I think it's amazing that so many people outside The Netherlands love this show. This performance of Sanne really moves me every time I see and hear it. She is PURE
Stef wrote the song around the time his mother died, but didn't share that information until now in Beste Zangers, because his girlfriend at that time did use this song for the Belgian entry at the Songfestival and he didn't want it to be known that it was so personal then. Sanne told the Dutch people afterwards, that she was grieving the loss of her stepfather while she was singing and that's why she was so emotional. I totally felt it listening to the song and it felt so sincere and was beyond beautiful! Especially the part where she belted: "I want to scream, but I only can sing". Because she stutters while speaking and does not when singing, this is so true for her in real life. She's so brave to be on television and on stage, although her stuttering. Glad you reviewed this song, because it deserves the attention of the whole world 👍
I picture you with my eyes closed I can feel you locked up hard I can hear you talking but you are not there, you are not there And I feel lost when I have to lose you And you can't die yet because I can't miss you, I can't miss you Through the wind Through the rain Right through everything Through the storm Although everything is against me I am never alone because of you I feel you next to me when I want to forget on the street at night What is written in my eyes, you should only know And I want to lose myself in the daze of a winner And I would like to scream but I can only sing I can only sing Through the wind Through the rain Right through everything Through the storm Although everything is against me I am never alone because of you By a sea of distance Through a wall of emptiness Through a land of silence Throughout my life Through the wind Through the rain Right through everything Because of the storm, although everything is against me Because of you I am never alone
Did you know she stutters when she talks? She has a beautiful singing voice. The idea of the program is that they perform eachothers songs. As long as someone has enough hits atleast. Sometimes the programme delivers these kinds of diamonds. Beatiful cover!
Just like you Sanne who wants to keep playing this song forever, I will keep listening to it forever. Think this is 1 of your best songs you've ever sung, and goes right through me like a storm. Thank you Sanne ❤️
The original version of this song, composed by Stef Bos was the Belgian entry to the Eurovision Songcontest in 1989, performed by Ingeborg with Stef as the backing vocal.
Recently Stef Bos, the writer of this song, said he would never perform it again because he could never bring what Sanne Hans did with it. He said the song was locked in a prison and she set it free. Stef Bos wrote it when his mother was dying. Basically it says that no matter where I am or how bad thing are, because of you, I am never never alone.
"You just liberated this (his) song and took it to a whole new level. Next time I sing this song I'm gonna sing it this way" Stef Bos (the songwriter) about this performance
With my eyes closed I can feel you With my heart locked I can hear you talking But you are not there You are not here I feel lost If I have to lose you And I keep dreaming of you Because I can't miss you I can not miss you refr .: Through the wind Through the rain Right through everything Through the storm Although everything is against me By you I am never alone I feel you next to me When I'm on the street at night Want to forget Which is in my eyes Written You should know And I want to lose myself In the daze of a winner And I would like to scream But I can only sing refr. By a sea of distance Through a wall of emptiness Through a land of silence Throughout my life Through the wind
Hai Valerie, i love your reactions a lot. You are genuine, you have a lot of knowledge and you are really moved by the music and by the singers and their characters. Without knowing the words you totally understand the feeling and therefor the meaning of the song. And you have the language, the words to grab that feeling. Sometimes it's almost poetic and always respectful. I love it. I will keep on following you. Perhaps it's again time for Nightwish with Floor Jansen. Check out their new album Human :||: Nature. For instance the songs Music, Shoemaker, Pan or Procession. Technically and emotionwise very interesting. Floor shows another part of her versatility. You will love it. I know you will.
@2:27 the lyric is: "Ik zou willen schreeuwen, maar ik kan alleen zingen" which means: "I would like to cry out (shout), but I can only sing". Since Sanne is someone who stutters when she speaks, but never when she sings you can see in the way she delivers that line that that has a special meaning to her. Such a powerful song with emotions on so many level.
Inspirational song. Yes...but only after a veeeery sad intro. To me, through both the lyrics and the feeling it starts by carrying a burden 'door de wind, door de regen, dwars door alles heen' (through the wind, through the rain, straight through everything). And thanks to the lyrics that add 'door jou ben ik nooit alleen' (because of you, I'll never be alone), that burden becomes a beacon, something to hold on to. And as stated in another comment: this song perfectly fits Sanne. 'Ik zou willen schreeuwen, maar ik kan alleen zingen' (I would like to scream, but I can only sing). She has a very heavy stutter, so singing is literally her way to express herself.
the downside for things like google translate is they can translate. But in Dutch especially in songs expressions often have multiple possible meanings. in this case the word "door" in "door de wind" at the same time can mean "through" and "because of" and the meaning is purposely shifts throughout the song. leading to ... "through the wind, through the rain". and later on the altered "because of you"
Consider this song was done by a different singer in 1989 for the eurovision song festival. At that moment the song had such a lack of emotion. It wasn't the text but the performance. Sanne made this song what it should be! Thanks for listening to our Dutch artists!
