Oh yea I’m doing great! I travel the world learning new methods of singing and I happened to be in Thailand when the virus hit. We’re basically Covid free for months now as long as the boarders stay relatively closed. I hope you’re staying safe where you are ❤️
@@caligo7918 I know all of that, I've just never actually registered "The Face" because I always miss it. But with the freeze frame I can just feel the resentment. I may have trouble with nonverbal communication, but when it is presented in such a way I can pick it up.
Paul Simon caught this performance on CONAN. He called David Draiman to compliment him, and tell him this is one of best covers he’d ever heard of his masterpiece. Draiman was understandably stunned by this call from the songwriter!
I always like to say that David Draimen is the Lamborghini V-12 of vocalists. Smooth as butter on silk at low revs, then a throaty roar when you get towards the mid range, and finally an ungodly bellow of pure fury and sound when he goes full throttle. He’s amazing to listen to.
Something not a lot of people know is that David Draiman was a trained Jewish cantor. They are the ones that sing the prayers during services. They usually have very powerful voices. This was the first song by Disturbed I had heard that wasnt completely rock and I instantly fell in love with it. One of my favorite covers of all time.
-Draiman covers roughly two-and-a-half octaves from bottom to top. His vocals are so distinctive. -Disturbed had been nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Rock Performance for their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" while appearing on Conan. -David: "The fact that I was sick as a dog (laughs). I remember I was definitely fighting something off, but it was a cool experience. It was cool performing with an actual orchestra. It was really vibing and the mood helped, I think, enhance the delivery. The stars just aligned that night and everything went right." -
You're missing a great experience if you haven't had the chance to see them live. I've seen them 12 times so far and will go every single time they come close. David's voice is just as great live and they never disappoint. They also bring important issues to light.
This is by far one of the best vocals I've ever heard. I'm usually not on that prefers a cover over a original. But this cover is better then the original. You should watch the official video for this song. I cried like a baby. Especially knowing the meaning behind the song.
He is classically trained when he studied to be a cantor, someone who sings liturgy or bible/torah verses. He said he was excited to hear his voice like this because he hadn't heard his voice like this since he was a teenager!
Can I just say how wonderful it is to find a RU-vid vocal coach who allows themselves to be impressed by and love the material? Too many seem overly focused on proving their vocal coach skills by keeping generally unmoved unless they're describing some point of instruction. Having someone love this music, be impressed by the technique *and then* give us some insight into it is Best Teaching Method, imo. :)
David is so amazing. And it’s even more amazing when you learn he was sick during this performance.:) I actual prefer the live version to the recorded one. He sounds amazing either way but there’s so much more emotion in his live I feel. Love it.:)
His voice takes me on an emotional rollercoaster every time I hear this song. His voice is truly astounding. First time watching you and loved your reaction!!
Your facial reactions say it all !!! This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, and Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings... 😌 I always feel this song is like a rollercoaster ride....... slowly bringing you to the top, with nervous anticipation, then quickly crashing to the bottom, leaving a pit in your stomach.....Great reaction & I had a very similar reaction, to my very soul......
David Draiman has described himself as "sick as a dog" the night he performed this on Conan. 102° temperature and bronchitis to boot. He is a genuine baritone, with a massive vocal range, and was classically trained as a cantor in a synagogue when he was younger. I heard that they didn't even tell him they were going to use Auto-Tune, they just did it without his permission. He didn't find out until post, and he didn't even find out from them, he heard it in the track and confronted them with it. Man, was he ever pissed. From what I hear he hates Auto-Tune, 'cause he feels like it's cheating. You should go listen to the live concert version with Myles Kennedy.
This man CAN sing! I love the song before him and it took me a while to get that he was singing it slower than the original but he caught me with his voice from the very first time I heard it. He is AMAZING
He was actually a little perturbed by the slight auto-tune the show used on this... he never uses it. In reality, it kind of messed up his natural vibrato like auto-tune is so good for.
He was more than a little perturbed... He was livid. He was also suffering from a slight head cold and missed a lyric... but you'd never know 'cause he's such a pro...

