Vocal Coach REACTS to SO HYANG-ARIRANG ALONE 

SoHyang is not only a very technical singer, she is a very emotional one and she always tries to connect to the audience. Sometimes she even cry on stage. In her last interview she said that to be too technical may prevent you to send the emotional message.

She supported and resonated on that Bb5 like who does that??? Shes not from this world

This song is about the reunification of North and South Korea. There are about 600 versions. Hanibols version Arirang Alone. The hope is to meet with two ships at Dokdoya Island which is in the eastern sea. This is according to many the most emotional and she was crying during the rehearsals of this performance. She slays all other versions of Arirang really and my dream is that she will sing this with a North Korean singer at Dokdoya in our lifetime. Maybe listen to it again in another light?

Arirang is a traditional Korean folk song that possibly originated as a song expressing sorrow between two lovers. It also became a resistance anthem during the Japanese occupation in the early 1900s. It was sung by the people to help strengthen and unify the nation during that time. Today, it is considered the unofficial national anthem. That's one of the reasons why she sort of encouraged the audience gesturing them to sing along with her during certain parts of the song.

the Korean Ice Skate Dance Team used her version of Arirang alone in the Olympics it was beautiful to watch ...

Personally, I feel her covers of Arirang and Bridge Over The Troubled Water are her best performances ever because in addition to showing her vocal prowess she took the pain to arrange the song so that the final outcome could be some enthralling. Sometimes artists arrange the song just to show off their vocal abilities and that could result in destroying the beauty of the song and singing with underwhelming or no emotions. Both of these 2 song covers of hers are arranged wonderfully to bring life to the song and her vocals just add on to that magical breathtaking music.

Arirang, Korea with a long history, was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on December 5, 2012. In the lyrics of this song, the East Sea and Dokdo appear, showing that it is the territory of Korea.

This song is kind of like the u official Korean anthem. Sohyang, in general, is known for her emotional performance- she really captivates and transports the audience. She has quite an array of performances to choose from. She was most recently on a competition called "King of the Masked Singer" (yes she's wearing a mask so you won't be able to see her pretty face), & had some really notable performances like "Breathe", "Dear Love", "Do You Know", and "Mona Lisa" and her voice seems to just get better with age. Alternatively she has a lot of older stuff that's great, too a lot of people like "Everyone", "Fate", "Where are You", and some people like "It's Only My World" because it's a side of her we don't usually see-but honestly whatever you watch of hers will be great!

FYI, So Hyang just went on Immortal Songs 2 a couple days ago and sang 'You Raise Me Up'. But it was supposedly a completely different version than the one she's been performing in the past. The actual episode airs May 12th, so be prepared to react to her performance :)

If you haven't already, check out Park Hyo Shin - Wildflower. He's another Korean vocalist. The MV is all done in one shot and is all live audio. The song was co-wrote by Hyo Shin and the man you'll see playing the piano. It's about the hardships of his life and how he came to blossom in the end. It's a truly beautiful song and the emotions and skill Hyo Shin delivers renders me speechless everytime.

Hi! Heads up, Arirang are folk songs in Korea. Each region in the country has their own. It looks she took the most famous ones and stuck a bolt of lightning in it. Many thanks for the lovely reaction. It is like you think it is btw. Sohyang is an incredibly humble, bright and positive personality too, as well as a very inspiring vocalist. The more you know about her, the more you get to love her really. Arirang btw is like the unofficial anthem of both Koreas. There have been a lot of different versions and covers of it over the years, and Sohyangs' live cover of the Arirang Alone version is in my honest opinion one for the ages. It is difficult for us foreigners to really understand what the lyrics convey and mean to the Korean People when they hear them (this is a very sentimental song for them). I have to say though that even without said foreknowledge, Sohyang still captivates and moves me with this one. Music is the universal language, after all. If you want to do more from her in the future, "Where are you" and "Everyone" come to mind. One of the reasons why this song is so emotionally charged is because it was originally written as an anthem of the hope of korean reunification - the lyrics reference korean folk songs (arirang), but also talk about coming together again (when we hold hands etc.). It's really amazing to see you react to this, thank you 😊

It was awesome seeing you react to SoHyang as a vocalist. She is truly a one-of-a-kind soloist. I loved this arrange of arirang because it really helped support what she wanted to express without covering her up and distracting the audience. The mix of classical music and traditional korean folk was on point. If you have the time, could you also react to Mamamoo's Backwoods on the same show? Mamamoo is a kpop idol group known for their vocal talent, and they've been invited to the show more times than any other idol groups because of their passion for performance. Their "Delilah", "Love Story of a Girl", and "Passion Flower" are also outstanding. They performed these covers only one year after they debuted, along with veteran singers just as famous as SoHyang, which is unexpected from the general idol girl groups. That moment when she sings "it will flow, and it became one" always brings tears to my eyes when I think about the meaning of this songs. It really deserved to be the anthem for the reunification. I saw the videos of the concert that was made in North Korea and it is amazing to see a concert hall full of North koreans sing their hearts out with the South Koreans singers !

Another Korean singer you should check out is Song Sohee. She’s 21 years old and sings more traditional Korean songs, but her voice is wonderful. Her performance of Lost on Immortal Songs 2 is lovely.

I honestly don't stan So Hyang or even follow her. But everytime she performs on Immortal Song or this kind of show I always watch it because she's the best singer to me. So hyang one of my favorite female vocalists. Her performance of “ everyone” is beyond amazing. Hope you react to that. But I have a request that you react to her closest and best friend, “Park Ki Young”, I like Park Ki Young because they have about the same vocal range but Park Ki Young is a tad more versatile and can belt them with equal emotional impact and power in rock, pop, soul, jazz flamenco, and classical ( opera). But I’m a professional singer and my singing friends unanimously agree that both So Hyang and Park Ki Young are not only world class vocalists but equal in talent. What I’m trying to say is I believe Park Ki Young deserves far more reactions and I promise you and your subscribers who love So Hyang ( and I am among them) that you won’t be disappointed listening to a Park Ki Young song. They are both about the same age ( early 40s but look amazing for their age!) and the closest and best of friends.
