VoicePlay Reaction | Hoist the Colors | Reaction and Analysis 

This is the track that made me realise that acapella can be so much more than i realised. The arrangement, dynamics, sonic profile etc is so much more full and complex than i had ever heard from acapella music.

To me VoicePlay is just the greatest. I like the others, but just always touchs me more deeply. They are truly the whole package.

VoicePlay (and Geoff) excel at subverting expectations. This was his arrangement. The lighting he and Eli designed is intended to mimic a battle at sea. Glad to hear you're getting great opportunities to develop your talents at school.

This was from the Pirates of the Caribbean 3rd movie. The first VoicePlay video was this one a little over 2 yrs ago. My first experience on RU-vid music was Geoff's Monster Mash. The combination of those two videos sold me on them 100%. I never tire of them. Speaking of that, I don't get tired of your reaction/analysis. One of my reactors listening to Dragonborn, said that you could walk up behind Geoff and tilt him back to do string bass. I also enjoy the description of Geoff as a large purring cat that curls up inside a cello.

The VP on Eli's hand is the pirate "branding" mark. Geoff's is on his right forearm... the others all have one as well.

First - Congratulations on the exciting new stuff you are doing at school! I'm so glad you are getting such opportunities to use your talents. Next - Thank You for coming back and doing a few reactions while you are home! I hope you are having a great time with your family and friends from 'home'. This is such an exciting time of your life. Lastly, I do hope that amongst your many new experiences, you might have time to give us another video of you singing this coming semester. Your previous videos of such were impressive and beautiful. Great reaction! I'm a bit surprised that you had not already done this one. This in many ways was the beginning of Eli shocking folks with that grit in his voice and the belting. Looking back, he had done so before, but something about this video made many of us sit up and take notice. It might even be just because he suddenly made a very convincing 'pirate' when he has always seemed so nice before this. Seems silly to say when he had already done a 'berserker' in "My Mother Told Me", but for some reason this song is the one where I questioned whether it wouldn't be a good idea to run the other way, if I met him in a dark alley. I'll suggest that I'd really like to hear your reaction to VoicePlay's "Seven Nation Army". It is just unreal!

I keep coming back to this one-the depth and layering in this arrangement, everybody showing off their best. Eli’s lighting, the simple set that still tells the story (Abby Cadaver and Napoleon BoneApart there on the sides). It’s so great! Loved this reaction!

Not a traditional sea shanty as it was written for the film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The VP you noticed on Eli is a take on the fact that Pirates sometimes had P for pirate branded onto a hand. So of course, our guys had to make it VP. It's hard to spot but I believe they all have the brand. Yes they do double some tracks to give a fuller sound. This is one of my all time favourites of theirs. Stupendous. For me it's their arrangements that sets them apart from other a capealla groups, as well as the voices of course, and the theatricality. They really are in a league of their own. And impossible to categorise. Lovely reaction.

This is my second favorite Voiceplay cover. It used to be #1, but Valhalla Calling took the top spot. Still, I love this one so much I sleep with it playing, and consequently have listened to it over 40,500 times this year alone. And that was only Jan-Nov, so it's actually higher than that. I love watching people react to it, because it's so epic.

Great to see you back! You have been missed! But! so glad you are following the path that is becoming clearer for you! If you have time - VP has done a couple Loop vids - they rolls dice who gets to pick the song & do the first tracks - then the others get to add their bits before it goes back.. there are two - they are not long - but they are great!! You could to a double feature? Maybe? Also VP did Hellfire from Disney Hunchback of Notre Dame - soo good! I bet you will enjoy it. Again - great to see you!

Rick Underwood, their makeup artist of choice, LOVES to put little easter eggs into his work when he can, so each member has a "pirate brand scar" of VP somewhere. Easiest to see are the ones on the back of Eli's left hand (as you noted), Jose's left hand, and Geoff's right forearm..

The funny thing about this one is that Jose was not the original featured artist. Covid restrictions stopped the original artist from flying in. Eli had already recorded the part that Jose sang hear, but the rocking beast part did not fit Jose's voice. So, Eli recorded that amazing, amazing belting part. I'm not sure who the original featured artist was although I've heard rumors. No one could have sung Eli's part better, guaranteed. The whole arrangement was brilliant! Please do Voiceplay's version of I Can't Make You Love Me and Geoff's Man of Constant Sorrow. Trust me!

I assume the makeup's creepy vibe is because they're sort of...undead, As the song says @ 6:05: "Now some men have died, and some are alive, _and others sail on the sea"_ - impling that they fit into neither of the first 2 categories.

I just loce the bassline in this, worked with Layne and Geoff sttinf there together, footstompinf and looking cery menacing. Sometimes I can pyr this video on, merely to enjoy that. And then Eli on top of that. Peter Barber made a lovely double entendre on Eli soaring the high seas/ the high 'C's in this one. Loved your term of switcheroo.

9:19 Eli's breath control is even better than you suggest here. Not only is he moving to a high note after a sustain, but he's also shifting into a crescendo.

I can't believe you hadn't seen this one yet! It's one of my favorites. Definitely my favorite sea shanty! I totally agree about them setting expectations and then fulfilling them in a completely unexpected way. They are just so good! Congrats on the volleyball! I played in high school... Many, many, many moons ago, lol. Spike one for me! ❤

Did you notice that Geoff, after holding his low note for an impossible time, ends on a high?

Given the difference in comments I think it would be really cool to see you react to something with charismatic voice. Different places and different focus makes a good reaction I think. You also caught my favorite typically missed thing, where Geoff slides up
