Gigi herself has admitted that she is an Alt-rock fan and that their band has been evolving towards the alt-rock genre when it comes to their covers. You mentioned the bands, Hole, Garbage, and The Cranberries, all of whom were (2 are still) great alt-rock bands of the 90's that has the same vibe and sound that this cover has. Your technical analysis of this cover is spot on! The skills required of the vocals is definitely high level and the combination of techniques from Dolores (Cranberries) Shirley (Garbage), and Courtney (Hole). They did a cover of Lady Gaga's "Remember us this way" that's not as grungy/alt-rock as this cover but has a subtle alt-rock feel as well that you should check out. THIS never knows. The nuance of the things she's doing in this song is soooooooo good. This reminds me of a late 90s, early 2000s goth roc...in the best way possible. This is so sexy and BEST cover out there. She's so sexy here but she's just wearing a t-shirt and it's so tasteful. She definitely draws us in. PLUS the band is wickedly stupid good. I had the fortune/unfortune of Unholy being my first Gigi experience. I thought "Wow! This is better than the original. This is where the song was meant to go."
