This song is incredibly sad, it's heavily implied to be related to the deaths/suicides of her friends, such as the "are you happy now" in direction to the haters who caused the horrible events. While there is no confirmation on this, it's the most popular opinion. Edit: oh wow how did this become the most liked comment-
The "are you happy" part is also asking Sulli that if she's finally happy niw that she's free because one interview someone asked her what her happiest moment is and Sulli said that she's never been happy
oh i just looked it up... apparently the gecko/dragon were her as herself and in her memories when she lost the gecko thingy she was losing herself like at the airplane where the gecko got knocked off the window... the “so are you happy now” could correlate w herself asking if she herself is truly happy... thought it could mean sulli or smth...
Iu has lost more than one person in a few years wich where like her best friends so its so sad. She made a beautiful song for them. May them rest in peace.
She lost so much more as well in her early childhood. When she was very young, her parents lost their business due to some legal technicalities. They sent her to her grandmother while trying to recuperate their lives. Her grandmother was very poor living then in a place in poor condition. Her Grandmother scrimped and saved what she could to further Lee Ji-euns singing career because she knew it was her dream. Her Grandmother paid and lost all her money to Idol Agency scammers. They were forced to live with other relatives that treated them badly always complaining that she should be studying other things instead of wasting her time trying to become an Entertainer and a singing (Idol) career. This is partly why she is so close to her grandmother who stuck by her to see her dream come true.🤔🙄😥😕😭💜💜💜💜👸😊
@@warrenlfrank She has been through so much. She is a strong girl but i don't know how she keeps smiling for us its heartbreaking. She can cry and we should not mind if she does we should help her.
@@eliseorban3086 Yes me too. She is very strong and to be able to achieve what she has and not become damaged by all she has been through. She is amazing. I wonder if that is why she has hard time to cry. Still staying strong. She said she can cry when in character (K-Drama) but in real life, she finds it hard to cry. Think many years holding it all in and being strong. Yes it is good for her to cry sometimes in real feel better. Yes we help her to be loyal Uaenas and support her 💜💜💜🙂 take care🙏
Meaning behind it: (From my POV) IU had three K-Pop idol friends, Sulli, Hara, and Jonghyun. Jonghyun represents the dragon, Hara is the lizard, and Sulli is the girl riding the dragon. Jonghyun, Hara and Sulli all committed suicide. The dragon, lizard and the girl were going in a different direction from IU because they committed suicide while IU is in a plane continuing her life and remembering the memories she has with her friends. This is from what I've heard so if you have something different then we got it from a different place. When IU said "Are you happy now? Finally happy now?" She means them being in a better place, leaving her behind. People think this song is a "love" song, it represents her love and her memories with them. She misses them alot, but hopefully she continues to do what she loves and make music for her fans. I personally always cry when I listen to this song, because I was a fan of Sulli, Jonghyun, and Hara. But they decided to do what they did and now they're in a better place. I'm glad you got the meaning behind the song. Respect. Because the song itself is really emotional. If you made it this far then thanks.
@@yawnszn some suspect it kinda is. especially at the end it's like she's looking kinda mad at the camera while asking "are you happy now?" as if she's asking the people that said all those bad things to them. (not excluding that it's about iu, but it's probably both)
Actually, Suga IS a music producer. He produced this song, he produced and won an award for a song that he produced for Suran, called "Wine", and he's a full member of the Korean Music Copyright Association. He also produced all of the songs on his recently released mix tape and he has numerous credits on BTS songs. He has credits for over 100 songs to his name, as a producer.
jUnG hOsEoK iS a leGeNd I think you can say it is both, of course the song is from her perspective and how those events have shaped her and her life. I’m sure the passing of some of her closest friends affected her more than anyone was even able to see, saying the song is about herself doesn’t mean it isn’t also about the lives and deaths of some of the friends she never really got to say goodbye to
I love how you felt and analysed the song. You perfectly understood what it was about. IU went through some terrible times these past years, losing three close friends to suicide (including her best friend). The musical progression of the song is what I would call "optimistic melancholy". It brings me to tears yet gives me a glimmer of hope. Glad you liked the song, love your reactions as always!
Hey Justin! SUGA just released his new mixtape “D-2” and released a music video called “Daechwita”. Maybe check that out next! (also I love your videos ❤️)
This song’s most popular “conspiracy” is that its about her friends Shinee’s Jonghyun and F(x)’s Sulli. The word “eight” can be understood in many ways - The number 28 or a infinity sign. In the music video, as you saw, the scene when Iu goes outside and it changes to a animated cartoon scene, the white dressed girl could be Sulli. Since she is wearing white and that means something significant. The lizard that Iu interacts with in the music video can be implied as Jonghyun. Because many people gave Jonghyun the nickname of a lizard since Jonghyun loved charmander. He then turned into a dragon and flew with sulli. She feels like she has lost everything which includes her memories and in the beginning of the music video, it says if she wants to save her memories. In the lyrics, it says “leaving without a hello/greeting” which can imply sulli and jonghyuns sudden departure. Also, it says “we dance under the orange sun without a shadow” which can also imply that they all can live freely without the “hate” which can be the shadow. Iu can be seen in the airplane looking at sulli and jonghyun crying because she finally “sees” her friends living freely. Something that is very significant in this is when she says “there is no such thing about a depressing ending” which hints at sulli and jonghyuns death (“ending”) At the end of the music video, you can see Iu’s smile but it looks like it doesnt reach all the way to her eyes. This is so sad. This music video is so beautifully crafted and sang and I hope everyone loves it! (Im korean and I wrote this from my point of view, if anything is bothersome to you, please dont hate lol)
I loved it this song sooo much! So proud of suga and IU. Suga is also a co-writer of this song with IU. Suga just released a new song/music video and album as agust d. Agus is suga backwards and DT stands for Daegu town (Suga’s hometown in Korea). I don’t think this song is completely sad. It’s more of capturing the bittersweet moment of accepting loss. That the people or person that you’ve lost will live forever in your memories.
