Her placement is in the forehead , I can hear that clearly. That s why she doesn t open that much. She is closing the vowels and using more pharyngeal than others . My coach is learning me the same thing and I also can’t open too much but I’ve noticed it s way better this way for my vocal cords and for my high range as well. So happy to be able to hear all that :)

I absolutely love that you described the song as ‘haunting’ that is the perfect description.

How I understand the term mixed voice personally is it’s a blend between chest voice and head voice. To make it easier to visualize I think of it in percentages of how much of the two are being used/mixed together. For example, big classic Broadway belts (typically living around around A4-E5 for sop and alto and B3-F4 for ten and bass) are predominantly chest voice. I think of those having like a 100-80% chest voice with a 0-20% head voice. But singers such as Ariana Grande use a lot of head voice in their belts. She’s usually using abt 70%~ head voice in a lot of her belts. This definition is just mine tho and is the way I comprehend “mix”

5:54 So from what ive heard, when people sing in a lighter sound, there is actually more air coming through, and this air comes from our head voice, thats why if u sing quietly, even in the “chest voice” this lighter approach allows you to sing way higher, and thats what they call a mix (mix between chest voice and head voice/falsetto). For example, I cant go higher then a G#4 in full chest (belt) but if I sing it somewhere light, I can go up to the 5th octave and still sound chesty/strong. But thats just my opinion.
