He is considered a great blues singer. Brasilian blues!!! Yeah!!!! Our culture, is much bigger than that showed in the world. I am very proud of it.

The bass player playing this show for him is Serginho Carvalho, which is one of the best bass players in Brasil. He was the son of the bass player of a band I sang in called Get Back, we did covers of rock pop classics. One day he came to our show to visit his dad and complemented our playing and my singing to me, then proceeded to give a class on dynamics and the fact that to be good we didn't have to make the audiences ears bleed. An invaluable and humbling experience that he delivered with utmost class.
A very beautiful Brazilian song, if you wanna check, is Bjork singing Milton Nascimento's TRAVESSIA. Her pronunciation is barely understandable, but it's the BEST VERSION OF IT EVER, in my opinion. She loves this song and listens to it at least once a week. She once was very impressed by Elis Regina singing O BÊBADO E O EQUILIBRSTA (circus clilp). It was the most intense musical experience she ever had. PS: The song means TO DEVOUR in a sexual way. 👀

Djavan is Blessed singing and playing acoustic guitar. He plays and sings justs like as the drums, you can feel the beat through his voice. Not a powerful singer, but his voice seems to come straigh from his heart to the mic. He's jass, funk, groove and also lots of brazillian POP music. And he is also a fantastic person. Just found this! First I saw your YES Reaction & you need to hear more complex YES with the GREAT JON ANDERSON but Brazilian Artist especially DJAVAN is one of my absolute favorite Composer/Singers. He's a national treasure & his songs have been recorded and sung by many Great Artist of Brazil. In fact he's returning hear to the US soon. I saw him Live in the late 80's first time! LOVE IT. BTW Brazil audiences always sing along and on key! He has a very delicate almost vulnerable voice as if it could veer off key or break but he never does and it's beautiful especially with his signature key changing style in his writing. He's very jazzy & funky! His slower ballads are simply breathtaking! Again the nasal sound is a quality of Brazilian singing & language. I like your REACTIONS!
I love the way you feel and analyse brazilian singers Beth! But most singers and songs are intrinsically related to the culture they belong to. So the lyrics are a very important part of it. I suggest you to translate those songs, or part of it, during your videos. That would enrich the understanding of the whole song, the feeling they are trying to transmit and the poetry involved. So when he uses the verb devorar he is doing a sensual methafore that indicates that his feelings for that person are so intense that seems like this survival need for food that humans have when they are starving... Is a feeling so intense that without it he could die ..

That's a nice song by Lenine. I had to explain the link between the title, the way the opening line sounds and Jackson do Pandeiro to a german friend though. As we often send each other troll names and puns in portuguese and german ("Cuca Beludo" and the likes) the "jack soul brasileiro" ~ "já que sou brasileiro" thing was a piece of cake.
Brazilian Portuguese has a characteristic (and lovely) nasality on certain consonants, that's why so many Brazilian singers sound amazing when they go full nasal. It's not an affectation, they're just singing like they speak. Thank heavens for that country.

The songs are "Porto solidão", "Solidão de amigos" abd "Voa liberdade". His voice was absolutely beautiful. Enjoy them and pick-up one.

I'm proud to say I've met him personally and have been invited to his home in Rio. I've also seen many of his performances and they are terrific! Even been to several rehearsals of his and his band, in Rio, as well. My mother translated one of his most popular, siganature songs, For de Lis, into English. It's titled "Upside Down."