“Finally happy now are you” backwards is “You are now happy, Finally” and it hits me deeply Edit: i just realized it could mean that the person is finally happy in their afterlife idk this song is roller coaster of emotions
In case no one has mentioned it, you should check out the Explain video on DKDKTV's channel for a theorized meaning behind the song lyrics and music video. Rest in Paradise Jonghyun, Sulli, and Hara
IU and SUGA wrote and produced this song together, IU is very talented singer-songwriter-producer, having a lot of great songs, one of my favorite: My dear friend, through the night and rain drop.
Omg yes that end look! Justin I will request you to watch "Hotel Del Luna". Hotel del luna changed my perspective. Even music wise favorite too,it has one of the best OST. IU is an amazing actress. It broke my heart when IU smiled with teary red eyes in that series. Goosebumps! She's totally into the character when she is acting. Then here she has actual reasons to be sad...her life has been hard. Losing friends, broken family etc. Love her!
I cry every time this song comes on... I’m not even lying, it’s either tears, or super close to tears. I relate to her feelings so much... At first I thought this song was a happy song that could be in Zootopia 2. That was my exact thought , it was because of the joyful rhythm. Then I turned on subtitles and started crying...
This song is about how her friends left her when she became an idol. she wants to erase this memory but at the end realized that all memories are precious and even if they are bad they are a part of we can not erase. ""EIGHT" is like a parting song for those who left this world without even saying goodbye but also about hoping to meet them again someday; as IU has personally experienced being left by her close friends in the kpop industry (i.e., Jonghyun, Sulli, Goo Hara)" "jieun's way of teaching us that letting go isn't equated to forgetting, because letting go means mustering the courage to accept that we don't have control of the painful things such as parting, but we have control on how are we going to deal with the memories of it, either make those memories a burden and let it hurt us 'til we get numb or treasure it and become a source of motivation to go on in life." BTW idk if this is accurate but i took this from twitter so idk.
iu sid that her character lost her memories and trying to get them back. and that the song is about herself nd her age of 28, its not about her friends or earsing bad memories
*usually i get bore of listening one song over and over again but I always come back to this song* ..... My skin shivers a lot when hear this song . Listen this song when you're sad , y'all know what I'm talkin about .
I’ve been asking you to react to IU and glad that you finally did and I knew you would like her! IU is one of the most popular and respected artist and actress in Korea by all ages. You should also check out her concert clips to appreciate how awesome she is on her concerts and how she interact with her fans. She is also known as the queen of encore after each of her concerts where after the actual concert ends, she changes her clothes to just jeans and sweatshirts and ask her fans what songs they want to hear and she sings them for like another two hours! No one does that in the world but her!
Me: sees the song Me: *starts crying I was and still am a fan of all 4. May their souls rest in peace. Goo hara, Kim jonghyun, Choi jin-ri (sulli). You will stay in our hearts forever❤
@@yawnszn yes it is the song "eight" is about the friends iu lost and how she is sad to remember the pain but also wants to meet them and remember them
It hold the most beautiful melody, the most beautiful production, and also had the saddest lyrics, the heartbroken meaning. It really hits different...... Respect to IU, SUGA and those people we love.
Wether she did not mention those 3 friends. That passed away. But a slight hint was there. She would'nt mention it just because if she did. Media and SocMed would go crazy about it. And they would probably think IU was still not recovering from that trauma. Cause if i was the artist i would also hide my emotions in this kind of moment. Love the song. But also sad about it. It sounds very uplifting but if you knew the true meaning. You would cry which i did.
Can you plz react to _ Girls Generation: You Think _TTS : Twinkle _Taeyeon : a poem called you(Lyrics) _Taeyeon top 12 emotional singing(concert edition)
IU lost three friends in a very short period of time from suicide. Thankfully she promised her fans that she will not leave them and I believe her. She is crazy strong.
It's really nice song. Suga and IU composed it and they wrote their lyrics. Both did great. I really like Suga as a producer. IU's voice is really beautiful, and in my opinión their voices fit so well. I have always liked IU as a songwriter, specially for her meaningful lyrics. This song is pretty sad. She had one of similar theme (but ballad) called Lullaby. It is a very beautiful and heartbreaking song. Please take a listen to it. It is a side track in her Love Poem Album.
Please listen to AGUST D's (Suga/Yoongi/Agust D) newest album called D2!!! The title song is daechwita and all the other songs have such deep meaning. I hope you also watch the lyric videos to the other songs (especially Dear My Friend) :)))
This is a powerful union, EL REY SUGA with its impeccable and impressive production and composition together with the voice and personality of PRINCESS IU is unmatched. We look forward to the second collaboration tomorrow.
Firstly, I love your cute, honest and refreshing reaction! I was waiting for you to know that Suga produced the song☺️ I really love your videos! Keep going! 💜
The song talks about her best friends jonghyun from shinee is the lizard is flying and also talking about suli from f(x) we lost a pure hearts person and legends Rest In Peace jonghyun and suli ❤️your fan from Qatar 💗🇶🇦love u Justin ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song have two meanings one is the about both iu and suga being 28 years old this year that's why they collaborated she said that even if she is 28 y.o now she's still forever young. The othere meaning does hold the good memory of the persons she lost the mv itself is about she lost her memory and she was reloding her lost memory and when she remembers she starts crying and smiling at the memory that went back to her
