then you should know this isnt skynyrd. this is ronnies knockoff brother who used ronnies death to make himself rich. he literally did the exact opposite of what this song by ronnie was saying to do.

Really like this band but I'm more of a 'pre-crash' fan. That's where you go to look for the true magic that is/was Lynyrd Skynyrd. Also a fan of The Rossington Collins Band with Dale Krantz (Rossington) singing and this would be post crash. "One Good Man" would be an excellent choice. You should check them out as well, since Gary Rossington and Allen Collins were two of the three guitarist of Skynyrd before the crash along with Steve Gaines who also died in the crash. Leon Wilkeson and Billy Powell from Skynyrd were also members of Rossington Collins Band. Check them out please.

I'll always love them, along with Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Black Oak Arkansas, CDB, Lizard, Allmann Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band... You just hit another rabbit hole 😎. I highly recommend Free Bird( Oakland Coliseum), Sweet Home Alabama, Workin' for MCA and Gimme Three Steps.

Took me a day after watching your reaction to get my thoughts and feelings sorted out. I was 17 when the plane crash happened and every time I think about what we lost it rips my guts out. Only those alive at the time can really relate to that. So what you have to understand is that in the video you reacted to every word, every note, is a tribute and a sad salute to those we lost in the crash. If you keep that in mind his performance makes a lot of sense. I saw this current lineup about 8 years ago. They sounded great and it was a very emotional nostalgic trip.

Excellent commentary of Lynyrd Skynyrd Beth! You nailed it! I would like to note the guitarist with the hat is Huey Thomasson founder of the Southern rock band The outlaws. My all time favorite. Ask for guitarist, songwriter and vocalist. See hurry sundown by The outlaws. The tall guitarist is Ricky Medlock of the southern rock band Blackfoot who also is a master guitarist, songwriter, and phenomenal vocalist. See highway song by Blackfoot. This is truly an All-Star lineup. I saw the original Skynyrd three times and they were always great. Both the outlaws and Blackfoot though were underrated except in southern rock circles. Thanks, Dave

What's also sad, is that three of the people onstage here are also now dead. Billy Powell (piano) Ean Evans (bass), and Hughie Thomasson (guitar- he's the one playing the strat) are all gone now, too. Hughie was also a member of the band The Outlaws. Johnny and the guys who came later will always be seen as capable, but Ronnie and the band from the 70s live on in our memories. I love the way you broke everything down with Johnny's singing, perhaps you might do that with Ronnie some day. Songs like Saturday Night Special or The Ballad of Curtis Lowe might be good picks.

Greatest band of all time, IMO. In one way or another almost anyone can relate to their songs. Even though the line-up has changed, their style and messages have not. Gary Rossington is the only original band member left. Ricky Medlocke has been in and out of the band since the early 70's. You really need to do a deep dive into them, especially the pre-crash era. I HAVE PARTIED AT RONNIE'S GRAVESITE WHILE READY THE LATE GREAT CDBs words of love aimed at all lost members. I know the band touring now is a great band in itself but you don't replace Ronnie, Cassie , Steve,Allen Collins, Ed Burns, Leone Wilkerson, Artimis yes this band means the world to most of us and absolutely couldn't imagine life without LS and their music being carried on by the ones left behind. I know and completely believe Ronnie would had been on board with the continuation as Skynyrd not Rossington Collins as per their intentions and yes Johnny you absolutely made big brother proud. I could tell some stories but those memories will stay with me for ever. I have never been able to thank my ex brother in law the proper way because although it was the surviving members he to went to school with Gary Ronnie, and Allen and was lucky enough to get up close and personal with the surviving members along with Ricky Medlock, And Donnie Vanzant thank you Toby for sharing your childhood and beyond so that as an ole man now I can cherish meating my idols for who they truly were simply the Greatest rock band period drop the mic

Rickey Medlocke dosent get half the credit that he should. Rickey Medlocke (born February 17, 1950) is an American musician, best known as the frontman/guitarist for the Southern rock band Blackfoot and a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. During his first stint with Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1971 to 1972, he played drums and sang lead on a few songs that would initially be released on 1978's "First and Last". Medlocke would rejoin Blackfoot in 1972 and later returned to Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 as a guitarist with whom he continues to tour and record today.