I have no idea why really... But I have been totally binge watching this song and reactions.... You, you alone have the best reaction on RU-vid. The pure visible pleasure in your reaction of this perfect song is so, so satisfying... You have the best reaction video, hands down!
I absolutely love this version even though I grew up listening to the original. It's theatrical, powerful, sorrowful, and just friggin amazing. From what I understand, he was quite ill during this performance. Fever, weak etc.
Hey loved your reaction, don't know if you knew this but when the album this song is on was recorded, in 2015, it was just 12 months after David Dramen had major surgery on his vocal cords, because of polyps I read, from constant touring and performing since the band started in 2000. He was told it was very possible he would never sing again or at the least not like he could before. He purposely chose this song to cover BECAUSE of its vocal demands, just to prove he could still sing, he has amazing perseverance in my opinion. To be told you may never sing again but then make your comeback with this song....awesome
At your first break/critique; you said " is he going to open up" For those of us that know and love the version, your following responses are both expected and loved!
That vocal technique that you mentioned is called the "Yarl." It was used by alot of the singers from the 90's. Most notably Eddie Vedder, Lane Staley, Scott Stapp, and Scott Weiland.
I just tonight discovered your channel. I had an immediate and forceful reaction, not to a review, but to your appearance. You are a stunner, young lady.
keep in mind that A) he is a formally trained Cantor, and B) he was sick with a cold and sore throat at the time of this recording and still managed to deliver a flawless performance.
I've heard it said in the comment section of other reaction videos to this song that Simon & Garfunkle's version was the warning and Disturbed's version is the wrath for not heeding that warning.
I liked your reaction a lot! I love David's voice. Did you know that he was trained to become a Cantor as a kid/teenager? Please check out Falling in Reverse "The Drug in me is Reimagined" (2020). That's the completely "reimagined" version of the song "The Drug in me is you" (2011), so to really appreciate the vocalists development as a singer and an artist, you should watch the original at least in private or even better, react to both in one video and make a comparison. Another great performance to check out: Corey Taylor (Slipknot/ Stone Sour) singing "Snuff" live and acoustic in London. Greetings from Germany!

I'm a huge Disturbed fan. Since their very first song. David's voice has always amazed me. The done a similar song on their first album called Darkness. I reccomend that or to get more of a feeling for them check out Stricken. Amazing reaction and thanks for breaking it down so much. Shout out to Creed man. Their cover of Alice Cooper's Eighteen is amazing.
I love how she freezes him at 6:48 and goes on a rant about how he sings and it just looks like he's silently judging her and waiting for her to stop talking so he can keep singing. xD
Nailed how that tone is created to a T! I use this technique when singing Pearl Jam, this song and several others. It really helps excentuate tone. I reacted the exact same way when hearing this for the first time
Check out ‘A Reason To Fight’ (the official live video is really emotional, but not as much about the song as it is the meaning of the lyrics and ‘If I Ever Lose My Faith In You’ cover.

For a new band to listen to while lifting weights, or maybe you'll be inspired to start kickboxing is female fronted Ukrainian band Jinjer. Tatiana's vocals are equal parts beautiful and brutal. Pisces live session is where most start for the shock value, but Judgement & Punishment one-take almost equals it in that regard and is a much better technical showcase of her skills (the "live session" was to record their new drummer at the time and Tati's vocals are mostly right off the album in Pisces). Still you'll get more views on Pisces cuz some folks seek it out for that shock haha.
I love the rendition. The only thing i can critique is, I think he could have held the pause and let the reverb echo out at the very end after "in the soooouuuuund" just a second or two longer before "of silence".
He actually did that part slightly differently in the studio version. I played both versions simultaneously and posted it on my channel. (The two videos are the same except for how I displayed the graphs.)
You have probably had this request about 6000 times before, but I would really love your take on Jinjer. If you have never heard about them, I would start with "Pisces" and not do any pre research on it. If you know who they are, I would love to hear your review of "Judgement & Punishment" in the one take version.
