The original Within Temptation song is stunning, but this duet, backed by the orchestra, takes it to a new level. It's truly the best duet ever. Sharon has one of the most beautiful, ethereal voices I've ever heard. Anneke compliments her with absolute perfection taking the heavier, "alto" line. Anneke also exudes charisma effortlessly.

fun fact.... SHARON had lost her voice for about 3 days prior to this massive one-off show... She got it back the morning of the show.... no rehearsal time left !!!! And it was not perfectly normal when it returned... said it had a CHORUS quality or something like that.

Beth - thank you for doing this. Your channel is easily one of the very best reaction sources anywhere. I really appreciate your scholarly explanations of various topics. We just don't see enough reactions to the ever-evolving Within Temptation band. Nightwish is more popular but Robert Westerholt and Sharon den Adel are, arguably, the King and Queen of symphonic metal. You are also the first credible reviewer that did not criticize Sharon's use of her 'breathy' head voice, something she uses to make that lightness you spoke of. Feel free to do more WT... :)

I am so glad you came to Within Temptation and i loved your reaction. The whole concert is worth a reaction, especially when you consider, that Sharon was ill and they thought of cancelling the show, but she somehow managed to pull this off. Being around for over 20 years, Within Temptation has a wide catalogue of songs worth a reaction. To name a few: Mother Earth The Promise The Heart of everything Angels Memories Faster Stairway to the Skies Paradise (feat. Tarja) And we run (feat. Xzibit; Metal + Rap cool combo) Raise your Banner (feat. Anders Frieden) Endless War The Purge I think that were to much songs but hey, one may dream :D Anyway keep up your work i really enjoy your reactions.

Sharon has also sung with Tarja, although I find that the live performances of their song have all been a little shaky. And if you liked this, you'd probably enjoy Halestorm feat. Amy Lee from Evanescence. A lovely piano ballad with two amazing vocal performances.

I love nature in all its nuances and I love the song of the nightingale and Sharon is the nightingale. Two fantastic voices that complement and integrate perfectly, this interpretation is a true masterpiece. Thanks for making me cry

Anneke always looks like she's best friends with everybody she sings with. I think she actually is. Even when she sings by herself, she looks like there is nowhere else in the world she would rather be. You saw the way she interacted with Devy on "Ih-Ah" and said very similar things. Another great song that she collaborated on is Ayreon's "Comatose" with Jonas Renkse from Katatonia ("Old Heart Falls" is a great song to react to from them). Or, you could check out one of her solo songs which are more pop-style music. I'd recommend "Saturnine" from The Isolation Sessions.

Definitely recommend you check out Anneke with her old band The Gathering - particularly the performance of the song Travel at the TG25 concert at Doornroosje. (The video on RU-vid is marked "unofficial video" but it's top quality. I think they took the official audio recording of the event and set it to several different videos taken by the crowd, to provide multiple camera angles.)

Anneke van Giersbergen was front woman of the band The Gathering which is one of my favorite bands. Check out the song Travel, studio version; a song about Mozart. The live version looses lots of the subtle things. Both singers worked with Ayreon.

Sharon den Adel puts lovely lilts in her high notes similar to the very best country singers. Shania Twain and Melissa Etheridge and KD Lang and Patsy Cline have a similar sincere quality. Floor Jansen in acoustic How's the Heart can carry off even more difficult trills with more power, but it seems technical more than heartfelt. Another singer with this in the symphonic genre is Chiara Tricarico. Especially in Rabbit in the Moon she carries off a few of these...and the song is about a deeply spiritual story.

As others have said, the whole Black Symphony show is amazing. Their performance of Mother Earth at Black Symphony is in my opinion, incredible. Ice Queen and Our Solemn Hour are great too.

Added a few options cause I couldn't help myself 😆 ✨THE PROMISE - Both beautiful and heavy, a real symphonic masterpiece! - Live at Black Symphony (2008) - Live at Elements (2012) - Live at Pukkelpop (2002). Yes, low res video unfortunately but young Sharon is magnificent. 🏚THE HOWLING - Live at Black Symphony (2008) ❄️ICE QUEEN - Live at Black Symphony (2008) - Live at Elements (2012) 🔥DECIEVER OF FOOLS - Live at Pukkelpop (2002) - Live at Provinssirock (2006) 🌍MOTHER EARTH - Live at Black Symphony (2008) ⏳OUR SOLEMN HOUR - Live at Black Symphony (2008) ⚔️HAND OF SORROW - Live at Black Symphony (2008) The further back you go, the heavier their music gets. In the 90's when they started it was really heavy with lots of gothic doom influences (and growling, yes), then it turned symphonic metal and nowadays it's more like symphonic rock - with lots of random influences. ➡️BONUS: Sharon recorded a song with Floor when she was in After Forever, check out Beyond me.

There aren't many (if any) Within Temptation songs I don't like! Suggestions would be their entire catalog! One of the more interesting that I didn't think would work but really, really does is "And We Run" (Featuring Xzibit). Symphonic metal meets Rap!

I totally love this duet, however Sharon is now 46 and I wish someone would cover her current tonality. It has gained that richness that frequently happens when you age. Check out Beste Zangers and see if you agree.

The water of the Netherlands compares to none. I first heard WT searching for fanvids dedicated to "Smallville" season10. The song is "Faster." Of the two versions other than that, I recommend the 'video clip.' A more sultry Sharon you will not see. And if you never thought Sharon could whip you, in this video she brings the belt! As in belting, not me being pervy offensive...
