One of the great things about VoicePlay is that musically, they are all over the place. Unlike PTX, who tend to stick to pop, and Home Free, whose lane is definitely country, VoicePlay kind of does whatever they want. They embody Disney (most, if not all, of the members have worked in the Disney theme parks as entertainers), and have done many covers and medleys of Disney tunes. They do Broadway (Phantom of the Opera, the Wicked medley), pop (Good 4 U, Man in the Mirror, We're Good), rock (Carry On Wayward Son, Queen in 5 Minutes, Dream On), and video game soundtracks (Halo, The Dragonborn Comes, Still Alive). They will make you laugh (Butter) and cry (I Can't Make You Love Me), and they have no problem dropping a trap beat into piece of classical incidental music from 1876 that they perform without singing a single word, and while dressed up in full makeup and prosthetics as goblins (In the Hall of the Mountain King). Not only that, they do everything themselves: the song selections and arrangements, the video conceptualization, filming, and editing (including special effects), set building, prop and costume sourcing, lighting design, basic audio mix, and oh yeah, they sing, too. These guys are completely independent, no label, and it allows them complete control of their creative process from start to finish. Which in turn allows them to take risks that the other groups don't- such as deciding to cover Metallica, because why not? And run, don't walk, to see that cover- "Nothing Else Matters" is a masterpiece.

OH YES. WELCOME SIR. Fellow Nerd here..... they are the "theater kids" of the aca world and my personal favorite. They are big into games *coughcoughHALOcoughSKYRIMcoughcough* but can honestly fit into any bucket. Huge Disney fans and just all-around amazing humans. The short breakdown of members are as follows: Layne: human synth, drumkit, and overall creative genius (does about 1/2 of the arrangements) - most vids are shot at his studio called "pattycake studios" which he runs with another former member. Original member from the 90's when he and Geoff were in high-school. Geoff: pronounced Jeff - Bass with a 5 octive range. Also crazy creative and is the other 1/2 of arrangements (also has solo work which is equally as amazing) Original member. Eli: pronounced El-e - tenor to bass range (rivals Geoff above with range but higher, I genuinely think these 2 humans alone can do almost every note on a piano) - he also does all the lighting arrangement for VoicePlay and much of Geoff's solo stuff. Member for over 10 years now. Cesar: Newest member who is listed as a bari but has the most gorgeous tenor to bari range. Joined in 2021 and is am amazing addition. You just opened the most gorgeously arranged pandoras box - Welcome. They are truly unlike any other aca, no matter what anyone says. They legitimately get better with each creation, it's astonishing to watch.

Welcome to Voiceplays' (and Geoff's... Trust me 😁) rabbit holes 🙂. This group has been around for a long time, and their catalogue is wide. They're said to be the "Theater Kids of a cappella", and with good reason. Their repertoire ranges from Disney songs (all of them, I understand, have a background either in Disney or Universal theme parks...) to Broadway, to movies, to video games soundtracks (you'll love them 😁) to iconic rock songs (as an example, they recently covered "Nothing else matters" by Metallica... Never thought someone could do Metallica a cappella, but they did, and what a beautiful rendition it is!), to classic pop stuff, to classical instrumental music ("In the hall of the Mountain King", which they transformed in an hilarious, super-theatrical Halloween-ish piece of art... with no words whatsoever), to you-name-it. 🙂 If you think Geoff ("Jeff") Castellucci, the bass singer, sung deep here, be warned: you didn't hear his REAL bass register, unless you payed a lot of attention to the subtle bass line he was singing in certain moments 😁. He has his own solo channel, where he does "Low bass singer covers", digitally "cloning" himself in 4 or 5 "Geoffs" (they even have a name!), sometimes with different costumes and makeups, and acting and singing ALL the parts. I think you'll love it. 🙂 A few suggestions for your further explorations in Voiceplay's world. As you seem to appreciate video games (yes, I noticed the pacman behind you 😁), you could try their series from video games soundtracks. "My mother told me", from both "Vikings" and "Assassins Creed V - Valhalla". "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", from, well... "Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim". And the "Halo Theme", which I'd suggest you to watch to the end... After the song, the featured singer, Scott Porter, who is one of the former members of the group and their first beatboxer, explains the reasons behind that particular video, and it's a glimpse of who they are as human beings. Other suggestions may be "Carry on my wayward son", "Can't help falling in love", "I can't take you love me"... If you like iconic rock songs, "Dream On" (Aerosmith) and "Nothing Else Matters" (Metallica) may be of your interest, and they're ridiculously good. Movies? "Hoist the colours", from "Pirates of the Caribbean III". Some DEEP notes there... but not only. Fantastic piece. Or "The greatest show Medley". Did I mention that they just OWN Halloween? 😁 There's a series from "Nightmare before Christmas" that will blow you away... "Kidnap Sandy Claws", "Oogie Boogie song", "This is Halloween", "What's this". And "You're a mean one, mr.Grinch". 🙂 But pretty much WHATEVER you pick from their channel will be good. 🙂 As they had a number of changes in the lineup, in the last couple years, you'll likely see different faces in older videos. Don't worry, we'll help you learn the names 😁. As for Geoff... I'd suggest "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", to start. From "The Hobbit". But he's like VP, whatever you pick blows you away... 😁 Just subscribed. I don't want to miss your next reactions to these guys. 🙂 See you next time!

