postings . I read that they have collectively 5 Billion views of their songs. They do a version of Hallelujah that has 612 million views ? That seems like a lot ? If you have never heard of them, knowing your background, it would not be a surprise to you to understand why they are so popular just by hearing one of their songs. Creatively, they are simply off the charts and it would be easy for you to recognize this. Like Dimash, it shocks you. I realize that ever other commentator below will leave you a suggestion link. Most are a waste of your time. This one will not be. They just released a "90's Dance Medley" a week ago that already has 5 million views ? I will leave a link. It is hard to imagine doing a 90's Dance medley A Capella without using a drum machine or any of the keyboards that dominate that sound, but you will not be disappointed. I am not kidding. As others undoubtedly shared, this song shares a cry of pain from a Kazakh poet, imprisoned during the Stalin era of the Soviet Union, who had been told that his beloved wife had abandoned him. This was based on his letters to his wife. He's asking with whom he can now share his sorrows. He was later released, spent a few final months with his wife, and was then re-arrested and executed for opposing the communist regime.
