'Time to take her home her dizzy head is conscience laden' it's a really underappreciated lyric cos imo the girl wants to stay but he's finding the nice guy reasons to take her home. These songs are written from experience..no doubt. (How did she not realise it was a cadaver search for a body?! Twice the dogs began to smell her, beths off for meditation to rammstein or puddle of mudd!)
Of all the great rock singers of the 90's (and there were tons), I think Scott was the most overlooked/underrated. Not many could hang with him vocally.
I don’t think he was overlooked honestly. Everyone still recognizes his greatness… Maybe Kurt Cobain was in the spotlight, mostly by the pop mainstream, but the real grunge/rock fans recognized him.
@@SpectorEuro4 def hasn’t been given his due. the guy grew leaps and bounds as a singer & completely changed tones and textures at the drop of a hat. I don’t know any other singers in that time period who could go from his work in rock n roll, jazz, pop, electro, easy listening…to doing a completely legit Christmas album. His versatility set him apart… and put him back in a different league, that no one has articulated publicly. The man was one of a kind
@@SpectorEuro4 Of course not, but there are always people in the comment section that have to drop the same old dumb "he was underrated" comment when they have nothing interesting to say.
There was alot of underrated singers and bands from the 90s over looked just from the crazy amount of talent to come out at the time i would say scott and shannon hoon are super underrated
He couldn't stay clean long enough to continue his career. He was ordered by a judge to get clean before he was allowed to tour. And as we all know he didn't tour much due to the court order.
I would've loved to have seen Scott sing a Black Crowes song like "She talks to Angels" he would've killed it. Of course, Chris Robinson sang those songs like no one else could back then, but still.
@Metallicaleb you're entitled to your opinion. I respectfully disagree. STP was good because the DeLeo brothers are amazing and Scott wrote great lyrics. And of the singers of that time in that genre - Staley and Cornell, too name two - he ranks a very distant last. No comparison.
Oh yes, back when MTV was still good and played proper music. I miss the 90's, especially the first half of the decade when Grunge/Alt/Indie rock dominated.

Scott used to sing with a warm voice, so clean and pure...
RIP Scott. One hell of a singer! I saw him much later on when he was fronting Velvet Revolver and he was more of a showman by then, though with diminished vocal power. The first 2 STP albums are still among the greatest of the last 30 years...
Agreed- although I would say that all the STP albums were some of the best of the last 30 years. Scott was in his prime when he made those records and hadn't yet began to deteriorate
@@Ratbiker48 - Cornell definitely had a wide range. But, he tended to use the echo of his mouth at times. I counted 9 variations in his voice {that includes the "echo"}, and counted 16 variations for Weiland. Weiland was also able to flip through registries with an impressive ease.
Lucky enough to have seen Scott live 5 time with STP and was never let down. Just like so many other he is miss so much. Hope he's found the peace he was unable to find in life now, RIP.
Irony: Beth keeps talking about how it's a sunny feeling song. Scott Weiland said that the song was inspired about the story of a girl who was kidnapped and later found dead.

Thanks Beth that was a really interesting take on a great tune. The thing about Scott is, when he went on to front Velvet Revolver, he sounded at times like a different singer. Falling to Pieces spring to mind, which is pretty emotional when you know Scott's back story.
I don't think it's Strange, i think it's only the music style Who does It like that, grunge is really a melancolic style of music. I wasn't There in this period (i'm born in 1997) and It still feel to me to be fill with a lot of nostalgia.
Totally agree it’s weird, I was born in 81 and all these songs bring me back to junior and high school, fantastic musical times with some unfortunately troubled souls playing it
Woke up, made some coffee. Saw the notifcation for Beth and Stone Temple Pilots unplugged and knew immediately that my day was about to start amazingly. 😊
Healthy stunning Scott Unbelievable talent, sadly gone and greatly missed Supreme vocal talent cannot be rivalled Layne Staley was a master vocalist too Unique styling they both possessed. Never gets old, timeless Legendary
I was lucky enough to see STP live, right in front of me in his rocking chair for this one, back in 1993 and then again with Velvet Revolver. He was AMAZING both times. R.I.P Scott 🤘
Rest In Peace,Scott... Rest In Music! Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland... even Michael Hutchance and, obviously, Jeff Buckley! The best voices of an entire generation, if not among the best ever, gone too soon...