I love Sanne, Ms Montreal. She is also very funny. Her performances are a blast. I love Stef Bos too. I am so happy that Beste Zangers gives our Dutch and Flemish talent such a positve exposure to new audience.
Miss Montreal (Sanne) also has a speech problem, she stutters when she speaks. it's no secret, everyone knows that and she talks about it on TV herself; but when she sings she doesn't stutter.
Hey Valerie, I have like always another view on the lyrics. Just like 'beste zangers ' has a dual meaning the word 'door' also has a dual meaning in Dutch. It's trough the wind if you feel you overcome something. It's because of the wind if you feel the wind and it reminds you of someone or something. In both cases you can say 'door ' in Dutch. Love your reactions. Greetings Ron
Thank you so much for this reaction-video. There is another "Diamond" I would like you to react to...... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wru_7v1u9f8.html It's a "Stef Bos-song" beautifully performed by Tabitha. She sings in South-African, which is very much like the Dutch language. And don't worry: you'll find the translation in one of the reactions. The song is based on the biblical story of Ruth who has to go and live in a foreign country, from which she knows that people there won't like her because of her heritage. Stef fell in love with a women from South-Africa and moved to that country. He of course missed his home country, but because of the love he didn't have an other choice than to move to South Africa. And he was able to discribe his feelings in this beautiful song. Hope you like it too. Thnx!
Original is Dutch. Through the wind , through the rain. Door de wind, door the regen. You should recognise the words 😊 It's not so different, why do you think we Dutch are the best English speaking 🤗
Door de wind / By De Wind (in Dutch and with also a English translation) Stef Bos, Ingeborg Sergea I picture you with my eyes closed I can feel you locked up hard I can hear you talking but you are not there, you are not there And I feel lost when I have to lose you And you can't die yet because I can't miss you, I can't miss you Through the wind Through the rain Right through everything Through the storm Although everything is against me I am never alone because of you I feel you next to me when I want to forget on the street at night What is written in my eyes, you should only know And I want to lose myself in the daze of a winner And I would like to scream but I can only sing I can only sing Through the wind Through the rain Right through ...

Miss Montreal (Sanne Hans) was in 2021 one of the judges of the Voice Kids in The Netherlands. That was won by a 13 year old girl Emma Kok. In 2022 Emma won Ministars and in 2022 she performed at age 15 a French song Voila, in front of over 12000 people accompanied by Andres Rieu and his Johan Straus orchestra. As you seem to like singers that can convey emotions I would like you to react to her. The performance went viral with today more than 60 Million views on RU-vid. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KdIhq1tb8Co.html I like Miss Montreal and als the singer songwrite Stef Bos, that wrote Door de wind I appreciate your reaction, thanks from Jacques
How I would translate it, and only little was changed for Eurovision, hope you agree. I can see you with my eyes closed I can feel you, while my heart is locked I can hear you talking, but you aren't here no, you are not here And I will feel lost if I need to lose you And you're not allowed to die yet because I can not miss you I can't miss you through the wind, through the rain through everything, anything through the storm, even when everything is against me through you, I will never be alone I can feel you next to me when late at night on the street I want to forget What is written in my eyes If only you knew And I wanted to lose myself in the glee of a winner And I wished I could scream but I can only sing I only can sing through the wind, through the rain through everything, anything through the storm, even when everything is against me through *you*, I will never be alone through a sea of distance through a wall of emptiness through a country of silence through my entire life through the wind, through the rain through everything, anything through the storm, even when everything is against me with you, I will never be alone
Sanne (miss Montreal) in real life stutters a lot and also mocks herself with it, but in her songs she never gave her problems.... that is why "viervoeters" she sang to Diggy Dex was so very impressive!!.... i would personally like to hear a reaction on the version Milow sang of "redemption song" to Tabitha.... the whole dutch community went wild.....
I love what you said. Everything about not having to know the lyrics to your opinion about the show! it's not so much about talent, it's about sharing a passion.
What she also demonstrates beautifully is how the voice works via different paths - when she talks she sometimes stutters a bit, but when she sings it sounds like this ^_-
Not much to say here, Sanne is a powerful and lovely singer who feels the songs she sings. I loved her version of this powerful song, you will love the translations when you rewatch this later on. This is also the song that hit Stef the hardest because it has a deep, deep meaning to him so when it was time to say who hit him the most with their song, it was Sanne who he picked. I found this to be an amazing episode, and it wasnt a episode like normal, normal as in "3 originals, 3 inspiration songs" no, again a first as far as i can tell, all but 1 song were original songs by Stef Bos. But that was perfect to me, it reminded all of us how amazingly talented Stef is in his lyrical writing and how his music touches the soul of people. Ty for the upload and your lovely words Valerie, you're adorable really, your love for music is so apparent and your smile in contagious :) On to the next one and the episode of tomorrow :)
Did you know, that she has a speach impedement? She stutters a lot in her normal speaking voice. That makes her singing voice even mroe impressive in my opinion..
@@VocalSplendorStudios I just found out that not only you are a fan of Beste zangers but also a fan of O'gene. Did you know that a couple oy years ago they also participated in this show.? You might want to look back at their performances..