Geoff (Jeff) is the low bass with the long hair, but he also sings baritone and tenor, and also beatboxes if needed. Eli (rhymes with belly) is their rock tenor who also sings bass and baritone, and does voice acting outside of VoicePlay. Layne is the beatboxer, he also sings baritone. and some bass and tenor, and he also plays violin in a couple songs. Cesar is their newest member, the latino with the big hair. His position in the group is baritone, but he often sings tenor, and is known for his breathy voice and expressive face and body language. Geoff and Layne have been singing together since middle school, and are the two remaining founding members of the group, who started up in 1997. Eli joined them in 2010, before that he used to sing lead in several rock bands. Cesar joined them in July 2021, so he's quite new.

It's always fun to see someone react to Voiceplay for the first time. The lineup has changed in the last 3 years, previously had 5 guys, down 1 now. Hoist the Colours, Dragonborn Comes, I Can't Make You Love Me They have no label, no manager, so have complete artistic control. They are awesome. Pick something we've recommended or choose something that sounds interesting, you won't be sorry. We are a very enthusiastic fanbase, we will always be here for Voiceplay. The bass started a solo channel during the pandemic, you will eventually want to check him out. Or do it tomorrow. Subscribed in anticipation!

Favorites: Hoist the Colours, Warriors, Carry On Wayward Son, Tennessee Whiskey, Dream On, Nothing Else Matters (yes, Metallica!), Queen in 5 Minutes, My Mother Told Me. And so many more. Oh! And the Wicked Medley is completely incredible!

Yea! Glad you finally got to them. Geoff can go super low and he's good friends with Tim from HF. They like to show off his low notes (which I don't always agree with for the song but appreciate what he can do). My favs of VP are Eleanor Rigby (Beatles), Carry On Wayward Son (70's rock), My Mother Told Me (Viking song), In The Hall Of The Mountain King (classical music) - to name a few. Look forward to more of both HF and VP!

Trying to add some comments without doing too much repetition of what others have said: 1) VoicePlay is very 'hands-on', usually doing their own arrangements, designing and directing their own videos (usually the arranger for the song takes the reins as the director, and that's usually Layne (beatboxer) or Geoff (pronounced 'Jeff', bass). Eli (bald tenor, pronounced to rhyme with jelly) does the lighting, and usually the one who's directing is also doing the costuming. They sometimes get help for the more intricate makeup, helped by the fact that they spent a lot of time working in the Orlando, Florida area themeparks, primarily Disney and Universal, and they have makeup people they met back then (particularly Ric Underwood), who they call upon for the more elaborate stuff. They do a lot of filming on sets that are part of 'PattyCake Production Studios', run by Layne and another former VP member, Tony Wakim. They have done a lot of Disney and gaming covers. If you're at all a 'Nightmare Before Christmas' fan, they have covered "This is Halloween', "What's This?", "Kidnap the Sandy Claws', and "Oogie Boogie's Song'. The last one really features Geoff and shows off his amazing range. You will see different members at times, because they've had a fair amount of lineup changes over the past 5 years, but the three constants are Geoff, Layne and Eli.

