Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great and convincing doing it all.

hehe been a fan of nighwish since the Tarja era. I came to it because of the metal in symphonic metal. Dont be fooled however, metal is not what NW is. Do they have one or 2 metal songs sure, but they literally don't have a genre... They are simply Music in its purest form. If it sounds right they do it.

Floor has a lot more vocal tricks, styles, and timbres that aren't shown in this song so I would love to hear you go into a little bit of detail on what she's doing to create these sounds and effects.

Great reaction! And a deeeeeep rabbit hole, like "i can see Australia from here" deep ))). They've been around since late-90s, this current singer has been with them since 2012, lots of great songs, several jaw-dropping epics, both in composition and vocally. That said, probably nothing beats the performance, the drama, the music, the goosebumps of Poet and the Pendulum, the live version at Wembley... And for a different awesome and incomparable vocalist you probably never heard of, consider Devin Townsend - Kingdom, Deadhead, Supercrush, Higher, ideally live.. Enjoy!

Watched your Angelina Jordan reaction a few days back and then you followed that up with Disturbed and my immediate thought was "won't be long before she discovers Nightwish and Floor Jansen" lol. You've just seen… eh, probably about half, maybe less, of what she can do. Wait till you see the REST. She is, quite simply, amazing. She's classically trained, and can sing anything. And sing it well. If you like her, check out any Nightwish Live performance - Wacken 2013, Buenos Aires 2018, Wembley 2015. Oh, and by all means check out Beste Zangers 2019 - to get an idea of what all she can do - she covers several songs, in several languages; you might be impressed! Fun fact: this was song 13 of a 16 song set (including one instrumental). She'd been singing for most of an hour prior. And then she did THIS.

Thank you for a wonderful, insightful reaction and explanations of vocal techniques and why / how things sound the way they do. Floor is gifted physically (6-1, strong body, great lung capacity, open wide mouth with amazing flexibility of her jaw to open even further, and just absolutely stunning to look at - you can’t take your eyes off of her (well at least I can’t). But, she works tirelessly to perfect her singing and how she sings each note precisely. The fact she has a band like Nightwish playing the music behind her is really just not fair. It’s a match for the ages. Think you will enjoy the Nightwish rabbit hole as we all have (well at least ones like me who have more recently fallen in love with them).

That was one of the last songs of the concert, and she was able to do that. Pick any song from this concert (Wacken 2013), they all worth it. And from other concerts, Tampere, Buenos Aires and Wembley.

Wonderful reaction! It's such a pleasure to see someone who understands music and performing reacting to Nightwish and Floor for the first time. Please do more - you'll probably get hundreds of suggestions, but 2 of my favorites are Everdream and Storytime. Oh yeah - and Ghost River and Song of Myself. And possibly Romanticide and Nemo. Hah, did I say TWO of my favorites? Well it's really hard to choose. Be sure you watch the live performances - this concert at Wacken 2013 is probably the best starting point. Oh yes, this was the 12th or 13th song in the set which makes her stamina all the more amazing!

I’m 62 years old. Went to a lot of concerts. Heard a lot of music. Different styles. I love listening. Two years ago I discovered Nightwish. I was totally lost and still am.

There isn’t a single reaction to this I haven’t enjoyed, but it’s people like you, who have knowledge that make these reactions better.

Floor Jansen one of... no probably the best female vocalist of our time. I can say that because you have not seen what she can do. Try more from this concert, like Romanticide, Storytime or Everdream. .. or whatever its all great. But lets give them all credit a fantastic band with metal mozart Tuomas writing these songs.

It's a score. Floor is our Angel and she is amazing, beautiful, very powerful and that stage presence. Floor is also very down to earth. She used to be a vocal coach before joining Nightwish. At this concert she had been with the band 10 months. She says that she is a vocal technique nerd.If you want something different from Floor checkout her singing O Mio Bambino Cara. Floor can down and then up without any problems and her Breathe control is great. She can sing regularly and do growls and back again. She had 2 yrs of opera. This is her favorite song to sing. The bassist Marco is a amazing singer also. He was lead singer in the band Tarot. This her 3band and she is the last singer for Nightwish. She's been in a professional band since she was 17. She is 39 now. If you want to.listen to her do growls react to Yours is an Empty hope at Wembley.

I've easily watched dozens of reactions to this song, maybe hundreds, and this was definitely one of the better ones I've seen. As a non-singer I loved all the technical and anatomical detail you gave about the mechanics of what Floor was doing, so please don't ever feel like you have to apologize for stopping to explain something--I suspect I'm far from the only viewer who appreciates listening to an expert discuss their craft passionately in relation to a band we love. I would suggest going back a few seconds after pausing however, so that the flow of the song isn't interrupted and the viewer can then review what you were just describing. Also, the actual song audio came out fairly poorly due to playing on speakers, like listening to it on speakerphone--so if it's possible for you to listen on earbuds and merge the audio in post, I think that might create a better result. Anyway, you've got another new sub here, looking forward to seeing more!

You’re very welcome into Nightwish and our amazing female vocalist Floor Jansen. There is a lot more to discover and experience from this wonderful band. So please continue this journey. Realize this was song no. 13 of 15 and they regularly play 1.5hour almost every 2 or 3 days in a row for more than a year. At the end of 2013 she was with this band less than one year cause she was asked to replace NW 2nd vocalist and had to learn the setlist within 48 hours. She’s an incredible talented singer and performer. Please continue with ‘Song of Myself’ ‘Storytime’ and/or ‘Romanticide’ from the same Wacken Open Air 2013 concert.

Great reaction and interesting new things about the singing! would recommend wearing headphones while listening to them to avoid unwanted mixing of sound (especially during the heavier parts, a small echo can mess up the whole sound). For other aspects of Floors vocal talent I would try Romanticide live from Wacken 2013 and Yours is an empty hope from Wembley Arena 2015. Floor also took part in a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers where she sang Phantom of the Opera with the Dutch opera singer Henk Poort and also did a version of Shallow which is, in my opining, better than Lady Gaga's. You mentioned her training and she is a vocal nerd and was a vocal coach at one time. Floor tweeted this If I hadn't had passionate music teachers in my high school, I might never have started singing. I was the bullied, insecure kid who dreamt of singing without knowing that I had a voice for it. "Because of my dedication at school I dared to crawl out of my shell and started to sing! I became more confident of myself and made friends and was forever in love with music. "Nothing is as wonderful and honest as making music together. Nothing connects as music can. Music education is therefore very important for many reasons. Floor's Wiki Bio Floor Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. After After Forever split up she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?! She used to play the guitar, piano and flute and has completed several years of music studies. From the age of 16 all during this period she was fronting the the Band Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997 until they disbanded in 2009. She then did vocal coaching and formed her own band called Revamp which officially broke up in 2016 because of Floor's commitment to Nightwish. The RockAcademy in the Netherlands is an actual Bachelors degree, conservatory style, but focusing on the rock/pop industry.