Kurt Cobain and Shannon Hoon, too… Way too many of the great grunge-era vocalists are gone, primarily because of hard drugs like heroin. While members of bands like The Rolling Stones and Mötley Crüe are still alive and well…
Check him out with the remaining members of The Doors singing like Jim Morrison. Crushed it. Only guy that could cover him, which you wouldn't think till you hear it. He could basically sing anything and mimic alot of artists if he stepped in. Bowie, Morrison, etc. I'm not suprised he has good technique here. I always assumed he did and he was more of a technical singer imo. Which is how he pulled off all those mimics when stepping on for bands.
My buddy Travis Former singer of Days of the New sang on that Doors special. I thought a few people did well, I mean their was inky one Jim but it was a cool thing to do.
Beth, you're like a breath of fresh air and a roomful of sunshine all at once. I just stumbled onto your channel and it put me in a great mood. Very positive vibe. Love it! Please keep doing what you do.
Matthew Charette yes I was thinking the same thing. The head bangers ball is a better acoustic. There is a video of him in London singing it in a park and it’s probably my favorite version. It is horrible video quality but still legendary nonetheless.
I feel so lucky to have been a kid in the 90s and raised on this music. I'm sure nostalgia is a factor, and I love all eras of rock, but 90s rock is the best. Rip Scott Layne Chris Kurt
His transformation through depression and drug abuse still blows my mind. His young and robust appearance here looks like an entirely different person from the velvet revolver era Scott
I laughed at the imagery. "I love the drums, I think thats why I feel its so relaxing. I wish they could just play behind me as I walk down the street."
Hi Beth! I've been following your channel for a few months now, and I can't say I am anything but impressed. Your analysis is very interesting, and very intuitive to someone who is not a singer. I have learned so much. Very excited to see more of your analysis.
Your song selection is fantastic. Practically unparalleled in this genre of channel. Your knowledge and diction could have me listening to you all day outside of your proper vocal capabilities. Wonderful.
Beth, your analysis is SO spot on!!...i enjoy watching ur vids, you tutor, yet enjoy the art......you are an impressive young lady, educated in your craft, honest, and well spoken......i appreciate ALL of that!!.....glad you got to analyze Scott.....he is one of my favs of all time.....he had skills eh?.....TY!!
STP holds a special place in my heart, its the music I can always sing no matter the mood or emotions i feel. But I am still waiting on your reaction to Blind Melon! I want your hot take on the AMAZING Shannon Hoon
Interesting that this makes you think of a beautiful summer day, for me it provides the comfort of childhood memories. Contrary to these associations though, song is in part about a bad relationship that Weiland was in and a high profile murder in the San Diego area, IIRC. The lines "When the dogs do find her / Got time to wait for tomorrow / to find it, to find it" and "Where you going to with the mask I found?" are references to the murders, with the lines about the dogs being police body sniffing dogs, the part about having time to wait because the girl was dead, and the mask being a funeral mask (which is most likely just a figurative piece). The verses are more about the bad relationship/break up. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/plush-195035/ Thanks for all the great videos Beth!
I didn't know any of the history behind this song, but I was kind of surprised when she it made her think of a beautiful summer day. I was like, isn't this a sad song? I always felt like how he sings the words almost comes out like how someone consoles themselves when they're in grief. At the very least, it always sounded contemplative to me.
I'm so glad you listened to this song :) Plush has been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard it as a little kid. Scott Weiland will be missed, he truly had an amazing talent for music. So thank you for this Beth :D
His performance of Break On Through with the (then) the surviving members of The Doors would be a good choice. He absolutely killed it. Atlanta would be another good one. Prepare to be amazed.
Scott Weiland may not have been the greatest vocalist of the 90's, but I think he came up with the best vocal melodies. I think over STP was probably the most talented band of the "grunge" era.
My favorite band of all time... STP has barely more than a handful of albums, but I think I have about 90 STP and STP related CD's. One of the best bands of all time. Someone should have suggested that Beth looks at the VH1 Storytellers performance of Kitchenware & Candybars....
Love your work Beth. I've been into vocal coaches reacting lately, and you're in a league of your own above them. I love how much you interact and share your expertise.
