I picked 3 on the blind test. Sounded the fullest. I love and use radiator in unison with decapitator on my vocals in every mix. Decapitator for the body, radiator for the shine.

For me it was between #3 and #4 Abby Road always put out some great plugins!!! It sound clean, pushes through the mix and like you said it’s subtle but sounds great. Love the track too!!!

I feel like all the preamps have different feelings and flavors to them, non necessarily being better than the others. But understanding that depending on the particular mix and the desired style each preamp can give a unique flavor to the Vocals being treated. Thanks Sean 🖤

I think 3, 4 & 5 had so much more character & sounded amazing with your vox. Then I just did the same shoot out with my vox & surprising Sound Toys Radiatior exceeded all hands down 🙌🏼

Hmm. For me it was 1, 3, & 4 that sounded pretty good. Was surprised to see that Radiator made your vocals sound a lot more thin.

Just started using waves abbey road sat and that thing is super dope if your looking for that more 90s street grime sound. just push it a bit harder than demonstrated in this vid and it sets the foundation of the vocal chain perfectly.

Thanks for doing this video SD! I LOVE a great shootout. Saturation is the missing "sauce" for a lot of people. It was for me, especially even order harmonics. And it's hard to ask for something you don't know how to qualify. Specifically, I love gear that has the 3 T's: Tubes, Transformers, Tape. I picked up Radiator a week or two ago and have been using it on everything from individual channels to music and drum busses. As much as I love that plug, my favorite from this experiment was #3 and #5. I liked how much low end weight and power both of those added to your vocal. It gets overlooked, but I think low end (sometimes but not necessarily low mid) can contribute to a lot of perceived "quality" in a vocal. That, and a smooth, sometimes "plasticky" midrange. All of these plugins did different versions of that here. Outside of these, some of my other favorites for this are: UAD 1073, UAD Manley Voxbox, UAD 610, UAD Oxide Tape, UAD Thermionic Culture Vulture, Softube Tape. Question for you: which mic/pre/comp chain was this verse originally recorded on?

1 & 3.... (1)close to the Original Vocal(2)that analog sweetness with a little bite...but smooth top end fit.... i listen for changes in the other instruments...am going for tone ,cut & fit

Was about to complain that I haven't seen more vids of the 🐐 at work lol. I would go with 5 but all of them sound unique. The one I didn't enjoy as much was 2 because it was too thin for my taste but still sounds good. I look forward to seeing more content from you . I'm a huge fan sean

2 & then 4 were my favourites.. Then 5, and maybe 1 & 3. They were all quite different. I liked No: 1 off the bat but 2 seemed smoother. 4 was in your face but in a good way. 5 similar but a little less. I'd be happy with all 5. (probably I should have listened more than once). I have the first 4. And they still sound good to me. I might move 3 above 1. Therefore 2 - 4 - 5 - 3 - 1. For what its worth. I also have some iZotope stuff. So I won't get the MacDSP (unless its cheap?)

I liked 1 and 4 I have recorded through little radiator and got decent results. My favorite preamp is called acquavox by acustica plugins you can't even find it any more but it sounds great if you can actually record through it its a cpu killer... 😧

Dope! I have a Isa one preamp to my neuman that goes to my Apollo twin duo via xlr to trs a a line input in my UAD Avalon channel strip with unison . I also have UAD Neve 1083 preamp which I haven’t used or tried . I’ have been recording with the setup above.Which would be the best for vocals.

I really need your advice on this I’m stuck between the arturia and the abbey road!!! Which would you say would be best to use on a EVERY MIX BASES? I love the clarity of the arturia sounds amazing but I also love the grittiness and grunge I kinda hear from the waves

tough call! I'd say the ar saturator is a bit more well-rounded. the trid-a has a more specific sound but I really like it on rap vocals

Sean, thanks for all your videos bro. You’ve been an amazing help. Can I pay you to mix a song for me (I can use as a reference when mixing my vocals) I have a hard time mixing myself and it is irritating to the MAXIMUM DEGREE! I don’t have a problem with anyone else but myself for some reason. It’s like I don’t know what I should sound like hearing “me” ... am I making any sense? Does anyone have this issue? I use protools 12.5HD. It would be a 1 track stereo mix down of the beat And no more than 9-11 mono vocal tracks( more than usual for “just in case” purposes. I appreciate your input & time

Hey Sean, I am not sure if you did a video on this. But is there a way to change the key of a song in Logic X. When I try to change the key it only changes the apple loops. Is there a plugin or function in Logic that allows you to change the key of pre recorded audio that you bring into the DAW?
