Voddie Baucham is a liar as usual. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was NOT a Marxist, and in fact preached AGAINST Marxism. In a published article called "My pilgrimage to nonviolence". (1958, September 1), King wrote about three reasons he REJECTED Communism. His first reason is as follows: "First I rejected their materialistic interpretation of history. Communism, avowedly secularistic and materialistic, has no place for God. This I could never accept, for as a Christian I believe that there is a creative personal power in this universe who is the ground and essence of all reality-a power that cannot be explained in materialistic terms."

In any event, Rev Dr. MLK, Jr. spoke for HIMSELF on this matter many times, forthrightly and with no ambiguity. King consistently denounced communism/marxism, and distanced himself from Communists as necessary -- including Levison. This is thoroughly documented in the article "Communism" on the The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute website.

In any event, Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke consistently and forthrightly on this matter. There is an article called "Communism" on the Stanford Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute website documenting where he repeatedly preached against Communism, and explained it failings and its opposition to Christian principles. He also distanced himself from Communists as necessary, including Levison. On top of that his daughter Dr. Bernice King is still alive and runs The King Center here in Atlanta. And she has debunked this several times. So to keep calling him a communist is just slander at this point.

I would not go so far as to say Voddie is a "liar as usual," since he actually makes some good theological points usually. However, on the Rev. Dr. King, he's definitely off.
Funny our founding forefathers allowed slavery and the oppression of African American ppl. They wrote a Constitution that said every man deserves to be free, but allowed slavery and the oppression of black people. But the right wing church ignores that and speaks positively about our founding forefathers and constitution. Dr King had to many issues,like our founding forefathers, but I choice to look at the positive of Dr King. Understanding that his work has more to do with my freedom than anything my founding forefathers ever did.
Trying to judge King DOES actually bring a bad spin on the Civil Rights movement. It's shameful they would act like this when there are real problems in the world. Todd needs to put his JUDGE cap back in the box. Paul stated each man answers to God themselves. I think MLK Jr will fare much better than the typical overweight biggie sized christian. Hypocrisy abounds. These dudes pick the weirdest places to make their silly Kingdom stand. Baucham should have known better. I don't expect it from Friel. Bad stands are his bread and butter. I'm not a christian, but these dudes bring shame on their religon. So many bigger problems to deal with rather than a dead mans theology.
In 1974 when Mohammed Ali defeated George Foreman in Kinshasha, Zaire he remarked on the poverty that he saw in this African country. He said "I'm glad that my ancestors got on the boat". I was surprised by his remark. He did not mention that his ancestors did not volunteer to get on the boat. Also it took 300 years of slavery and discrimination for Ali to enjoy the perks of being a world champion. I understand that most African Americans enjoy a standard of living that is higher than most Africans. But that does not justify slavery and discrimination in America. Ali could have come up with a better answer.
