I think it would be fascinating if River' could show you how he does throat bass, inward bass, a liproll, whistles (more noises involving the voice itself, your very own field). You could get a lot out of it and even tear apart the structure and science behind all this amazing noises that we as beatboxers barely know. We know the sounds, but you know the science behind it.

There's a vid in youtube where a polyphonic overtone singer (think kyaagura overtone-singing) is singing in an MRI machine. I learned a lot from it. I would love to see a pro-beatboxer do high-level stuff the same way.

Lolli's got a whole market now. When top beatboxers like River' start to use more singing vocal techniques, every aspiring champion is going to pay Lolli for lessons. This is how schools like Julliard start, Lolli. Take advantage of this.

This is such an amazing collaboration, I appreciate so much you two doing this! I hope beatboxers can share this video around the community as its great for both helping beatboxers improve their singing technique and also bringing more attention to beatboxing techniques with in the singing community. It can be trickier for longer form videos to do well, so any bit of support helps bring more attention to it and encourages more collaborations like this in the future.

I learned from this video: 1. @1:04: TA (ThyroArytenoid) Muscle shortens vocal folds > Reduce Tension > low singing, engaged when speaking (Mode 1) 2. @1:20: CT (CricoThyroid) muscle elongates vocal folds > raise tension of vocal folds > heightens pitch, thin voice (Mode 2) 3. @1:31: TA and CT work antagonistic (TA would be biceps, CT Triceps) to control the vocal folds 4. Low/Speaking Voice (Mode 1) has only TA active, High/Thin Voice (Mode 2) has only CT active. 5. @1:37: Switching between High and low voice only changes the active muscle (see 4.), while the other is inactive 6. @1:42: Mixed voice means using and controlling TA and CT at the same time -> harder than only one muscle (see 5.) 7. @2:19: You can make one muscle more dominant (heighten its muscle tone in relation to the other?) by warming up from "its" direction/Mode. I.e. warm up from the top down to make CT dominant and prepare thin voice singing. (Mode 1) And warm up botton to top to make TA dominant and have low resonation/weight. (Mode 2 singing) 8. @2:56: Mode 1 is speech, TA dominant. --- Mode 2 is thin, CT dominant 9. @3:07: Top down warmup exercises (for CT dominance) 10. @4:28: Larynx is like a little box in which the vocal folds are. You can change the sound of the voice by using same pitch (keep TA&CT activation the same?) and bringing larynx up or down. 11. @4:56: Lift up larynx for high singing, lower it for more resonance (low singing) 12. @5:42: Lower Larynx for more room for producing the voice (harder to control), lift larynx to make room for voice production smaller -> easier to control Why? Perhaps, because there is less tissue involved with lifted larynx? :thinking_face: 12.5: @6:50: Keep neck in neutral position (it automatically goes up), Imagine Sound going to the side instead of up 13. @7:09: Higher Tongue -> Less Resonance Space -> control easier, Adding twang (quack like voice quality? :D) also helps 14. @7:49: Smaller Resonance Space (see 12.&13) makes volume higher/voice louder 15. @8:55: Repeat exercise twice on same starting pitch, so first try shows its doable and second is more relaxed 16. @10:05: Letting your voice go: Voice getting very high means TA lets go and CT muscle takes over -> completely safe! 17. @10:22: Not sure I understood this correctly? Trying to keep voice under control with tension when it wants to be let go is NOT safe Yes, I just spend around 1-2h+ for this XD Yes I had a blast 😁 And yes I procrastinated work :/ :D Also learned: River can be a helicopter :D @5:10 River has crazy larynx control

I used to be a slightly above average singer, and a horrible songwriter lol, but in my years I have lost the control, range, and breath I once had. I have completely lost the ability to use my falsetto voice and my high whistle no longer exists. Honestly, I have lost the ability to sing at all if I am reluctantly honest. I couldn't even scream for help if my life depended on it. I miss singing a lot. But your videos are special. They bring me so much joy because I do still have a good ear and your analysis is always so spot on. Your ear is amazing. The ability you have to catch even the slightest details that 99% would miss and then explain exactly what is happening with the voice in such a simple and comprehensive way is just astonishing. Really! You are amazing, Lolli. Thank you for being you and sharing your gift with us. With so much love, Dale.

