Reaction and commentary to The Little Mermaid Medley sung and performed by VoicePlay, and all male a cappella group featuring (feat. Rachel Potter). This Little Mermaid Medley personally took me back to my musical theatre days and I loved every second of the music video!
The arrangement, costumes, makeup, and effects were well thought out and altogether made you feel like you were watching an actual Broadway production. In my commentary I touch on the costumes, special effects and visual effects that helped make this music video come to life.
I can't imagine any other a cappella group executing this medley better than VoicePlay.

Watching the interplay between Layne and Geoff is always hysterical. They've been since they were kids and Layne loves trying to crack Geoff up. He also does a great crazy chef in this medley. Making Geoff Ursula was brilliant. Geoff went all in on the part as he does in every song. J None does a great job with Under the Sea and Eli does a smooth baritone in Kiss the Girl here where he often uses his 'metal scream' voice in Hoist the Colours' and other songs. Rachel Potter has been asked to be a permanent member, but living in California, she declined. She's great with VP.

Rachel? A vocal percussionist??? I'm really interested in listening to her skill! It's unfortunate that she declined their offer, but life takes us in many directions.

They are now at a place where they can pick out the right one for the job. Cesar was a great choice, I hope he stays around for a long time, he fits the group so well and pulls more than his own weight. For the last permanent member I would wish for a female, but we'll see. They have been doing so amazing with guests lately (Rachel and Ashley stand out), maybe that's what we'll be seeing. They get better everytime, so I really can't complain ❤ Side note: If J None or Earl decided to come back, no complaints from me 🥰

Another one in similar vein is Moana, that one without J.None but with Earl Elkins. Another brilliant Disney medley. I'm sure you'll love that one too. Like you I love their theatricality as well as their voices. Not sure if you've seen Queen in 5 Minutes but that's also very dramatic. Another dramatic song but far from this light style is Hoist The Colours. It blew me away first time, and still does.

I’ve always loved this movie and the guys (and Rachel) did a wonderful job with it. Over on The Charismatic Voice’s channel, she has a fairly long interview with Layne about producing this video. He shows some insights into the audio editing software he used and talks about some of the sound effects he produced. In addition to Moana, I would strongly suggest their Queen in 5 Minutes. Eli did a deep dive into mythology, and he and Layne told an original story through Queen’s songs. (It was also an opportunity for Eli to show his rock tendencies, while still featuring everyone else’s strengths.)

Lol your reaction to Rachel’s voice when it was being taken from her was priceless. In the BTS video she was saying she played Ariel at Disneyworld for 5 years so she knew the songs forwards and backwards! Layne’s sound effects are 2nd to none in my opinion. He comes up with the most interesting sounds. Loved your reaction to this! 💜

Someone recently did a VP reaction and faulted Layne for not always sounding exactly like a drum. I was stunned. Another person tied up in rules, rather than in art and creativity.

@@Aurora-cv5to that drives me nuts when people are stuck in a box and are not willing to venture out of it! You miss a lot when you do that. Layne is so talented and in many ways underrated for his talent. He and Geoff are my favorites in the group all though I love Eli’s voice as well. I am still getting used to Cesar. But he is very talented as well.

@@StephanieGraham0129 Couldn't agree more. I'll put my money on talent and creativity over imitation any day of the week. The drum imitations are cool.... but to me, they're interesting not INTERESTING. It's Layne's other sounds... plus his choices of rhythms, and ability to support musical phrases ... that makes me a huge fan. He's not just a drummer, he's a musician.

VOICEPLAY is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented. i love everything they do, for example "panic in the disco", "billie ellish in 3 minutes", "blue sky", "eleanor rigby" and many more. They are not boring and they make me want to listen to them than more once Btw, coz of VOICEPLAY, new subscriber from Martinique and sorry for the bad english. We speak french in Martinique

@@JeffreyHackReacts Their Panic! In 4 Minutes is a sequel to Trapped: Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes, so it would be best if you watched that one first. Also, Panic! comes in 2 parts which you will probably want to do together since they are just under 4 minutes combined: 2:40 for part 1 + 1:40 for part 2. Geoff and Earl did a cover of P!ATD's Death of a Bachelor as well.

Great reaction. I’m realizing that Layne is a quiet genius. He does so many of the arrangements, and there he is, while the vocalists are being featured, laying down that incredible rhythm and all those bubbles and whistles and even playing instruments when they’re called for. Plus he’s kind of the cast goofball-if there’s a quirky, oddball bit, he’s often the guy who does it. We all go on about Geoff’s incredible range and Eli’s ability to color his voice to fit a pretty wide range of characters (the warmth in his tone here compared to the wicked grit in his voice in Hoist the Colours) and OMG J.None and now Cesar. Layne gets mentioned but maybe we need to pay more attention to him because he’s there laying down that support underneath all of them.

This is so wonderful. The total movie encapsulated. What harmonies and what fun. You might not know that Rachel Potter once worked at Disney World as what Disney calls “a friend of Ariel” so she knows this character. I love all solo parts as well. For me, Geoff’s vocal range on this is so amazing. Thanks for your reaction

Musical theater has always been my thing, and Voiceplay is my favorite acapella group partially because of that aspect of their performance. The talent and artistry that they display is phenomenal! Highly recommend "Go the Distance", "Warriors", "Queen in 5 Minutes", and "Can't Help Falling in Love". Love watching your reactions - I can see the joy!

I'm so happy that' you've watched the Little Mermaid Medley! When this song first came out I was super amazed by it. They put so much time and effort into this medley, and it definitely paid off! The visual effects were so great, and it definitely feels like you get to experience the whole movie in just under 8 minutes. But boy would that have taken some time to put together. On the Charismatic Voice reaction channel, Elisabeth interviewed Layne (the vocal percussionist) who arranged this song and directed/edited the video, and she asked him lots of questions about the creation of the song/video. He even ended up opening the file in his editing software and sharing parts of it and man were there a lot of layers of tracks. You should check it out some time. She has also interviewed Geoff! I too love the theatrical side of VoicePlay, and if you're really into musical theatre then you should keep an eye out as VoicePlay are dropping a new medley soon!! Have a great day!!

Have you ever checked out Voctave? I checked your previous reactions and I didn't see any but could have missed it. I think you would enjoy it. They don't use a beatboxer but Jamey Ray who started the group and does the arrangements makes the layers such that it isn't needed. I would start with the Disney Love Medley ft Kirstin from PTX, a newer video with You Will Be Found or Someone Like You from Jekyll and Hyde ft Jody McBrayer (who used to sing in Avalon). Also with Christmas coming Mary Did you know ft Mark Lowry (the writer of the lyrics) and O Come All ye faithful are superb! also my son loves Voiceplay and replays the Moana Medley and this Medley all the time!

2:20 "Geoff was waiting for his moment,".....You have know idea😁🤣 As for why i prefer Voiceplay a capella over others...it's simple their musical chemistry, as you said. They put their own spin on a song that pays homage to the original without simply doing an oo and aah version of the song.

"Bass play the bass" - and Geoff promptly does the "air guitar" along the voice bass. And sorry, extending his range to mezzo soprano would be too much.