Hi, Simple Man was an anthem for many of the original band generation. Pre-crash or post-crash the song spoke to who many of us feel we should be. The song is almost a sermon to live up to what you should be. The words and the vocals are important, but the leads and rhythm section drive the soul. Good choice.

One of the best songs ever written, but it should be the pre-planecrash band, Ronnie was better and Steve Gaines (guitar) was pure magic. Southern Rock is one of the most interesting music genre out there, it's so incredibly wide, always something for everyone and always heartfelt and genuine. And as they say "it's a family affair", pretty much all Southern Rock bands have something that ties them to each other. Once you reach Muscle Shoals Studio in your research, then you'll see what people like Duane Allman did not only for American music but for the music over here in Europe. Thank you for this video! 👍

Wasn't only Ronnie that died, Steve Gaines (deeemed by Ronny has the most talented and the future of the band) also died, also 2 backups and several other technicians. But that killed the band straight away. Ronnie and Steve were tremendously talented (Ronnie wasnt a great singer by any means but he was a general in a band you just dont see today, think they were over 30 at one point) and Steve was probably one of the best rhytmic players when he died (only 27). To me it was an "The day music died" event all over again, becoming the decade music died when Stevie Ray died 8 years later....Johnny is ok, and they still have Gary but Gary (think he was the only BIG part of the band that survived the plane crash, might be wrong but im 90% sure) was always the quiet part and Johnny doesn't have near the charisma Ronnie . RIP PS They had Artymusas well if I remember correctly, from the originals

Too bad for this first choice. You really should see and hear them in their prime.

Rossington-Medlocke band plays Lynyrd Skynyrd. They have finally descended to the Holiday Inn lounge band the used to laugh about.

This (and MANY of Lynyrd Skynyrd's songs) were played/covered by my old band and I during high-school in the 80's and through the 90's. But, unfortunately we didn't record things much back then being the poor hill-billies we were. I never sang at all back in those days. I wasn't even often the "lead" guitarist! (Mostly relegated to rhythm, aka "bitch" guitar!) However, a few months ago I did sing and play a version of "Simple Man" on my guitalele. This song is a "classic"! I used to try and hide my past because even then, I disliked the "red-neck" aspects of the culture in which I was raised. (I personally enjoy being thought of as a "hill-billy" instead of a "red-neck" or "white-trash". All those terms have been used put down folk from my neck of the woods.) Word definitions change depending on when, where, and how they are being used. I won't cry as much if you call me a "hill-billy". PLEASE understand that when I see the so-called "confederate flag" being flown, I see a hate-filled symbol that reminds me of the swastika that Nazi's used. (I used to only think it was a dumb tribute to southern "heritage" that many of the folk I grew-up with espoused. I didn't mind Dukes of Hazard or even Lynyrd Skynyrd displaying it back then!) But, the subtle meaning underneath has grown. The original Lynyrd Skynyrd was mostly made-up of blues/rock musicians from GA and FL. (It will peev Trump-supporters to learn that most of them were actually "hippies" who were rejecting their parents and grandparents ways of thinking!) I know for a fact MY band(s) a scant generation later from here in the "south" of the USA emulated them for more progressive reasons! Lynyrd Skynyrd were (mostly) NOT "red-neck"! Oh yeah! My recent version of "Simple Man": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JQ5PY9z15U0.html [Sorry for the "Ted-talk" Beth!]

Ronnie and Johnny were BOTH great in MY book! (I wrote the above diatribe not even considering "which" brother you were going to be talking about!)

I can tell the two of them apart vocally, but ONLY because I have covered those songs so many times over the past 40 years! (I bet most folk would have a hard time distinguishing the voices of these two brothers!)

Johnny seems a little "sharp" on the notes... Ron always seemed a little "flat" on the notes... Another brother of this band was Donnie! (of 38 Special!)

So, not to be a jerk about it, but their original lead singer was Ronnie Van Zant, there was a plan crash that killed him and a few others, later his youngest brother Johnny Van Zant, who looks and sounds a lot like him, took over as lead singer, and they had a brother Donnie Van Zant that was the lead singer of the band 38 special. I'm not actually sure, but from their age in this video, I think that's Johnny Edit - Oh, I jumped the gun, you already know. Nevermind

The music you loved in your youth sounds different as you get older. One has compromised their values and ideals. The music isn’t as truthful anymore. We have become delusional to some degree