@ElomoChelo
@ElomoChelo 10 месяцев назад
That vocal roll was game changer, but I think it was too late to release it. It was ultra high level, don’t get me wrong, but I think that 2 thing has VERY great POTENTIAL: 1) The Voice Roll: the technique something not known by many of us. The voice of a human has something special, I think that roll could’ve cause soooo many different types of impact on the listener, just that he showed it in a battle. Battles and Art are not the same thing (on it’s 100%) Think at the Codfish’s 2019 The Summit performance. He used his developoed vocal roll on a beatbox song that USED A CONCEPT. He leaded us to crazy mystical sh*t, with a (for me), written letter from Peter Pan. The transmission there was unbelievable. 2) The Concept Idea: I think this is not too present in music, and not understood by many of people in the beatbox community (if we focus on them). It’s really great, cool, interestint, meaningful, appreciated, ETC, when you bring a concept into your song. You think of creating something with a concept in? Ok. You Freestyle and you think your routine express an emotion in particular? A mood? An aspect of life? A game? A moment in history?? The future? Fun? Intrigue? Mystic?? Continue on this and make sur it will develop all that concept that you feel. I wrote all this because I think River’s Vocal Roll used on his routine “Where My Heart Belongs” was applied to a battle, while there are cryterias for your music on battles, you form them as to be accepted by people (crowd, juries, online fans, fans: RELATED TO BATTLE YOUR MUSIC WILL NOT BE FREE) so the real problem comes here. You cannot make the greatest music, give your 100% artistically speaking if you’re doing things for battles, things for someone, it needs to have freedom in there. I think the “Where My Heart Belongs” was a super special routine but taken in a a wrong way. If this would be made for a showcase in a river showcase, I personally thibk the result could’ve been different in a positive way (and for me, it will always be) I would like to read your comments on this, please be kind and respectful, just debate. - Zuzu

I'm 2 minutes in and impressed, that explanation with the 2 muscles working together and switching for the different voices changed my view so much, I always wanted to learn the show go double voice (switching between mixed voice and falsetto fast) but never really got a consistency in my switches, just some days I was more in the mixed voice and could hardly go back after switching to falsetto, but with this view I will definetly try to learn more vocal techniques and train these muscles the right way

My vocal range is very much lower than most women's -- think Bill Withers. Singing low notes feels so good and smooth, and even though I can sing high notes, I don't feel the control and fluidity there. I love your channel, and I double LOVE this series! Thinking of my voice as an instrument with components that I can move and adjust and play with has helped me so much. THANK YOU! ❤ Can't wait for more.

Remember when Helium somewhere explained in a comment that singing is fundamental if aspiring beatboxers want to get better as much as they can? Yes, that's so important. Like half of the sounds of beatboxing is made with the muscles activated when we sing (of course a lot of different techniques).

Hi Lolli! What helped me with the kick snare is understanding the air inside your mouth. When you can drop your jaw a bit and create more space, similar to different vowels in singing, it helps increase the resonance a lot! Love the videos!

I'm seeing Lolli beatboxing on GBB in the future with such a unique style! She has a very professional musical background from the world of singing, so she could do great things, a bit similar to what MB14 does in his Beatbox. PS, I think this type of content has a lot of potential! It is not only rich in learning for the Beatboxers who have sessions with her, but also for us. And it's great to think that the Beatbox comes from a very experimental and prototypical world of the voice, the moment those sound experiments match the vocal quality of a person like Lolli, the possibilities that the Beatbox has are enriched by 360°. to deliver. Without forgetting that beatbox without melody is noise.