VoicePlay often has a lot of humor in their videos. A recurring theme is for someone to do something unexpected or exceedingly well, and for everyone else to sort of turn and look at them like, "Where the hell did THAT come from?" Layne (beatboxer) and Geoff ("Jeff", bass) usually split the arranging duties between them, and when Layne arranges a song (the arranger usually also directs the video), pretty much anything goes - and Layne arranged this one! VoicePlay is known as the "theater kids" of a cappella, because they will often appear in a video in full costume, makeup, settings, scenery, lighting, etc. This video is actually fairly restrained for them, but it's still got a kick at the end! Recommendations: This Is Halloween, The Dragonborn Comes (Skyrim), Halo theme (watch until the video ends, please!), We Don't Talk About Bruno, I Can't Make You Love Me

Great reaction, thanks! The beatbox, Layne Stein, did the arrangement and video (including video editing) on this one, while Eli did the lighting. (Eli is standing in back, far left, jeans jacket.) Layne and Geoff (the bass) are founding members and do 99% of the arrangements, typically whoever does the arrangements also does the video. Eli has done most of the lighting for the last couple of years. All of their performances are GREAT. As a measure, this is a good one - not one that broke reactors, (some of theirs do) but really fun and well done. So follow your nose and your music preferences, and you won't go wrong.

That time VoicePlay turned up the mojo a little too much and almost launched their guest vocalist into orbit by accident. XD Welcome to the rabbit hole, please keep your hands and feet inside the reaction at all times! From left to right you've got Eli Jacobson, Geoff Castellucci, recurring guest Ashley Diane, Layne Stein, and Cesar De La Rosa. The four guys are their current full members, and for the time being they're filling the fifth spot with a variety of awesome collaborators. In some older-to-recent videos you may see J.None, a former member who is doing a tour with the Navy, still works with them when he's on leave, and may or may not return permanently one day (a lot of us are hoping!); Earl Elkins, who has left the group for undisclosed personal reasons; and if you go waaaay back you may see Tony Wakim, who no longer performs with them but is co-owner with Layne of PattyCake Productions, where they often film. (That's as far back as I can remember names, but they've never had anyone onboard who's not amazing.) Some other VP videos I recommend are Hoist the Colours, Nothing Else Matters, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Carry on Wayward Son, Dream On, Oogie Boogie's Song, the Moana Medley, Enemy, In The Hall of the Mountain King, and Butter (just for starters!) BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE: Geoff (the bass) also has his own channel, where he routinely knocks our socks off with his solo work. (He and VoicePlay put out both elaborately costumed and more traditional vids, btw.) Ghost Riders In The Sky, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, Sixteen Tons and Shenandoah are some of his bigger hits, and there's another one I can't tell you about yet, but it will definitely be worth your while to check it out in a few more days when the veil of secrecy will be lifted.

Back in May of 2020, in the depths of lockdown, they did a massive collaboration video (covering Justin Timberlake's "Just Sing") with their former members and a whole bunch of people they've collaborated with on The Sing Off. When you are listening to VoicePlay, let it run until Patreon list because they sometimes add a little at the end. VoicePlay lost 2 vocalists a couple of years back One was Earl Elkins,an original member since middle and high school along with Geoff (the bass) and Layne (beatboxer). Second was J None who was recruited into the US Navy for his vocal talents on a 5 yr stint (of which he has nearly 2 yrs done). At his goodbye party he said he'd be back and after boot camp he came back and did the lead in Friends on the Other Side, and he was planning on being back in the fall but leave was cancelled and the video was put off until Jan. It's a cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters and is astonishing as well as my favorite - can't get enouogh of it. It is that good. If you'd enjoy some of their theatrical stuff consider these: Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Hoist the Colours, Oogie Boogie Song, Little Mermaid, Warriors, Dream On, Tennessee Whiskey, Phantom of the Opera. Fans of VP are a greedy bunch - when there is a new reactor who will do VoicePlay, we will turn up here.Just so you know. The other 2 are Eli (rhymes with jelly) the bald rock tenor, and Cesar, a baritenor and the latest member taking one of the two slots. Earl left for undisclosed personal reasons and J None the US Navy. A lot of us are kind of rooting for his return in 3 more years. In the meantime, VoicePlay has an amazing group of vocalists that enjoy working with them - lucky for us.

Voiceplay was always a quintet, but in the past year they became a quartet....and they use the 5th spot for a featured artist. In their current lineup, Voiceplay is: {Front row} Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci...human subwoofer with a 5 octave range and amazing friggin' hair. Does about half the arranging for the group and also has his own low bass solo channel. Layne Stein (the other half of the arranging duo) Absolutely insane vocal percussion voodoo master with the craziest, most awesome sound effects that can come out of a human being, plus he has a beautiful singing voice we don't get to hear as often as we would like. {Back row} Eli Jacobsen (Pronounced "Elly" like Jelly lol) The little bald guy with the big badass rockstar tenor...this song barely scratched the surface of his amazingness! He also does most of the lighting for their videos. Ashley Diane in the center is their featured collaborator. She's done several other songs with them including "If I were a Rich Man/Girl" and "We Don't Talk About Bruno". Last but not least, Cesar De La Rosa, the newest member of the fantastic band of crazies. He's the baby of the group, with the voice of an angel... brilliant baritone/tenor who can hit some high notes that will knock the cobwebs off the ceiling. If you fall down this rabbit-hole (which I HIGHLY recommend you do!) you will see different people as you go back. There have been several changes of group members over the years. But everything they do is amazing, and there's a reason they have been dubbed "The Theater Kids of Acapella". They don't have a lane. They jump through all genres and do stuff you would never in a million years think would be done acapella. Absolute vocal wizards! Enjoy!

I enjoyed your reaction and am now a new subscriber looking foward to more reactions to Voice Play and Geoff Castellucci's (their deep bass singer) solo work. Great information and song suggestions from the other "Voice Players" (fans of Voice Play) in the comments so I will only add a little bit of info. They are a group from Orlando Florida with all of the members and their frequently featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. Bass singer, Geoff Castellucci, and his wife worked for Universal for a long time at the "Beetle Juice Graveyard Review" attraction and worked the annual month long Halloween Horror Nights at Universal as well so spooky and haunting is a vibe they do well and their Halloween covers and productions are the most entertaining (Pentatonix is known for having the best Christmas covers). Voice Play is often called the theater kids of acapella as they put so much into all aspects of lighting and technical effects, costumes and production and do it all themselves without a record label or contract. They are close friends with Home Free since they competed against each other on season 4 of the 'Sing Off' and toured with Home Free afterward on the 'Sing Off' tour. Layne Stein (Voice Play beat boxer) and Geoff Castellucci assisted Home Free with their arrangements for "Elvira" with the Oak Ridge Boys and "The Butts Remix". Voice Play and Home Free appear together in the video "Survivor: Zombies vs Hillbillies" from their 'Sing Off' era and you would love that video as it is an affectionate nod to their different style and approaches to acapella music (Home Free is more Country/Folk, Pentatonix is more Pop music, and Voice Play is more theatrical but all three groups cover different genres of music). As already stated in other comments, they are one member short since J None left to join the military but their frequently featured guests are people they have known since high school, college, local music scene in Orlando, or worked with at the theme parks so they all work so well together in their covers and are thought of like Voice Play extended family once you get to know them all.

Maybe I’ve miss it but WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THEIR ‘Oogie Boogie Song’? This is literally one of their most famous song and I’m pretty sure any human being on earth will be absolutely shocked hearing it the first time😂😂

Welcome to our world😉 I think most of us eat, drink and breathe Voiceplay and Geoff (Bass, has his own channel). I think you're going time need those cookies and carrots. (Voiceplay fans know all about the carrots). This rabbit hole starts off with a schoolboy a cappella group. The journey is on going over a period of many years, with stop offs at Disney, where it's sometimes "frozen", warm up when visiting "Moana, Little mermaid and Grinch," make sure you don't talk about Bruno. In the World of pop, look for the man in the mirror, be careful if you're superstitious. Try not to Panic at the disco. If you get as far as the land of rock.. Don't miss"Dream on, then "Carry on wayward son" because"Nothing else matters" and "I can't help falling in love (with VP)... You might see Geoff on Country roads while visiting Shenandoah... Also you might find Ghost riders in the sky where there aint no sunshine....in the mines you will find "Big bad John" loading "16 tons".. Til then, I will subscribe in anticipation.

Yeahhhh check out more VoicePlay! That's not even the lowest Geoff Castellucci (the bass) can go! He has also his own channel with amazing solo stuff. Everything they do is great! Halo Theme is cool or Dragonborn or Nothing Else Matters

I like some of Voice Play songs. I also love Kate Bush. She didn't match Kate's voice at all. Geoff is good

I doubt the point of doing a cover was to do an impersonation. I know they have said that they would not do a cover if they didn’t feel they could add something to it. Therefore they reference the original but don’t copy it.
